I'm trying so hard to paint but I really just cant wrap my head around the whole workflow.

Painting is scary because it doesn’t really have an obvious starting point and there are a million ways to go about it. But the way I go about it is Sketch > Block in > Refine. Nick Wilde will demonstrate:

Sketch

Block in color/forms

Refine

And this is just how I do it, there are so many other ways, and I encourage you to experiment. But you can’t go wrong with Sketch > Block in > Refine. It all comes down to your study of form, light, and color, and enforcing it through practice. 

This is simplified to the point of absurdity, I know… but hopefully it’s a good enough starting point?
