When I saw the Ehrencronas on the invite list for the banquet tonight, I knew I had a unique opportunity to send you a little note, so, here goes…

I was thinking about numbers today.

Ten digits in your phone number and I have memorized the position of each one of them. The ten numbers are kind of like the combination of letters that make up your name. They offer a direct association to you. I love you. So, just like I love your name, I love the numbers that represent how I am able to communicate with you.

I start to wonder about these numbers that represent us, and how particular they are. It’s not the same with letters, I don’t think. Would I still love you the same if the letters that represented you shifted? Would you still be you if your name was Rimon or Timon? Would one misplaced letter make you any less yourself? I don’t think so. But one digit misplaced and suddenly you aren’t you anymore. You’re someone else entirely. We know that well, don’t we?

If, once upon a time, you had remembered those last few digits, perhaps Henry would have known not to expect you for your study session. Or maybe you would have messaged an old woman somewhere who would offer to give you horse riding lessons so maybe you wouldn’t be such an easy target for time-traveling philosophers. Or perhaps you would contact someone who wouldn’t text you back at all, and then they would never get to know you. They wouldn’t get to hear your voice, know your kindness, or understand how miraculous it feels to make you smile.

But the numbers you typed that day were mine. I got to know those things. And I got to love them.

The stars aligned for us. They always do.

q: you’ve been open in your lyrics about depression and other struggles. how are you now? yg: i’m comfortable now and feeling good, but those sorts of negative emotions come and go. so it’s almost like cold weather. it may come back in a cycle over a year, year and a half. but when i hear people say that when they listen to my music, and feel comfort and are consoled by those lyrics that express these emotions, that makes me feel very good. it’s very encouraging. i think, for anybody, these emotions are not something that need to be hidden. they need to be discussed and expressed. whatever emotions that i may be feeling, i’m always ready to express them now, as i was before.

i love being in college and i love my roommate but bc of my past issues with food and me just being a picky eater in general sometimes i go a little overboard when getting food from the dining halls just because idk what i will actually want to eat when i finally sit down and i have trouble gauging my hunger (hence the food issues). sometimes when i go and get food with her she makes comments about what i grab to eat or will make a sound and raise her eyebrows while she looks at my tray and god that infuriates me especially because i have told her that i have had issues. like guys,, pls do not comment about what others are eating or how much food they have in front of them (regardless if it is a lot or barely any) bc you have no idea what that person is going through or if they already have an internal struggle going on. like some days it’s hard enough for me to go and put food on my plate i do not need any sort of comment or look from you bc that is like the biggest trigger for someone struggling with an eating disorder or just disordered eating in general. thank you for coming to my ted talk
