Would Shen Jius magical girl transformation look different than Shen Yuans? Since in PIDW, Bingge and Bingmei obviously look different with the main difference being that one is a magical girl and the other isn't.

So shouldn't shen jiu and shen yuan also have different designs if Shen Jiu ever gets to be a magical girl.

Basically, even though it's the same body, because of them being different souls. They'd have different magical girl designs.

Yes definitely! Technically in the "PIDW version" of this magical girl au, the original Shen Qingqiu doesn't get a magical girl form at all, which is one of the reasons Shang Qinghua is SO unprepared for Cucumber-bro's transformation, but let's play in this space ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

Okay, let's get into the lore here (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑ Hope you wanted a long ramble because thinking about Shen Jiu made me think about how some of the logistics of the world would work.

So the way I see it, the original PIDW!version of this show was meant to be a very cynical deconstruction of the magical girl tropes, breaking away from the ~win with the power of friendship~ foundation and create a very individualistic, stallion-style protagonist. Sure Bingge gets "love" but is it even really love, or just a shallow echo of it? can he ever truly be satisfied? no, even with all the "love" and "romance" he acquires in the show the finale makes it clear that it was all meaningless, which of course makes Shen Yuan lose his shit and die. This SVSSS!version is almost like genre conventions re-exerting control.

One of the core aspects of magical girls in this world is that they need to have a base level of ⋆.˚⟡ ࣪ ˖ trust, love and friendship!! ⋆.˚⟡ ࣪ ˖ for it to work. Someone may have the magical potential but if they aren't drawing from that core human capacity to form meaningful relationships then they won't be able to access their magic.

Shen Jiu very much had the magical potential to be a magic girl... however for very obvious fucking reason by the time he was in a place to be trained or use a real magical conduit his ability to trust other people or wholly give over his heart to someone is completely fractured. If he has the ability to transform at all, it would be very unstable and incapable of lasting for longer than a few seconds. He probably never even gets to see his costume. So he is *very* aware that he has significant magical power but that because of his past he can't access it properly.

In true Shen Jiu fashion, he then turns this around on Luo Binghe when he arrives -- this bright child, brimming with magical potential despite having a hard start to life! Shen Jiu has to stamp that out with prejudice... it's almost like an experiment, some sick affirmation, as if to figure out what the breaking point was for him. How much can a person endure before any potential is shattered? Was there a moment in his childhood that was his official point of no return? Except in the PIDW!version of the story Luo Binghe of course goes on to unlock his demonic heritage and is able to continue the story using his demonic transformation (*SQH voice* It's subverting audience expectations, bro, everyone loves a plot twist!!!)

(Note: this is why it is, technically, possible for demons to do a magical girl transformation, it's just significantly less common because of traditions, assumptions, and demon society not putting a value on forming close romantic/familial love in the way human society does. MBJ from the PIDW!version wouldn't be able to have a magical girl transformation because OBVIOUSLY he doesn't trust his shitty family or his treacherous spy. SVSSS!MBJ can because he may not trust his family, but he's learnt to implicitly trust and love Shang Qinghua. When SQH realises HOW EARLY ON MBJ is able to transform and what that means he needs to like. sit down for a minute. The flipside though, someone like Shen Jiu could never access a demonic transformation because it's too physically demanding and would destroy a human's body.)

That being said, if someone's ability to trust and love can be damaged it could also be healed! (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و So if we look at an AU of this AU, where Shen Jiu gets saved earlier, or gets Shen-Yuan'd, or whatever, then YES he could theoretically transform into a magical girl!

This outfit is intentionally a mix between Shen Yuan's transformation and LBH's blackened form (because Shen Jiu and Shen Yuan share the "SQQ base" and SY intentionally tries to play into the SQQ role, and because SJand LBH have some pretty obvious parallels). SY's design stays with diamond, to keep in line with SQQ, but his tend to be much broader, they have a softer, rounder shape; SJ's are much sharper in general, more needle like. SJ's form also brings in the red highlights in a way that SY's fails too. SY fights with a fan because to him that seems like the weapon SQQ *should* have, but the real SJ uses a fan only defensively, his weapon is the long ribbons on his costume that he uses like whips. Out of all the magical girls, he's the most completely covered, with very little skin showing -- to the point that his sleeves will even cover his hands. This would be seen as rather untrustworthy in general, since usually magical girl outfits show more, but SJ would NOT be able to tolerate being that exposed.

(Also you just KNOW that YQY's outfit has diamond cut-outs in it. Not because he has a diamond theme, he doesn't, but because he's so desperate to fit with SJ, to be completed and made whole by him, and do the same for him. Just this constant, sad echo of what's been cut out from him and what's missing 🫠)
