there's an extremely niche plot in romance fiction wherein our invariably heterosexual leads fall in love after a night of passion leads to an unplanned pregnancy and they're now bound together by an impending child. I cast no judgment on anyone who enjoys this, but since I'm an evil gay and this is my personal nightmare scenario I want to see a zany romance novel premised on the opposite resolution: a couple falls in love while on a whirlwind roadtrip to obtain a legal abortion

Now that gift season is approaching, here's a reminder that local independent bookshops in many countries are organized in websites so you can order whatever book you want and have it delivered. Like Amazon but instead of your money going to a billionaire who mistreats the workers and lobbies politicians to get away with more human right abuses, the money goes to local bookshops. So even if you didn't find what you wanted in your local bookshop (though it's always still worth checking out and the shop keeper will be able to recommend you an alternative!), you can order from a wider range and not contribute to making Amazon a monopoly.

Do not really know what to say. A year ago we were making posts about how Gaza was being bombed through Christmas- how the oldest Christian community was being bombed- how the birth place of Jesus was being destroyed and his people murdered. A year later, it is going to be Christmas again soon, and the bombings have not stopped. But the news, and the attention seems to have died down considerably. It feels terrible and scary.
