Michael doesn’t know how to deal with the mellow drama of musicals. He already struggles with the concept that these people are just busting into song and dance, but the high emotional drama makes his emotionally stunted ass uncomfortable and confused. So if you were to turn on a musical he’d normally just walk off or if he’s extra petty turn it off because he hates the singing and because he’s a fucking cat at heart. But imagine he’s in a situation where he can’t do that (ie injured) so he has to sit there uncomfortably while you either cry or yell at the songs and characters and he’s just there with resting war flashbacks as he’s forced to watch phantom of the paradise for the third time.
It’s even worse if the songs get stuck in his head.
