listen
not every spirit/deity/entity that enters your space or makes themselves known wants to work with you
some of them are just passing by
some of them just want to be there to vibe
some might be lost
some might just be curious about you or what you’re doing
communicate, ask if they want/need anything, don’t make assumptions

You can casually work with deities.
You don't have to devote yourself to one (or a few) deities, or any at all.
You can ask for help from a deity that fits the bill for what you need help with.
That's how plenty of pagans in the past did it.
You go to doctors who specialize in different things based on what you need. Need help with your nose? Go to and ENT. Need help with your lungs? Go to a Pulmonologist.
Need help with love? Go to Aphrodite. Need help with developing a new skill? Go to Lugh. Need some wisdom? Go to Frigg.
and the list goes on. Even if you already devote yourself or work with specifically one or a few deities, you can still ask deities for help if you need their specific area of expertise.

Honor, Worship, Work, and Devotion: My Perspective
So I wanted to readdress this topic again because I've been thinking about it a lot recently.
Previously, I defined the four as follows:
Honor: allow into your life, pay respects, don't actively pray to or ask for help in divination/magic workings Worship: same as honoring but with offerings/prayers/altars/the whole song & dance, don't actively include in divination/magic workings Work: same as worship but actively include in divination/magic workings Devotion: the most serious form of deity-mortal interaction, first/foremost, can be to one or several deities
I've also met and interacted with people who are oathbound to a deity (hi Lorelei!) but that doesn't play into my own religious practice, so I haven't included it here.
But even though I've separated them like this, that doesn't mean that it's cut and dry in reality. Various deities I worship or work with will step between the two as they feel necessary - for instance, in my previous answer, I said that I worshiped Aphrodite, but lately it's been more working with because of personal reasons. I believe my current personal breakdown would be:
Honoring: Loki, Sigyn, Angrboda, and their collective kids (who all share one altar, actually) Worship: Aine, Azura, Cernunnos, and Tehuti Work: Aphrodite Devotion: Athena
To me, devotion is a very serious matter, but that doesn't mean I haven't fucked it up. I accidentally devoted to Athena when I was young, and she's been my number one supporter while I fucked around and found out in both magical and mundane matters. That's why I often refer to her as "Mother Athena" or "Momma Athena".
Which is another thing I wanna talk about - I have a very family-oriented view of the world, so I often refer to deities as parents or other older relative figures. Cernunnos is Deer Dad; Tehuti is Uncle Tehuti; Aphrodite, Azura, and Athena are all some variation of Mom... It's my way of showing that I care deeply for them.
So...yeah. I don't have a snappy outro for this post, I just wanted to talk about the deities I care for and how I categorize things.

Isis - Worship and offerings guide
Despite the negative connotations currently associated with her name, Isis is a kind and wonderful goddess to come across.
As wife to Osiris, the king of the afterlife, she is known as a teacher and protector, often favoring women, single mothers, children, and those with a strong predilection to helping and protecting others.
She is also known to take on another form - Renenutet, a goddess of fertility and bountiful harvest. Renenutet takes the form of a cobra-headed woman, which is why snakes are considered a sacred symbol to Isis.
Other animals she is associated with are:
Cows
Scorpions
Crocodiles
Swallows
Kites (a bird of prey, like a hawk)
Setting up an altar
Isis is a new deity to me. She had previously come to me in the form of Renenutet, and only recently revealed herself to be Isis.
My altar, along with the basics of a candle and incense holder, features a cobra statuette that I made out of clay. I plan to get a representation of Isis in her "true" form soon, but the cobra will remain a permanent part of the altar.
You can add some non-food offerings to remain on the altar permanently, such as:
Crystals
Bloodstone
Moonstone
Howlite
Agate (tree agate, moss agate)
Jasper (picture jasper, mookaite jasper)
Quartz (clear quartz, rose quartz, amethyst, citrine)
Selenite
Other
Feathers (NOTE: Be EXTREMELY careful picking up feathers from outside if you live in the US. The Migratory Bird Treaty Act makes it illegal to possess feathers from certain birds. You can have them shipped from other countries, or you can just use chicken, duck or turkey feathers, she won't mind!)
Gold jewelry
Flowers
Food and drink
Milk
Honey
Bread
Grains (oats, rice, wheat)
Fresh fruits and vegetables
Spices (cinnamon, cloves, allspice)
You can also show dedication to Isis by performing acts of kindness.
Whether it be telling someone you like their shirt, or volunteering at a soup kitchen, any act of kindness will surely win you favor with Isis.
May your work with the netjeru be prosperous.
Blessed be! 🌛🌑🌜
