Re-Purpose
Inspired by the walls in the train station of Paris. The main form of transportation in Paris was the train. A country as old as French don’t have much carpark like Singapore do. Parking is the problem. Therefore there is always so many people in the train station.
In the stations, there are tons of advertisement plastered all over the wall. Torn and old poster being covered by new. I mix my textile with foiling and cracking to give the same affect. Throw some bit of sequins like random gum or stickers stuck on the wall. The end result was pretty but still messy in its way.

Soeur Simone entry was so beautiful and simple. The mix of colours and crack is very simple. irregular crack and space smooth area.
The second version of cracking. Cracking paint or elements mostly comes in white colour. For this textile, I mix purple and pink dyes to the cracking paint. It dried up faster, which I have to work faster. The purple dye becomes more of a grey tone purple, which I don't mind. It's dirtier looking thanks to the purple. Making the pink stand out more.

Inspired by French dessert cookies mainly macaroons. Macaroons have a hard shiny outer shell but a soft inner. I want to create a puff looking textile. I created flower cookies by using crochet methods.

Another version of pressed flowers. This pressed flower is sandwiched between two organza. Random placement and the lasting topstitching randomly to give a more organic feel.
That along was very flat therefore I add some feathers to give it more textures. Main inspiration came from falling flowers.

Crack on Crack
Old wall slowly cracking with time. Alexander Wang created an interesting textile but still making it clean. My version I created was more dirty and messy, I mixed cracking with pressed flower together.
Once the sample was semi-dry, I baked it to make it more yellowish and brownish. Crush the textile to form more crack lines.

Old rags
Old torn fabric with tonnes of stitches line and stitching flower pleats. With filter paper from teabags.
Embroidery ants all over as teabags attract teabags smell.

Irregular textures
Another development from the previous “Microscope textures” base on that idea, I create more textures by changing up my choice in yarns. Buying different kinds like super huge, thin, furry and different hand feel. I used weaving in state of sewing as it gives me control over the weave.
Did lousy tied weave, normal weave and loop weaving, mostly love the colours compared to the first samples.

The idea from the textile came from my love of drinking tea. Repurposing the used tea bags and stitch over it was inspired by teabag art. There are many forms of teabag art. Most of them are done by finely painting the image onto the used teabags. Some are mix with stitching which I find it interesting.
During the process, many teabags were used, dried in the sun then cut opened to remove the tea in their bags. Lastly, stitch dandelion patterns while sandwiching the teabags in between tulle.

Microscope textures
Inspired by Linden Gledhill’s microscope photos of Moth and Butterfly wings. The wonders of nature are that, if we look close enough, we could find hidden beauty. Bugs come in all shape and sizes, some are very pretty (example: Butterflies) but some are ugly and gross. Gledhill way of showing another side of bugs are incredible.
The original sample id created was a bit flat whereby I used only one kind of yarn. I develop it by using thick and thin yarns with the mix of scraps pieces of tulle. Stitching it by random, instead of stitching them in order. Just like Gledhill photos the wings are different in colours and textures.

Freshly pressed
The inspiration behind this textile manipulation came from a bouquet of flowers. Was drawn to baby's breath, I love the way they look. Like little fur balls.
After cutting the baby’s breath down to the size I wanted. The fresh flowers go through a process whereby they are cut and pressed for over weeks(2 weeks)  before they are used in this textile. Once they are dried, I embedded them in between fabrics. I wanted to preserve the beauty and embed into the fabric.

Manifesto
This blog post is base on my design process. It will show my extended research and further development of my original designs and thought process. Improving my textile samples as I go along.
I will combine the mix of old techniques and new techniques I discover then incorporate those textiles into garments pieces. Trying to make them all cohesive with concept and colour theme. Hoping to produce something that represents my style and approach.
