ao3 emails are the best emails to receive bc it’s either a comment or kudos on my work, a comment in reply to something i said on someone else’s work, or a new chapter/fic from a writer i’m subscribed to. you can never go wrong with an ao3 email. bless.

Do you ever just ?

This is a controversial take that everyone will hate but it's one thing to feed your kid better, more wholesome food than twinkies and hot pockets daily, it's another thing to force them to adhere to a crunchy granola beige colored diet where they cant share the snacks their peers are eating or have a normal childhood or have fun. None of you were raised like that and if you were you know what im talking about.

you know what you shouldnt do? constantly tell your child how expensive they are to take care of. because eventually, that child gets scared of asking for money, and doesnt feed themself at school, doesnt go places with their friends that require money, because she doesnt want to be expensive. it really does get into their minds, that theyre too much money and that they shouldnt do anything.

dude if your reaction upon seeing that the states with some of the worst literacy, poverty, healthcare and quality of life are overwhelmingly red and states on the opposite side of the spectrum are blue is “LOL loser republican state” I think. well i think a lot of things about you as a person and none of them are good.

Someone got defensive today because I called Adventure Time a children’s cartoon. I assume there must be some confusion, so I want to walk you through these facts to make sure everything is clear.

Adventure Time is a children’s cartoon.

My Little Pony is a children’s cartoon.

Steven Universe is a children’s cartoon.

Regular Show is a children’s cartoon.

Over the Garden Wall is a children’s cartoon.

There is nothing wrong with these indisputable, undeniable facts about these shows. The fact you are watching a children’s cartoon as an adult is not a reflection on your character and maturity level; your unbearable defensiveness and asinine denial of reality is far more telling.

Hey, friends with poor memory. This is a sign to go ahead and learn anything you want, even if you're afraid you're going to forget it all. Read Wikipedia articles, watch documentaries, take free classes, and delve deep into books and lore. Maybe I'm the only one who has this fear, maybe not. But learning for pleasure is just as much--if not moreso-- about the joy of the experience as it is about memorization.

it’s so important for your health to regularly interact with people at least a decade older than you who aren’t family, especially as a young person.

When my 45 year old teammate gives me advice on mental health and I know she understands because she’s had a tough adult life.

When my 32 year old friend tells me his life started improving for the first time the year she turned 30.

When the 60 year old man at the soup kitchen gives me permission to grieve by telling me I’m ‘just a baby’ with only gentleness in his voice.

It’s so much easier to abandon and break out from the cultural idealisation of youth when you surround yourself with wonderful people in all stages of their lives.

if you're worried about the new ToS for AO3, please remember that you are primed to distrust because of the way politics are intertwining with the internet right now. remember to look into definitions yourself, fact check, and look through the logic lense before jumping to conclusions.

AFAIK right now, the update clarifies terms that have already existed. it's not changing as much as it is clarity-rewriting. i'm still looking through the legalese (law student, i'm learning as I go) and I will be checking in again later, but don't despair.

however, don't get lax. download fics, connect with the authors, build out your communities. comment and bookmark and save, and please don't stop writing.
