im so exhausted by the beauty discourse in the asoiaf fandom bc beauty is entirely subject. like more so than your average discourse bc even within the text, problematic as it may be, beauty is presented as being in the eye of the beholder. ie: many characters recall how lyanna was “beautiful” and “of surpassing loveliness” but others say she was “boyish” and that she had a “wild beauty”. was she more beautiful than cersei? or catelyn? or elia? you’d get very different opinions based on who you asked. some clearly think not conforming to gender roles makes one less attractive but for others its appealing. some prefer blondes. because perspective matters. esp in this series bc its so driven by pov. furthermore ones opinion can change over time. ie: jon isnt impressed with ygritte’s looks to start but as they fall in love he begins to see her as being beautiful. ie: cersei has a reputation as a great beauty but she was hardly received as such during the walk of shame - childbirth and age have changed her body. (+ a great deal of “beauty” is frequently in the materialistic aspects such as expensive clothes that only highborn women can obtain hence the classism inherent in this concept of “beauty”) but the ideal of a “classical”/”traditional” beauty that everyone is fixated on is rooted in misogyny and racism, ableism, classism, ect. so i dont get the obsession. other than its obvious that most of this fandom subscribes to the notion that a woman meeting the extremely narrow (and fleeting) standards of “classical beauty” (as per our eurocentric patriarchy) makes her superior. but its is misogynistic bullshit that, regardless of what the books contain, we do not need to endorse. ultimately, as readers, the characters we’re most drawn to and find the most beautiful is going to vary from reader to reader. there wouldnt be any need for discourse if people would just accept that rather than fighting for their own ideal as a universal truth

I got frustrated with my drawing style, and felt like I could produce something much better than what I had been sharing lately. So I changed it up a bit!

can you give an idea of what outfits arya would wear in a modern au?

Ooh.... I think she’d be pretty casual: jeans, tees, hoodies, leggings, sneakers, etc. I’d say growing up in a society less strict about gendered clothing would make her feel less forced into traditionally feminine clothes, so I can see her wearing skirts and dresses and heels for sure - but I feel like on a day-to-day basis she’d be more inclined to stuff that’s practical and comfortable for her! And she would definitely steal Gendry’s sweaters :)
