Honestly, I feel like we really need to start addressing the treatment of Rahim (and to some degrees, Vahim) by white love Victor fans. The second season hasn’t even been out for a MONTH and it’s become so overwhelming to deal with the microagressive or blatantly ignorant comments towards him by the white members of the fanbase. Which is even more upsetting because this is a fandom for a show about a family of color + a mostly PoC cast.

Rahim/Vahim fans aren’t upset because their ship won’t be canon, but the way that white venji fans are going about invalidating the ship and Rahim’s character is borderline racist and we need to address it. It’s completely fine to not like the character, the ship, or even prefer him and Victor to be friends, but there’s a lot of reasons why PoC fans are exciting for the character and the relationship.

It’s so rare to see an interracial queer couple between two people of color. “Interracial couple” are almost always depicted as being white/(often light skinned)PoC, and the person of color is often never seen as the main character but as a love interest, underdeveloped, etc. Not that all of these characters fit that description, but think of popular interracial queer couples on tv: Rue/Jules, Nico/Karolina, Alec/Magnus, Eric/Adam, Santana/Britney. They fit this portrayal, and while we adore these couples and their characters it’s so invalidating to never see QPOC couples. Seeing White Venji fans try to claim that it’s more important to see an white/poc interracial couple than a QPOC couple is so ignorant.

There’s a reason why Rahim points out the lack of awareness that Benji gives to his and Victor’s relationship. It’s not to “drive a wedge” like white fans are claiming he is doing (which is portraying a person of color as antagonistic), but to illustrate that benji is both racially and economically privileged compared to Victor, and his failure to realize that is dismissive of Victor’s dilemma with his mother. In fact, there’s a whole scene where Benji “apologizes” to Victor for not giving his mother a benefit of a doubt for improving, then immediately continues that behavior until Victor calls him out for it. Benji isn’t a bad person, but his lack of willingness to recognize his privilege and see Victor is very reflective of the struggles QPOC experience in white spaces/relationships.

Love Victor is an unapologetic queer person of color story, and QPOC deserve to see theirselves in Victor, Rahim, and the relationship. And if Vahim doesn’t become canon that’s completely fine, but there shouldn’t be so much casual racism simply bc Rahim “threatens” your white favs position.

Can some Marvel Comic fans stop acting shitty to others?

Yes, it sucks that not every character/storyline is going to be the handled perfectly in the MCU (or may even be completely erased), but that really doesn’t give any reasons to be awful to fans if those versions. How about introducing them to your favorite versions of them? There’s so many ways to handle the situation better. And not only that, not all writers have handled those characters well either in the comics!

And finally, stop making/creating hysteria over changes that won’t happen. KF literally called Ms. Marvel a “Muslim palastinian teenager”, so it’s obviously that shes not going to get whitewashed.

And I don’t want to see “straightwashing” jokes about Billy or Teddy either. That’s unrealistic and honestly really shitty to make jokes about something that would actually hurt lgbt fans who’s only experience w/ marvel is through the MCU.

It’s so obvious how misinformed this post is, OP. For starters, why are people now “nitpicking” SwSH ONLY BECAUSE of the lack of a national dex? If the national dex wasn’t a issue, people would have let all these “nitpicks” slide. What’s the point of saying that you expect more for what you’re paying, but are willing to ignore these “flaws” bc at the end of the game, you got what you wanted???

You also realize that Pokémon isn’t just the game, right? There’s the TCG, Anime, Merchandise, etc. ITS IMPOSSIBLE for the game to get delayed bc it will negatively affect all the other components.

Also, there’s also the problem that GF by itself is a small studio. Should they have hired more staff? ABSOLUTELY, but you also have to consider the Nintendo screws them over. NINTENDO are the ones that force GF to release titles almost every year, which obviously affects the quality of such games. We have had a Pokémon main series game EVERY YEAR SINCE 2016.

Predictably, people are throwing around the word “entitled” when it comes to video games again, and the Pokemon fandom was already notorious for telling people to “shut up and be grateful for what you have”.

NO.

It isn’t “entitled” to expect quality for the MONEY YOU ARE SPENDING ON A PRODUCT. It isn’t entitled to expect a product creator to keep up their end of a transaction. Sword and Shield are actually going to cost more money for less content. Players are expected to spend $60 on the game, then pay an extra recurring fee to use the online functionality, which has always been free in past games, and then you are expected to pay recurring for Pokemon Home on top of that if you want to get your Pokemon off of the 3DS before it dies. From Home, the Pokemon have nowhere to go, as the trip from 3DS to Home is one way. You must then keep paying for Home and hope that in the next 2-4 years, the rest of your collection is able to be transferred to the next games. Due to the new GF policy of scrubbing the Pokemon data for each game going forward, that is not promised. Your collection will get splintered across several generations, with Home being the only app where they are confirmed to be all in one place, and the cost is recurring. There is no promise that Sword and Shield have to be compatible with Gen 4 remakes or whatever comes next, so hoarding parts of your collection on a cartridge and hoping for trading to save you isn’t even necessarily viable. And even in the trading scenario, you have to still pay for the Switch Online subscription, so you’re being charged extra either way.

Meanwhile, at E-FUCKING-3, we have been shown pivoting models, like back in Gen 6 on the 3DS. We have been shown that the older Pokemon models were all imported from 3DS and still have their same animations. We have been shown that there are still generic attack animations. We have been shown models popping into existence, some with massive lag. We have been shown lighting errors on terrain and trees. WE HAVE BEEN SHOWN WINGULLS T-POSING, PIVOTING, AND SLIDING ACROSS THE MAP. I AM NOT PAYING $60 FOR THAT. If they couldn’t handle it, they should have delayed the game to make it better, or reduced the price to match what they were able to produce. And if Nintendo was pressuring them into a release this year, then this is their fault, too. There is no excuse for the mess that was shown, and then having the Dex get cut just to even reach that quality. DELAY THIS GAME.
