A Bad Day Turned Okay

“You said you were where?” You ask, whisking the eggs into a bowl, your phone being supported by your cheek as you look outside the window, waiting eagerly for the moment Hanji will pull up into the driveway.

“It’s a surprise!” They say, little do they know that you can hear the person on the other end of the drive-through, confirming your favorite order from your favorite restaurant. It does bring a smile to your lips but the exhaustion from your studies comes crashing over your shoulders and it quickly dissolves into a tight feeling in your chest.

“WE COULD GET MARRIED” (Z. HANGE)

part of L’s RED (TV) EVENT!

When Hange walks into your shared apartment, they audibly gasp at the scene before them.

You sit on the couch, head burrowed between a packet of papers, surrounded by stacks on stacks of files. Hange thinks your committing fraud until they see the slight frown on your face. If you were committing fraud, you’d be smiling—they were sure of it. 

“Oh no! Why so sad?” they coo, walking towards your paper fortress. They think of cracking a joke about how it looks like the Dursley’s house in Harry Potter, when the letters come pouring in through the chimney—but Hange is smart and knows to assess the situation beforehand, before further pissing you off. 

You feel their lips press a tiny kiss to your hairline, followed by one directly in the middle of your forehead. You relax into their subtle touch.

“Tryin’ to do my taxes, it always puts me in a bad mood though,” you grumble, a little less upset now that your lover is home and tending to you. 

“Why can’t we just file them together? That way, I’d pay for them,” you smirk at their nonchalant selflessness, as if you’d let them singlehandedly pay your taxes. Hange wraps their arms around you shoulders as they stand behind where you sit, squinting their eyes and attempting to read your files from over your shoulder. 

“We’d have to be married to do that.”

“We could get married.”

You slowly turn your head at the insane suggestion, meeting your lover’s eyes. They’re already boring into yours, a childish excitement hidden behind them.

“Are you serious?” you test.

“Deadly.”

Your impromptu staring contest has them studying you curiously, as the gears visibly turn within your head. Hange sees this as an opportunity to further convince you (as if you needed any further convincing). 

“We could!” they insist, gleefully. “It doesn’t need to be huge or anything, unless you want a huge reception. If not, we could just run down to the courthouse and have someone ordain us. Or we could elope. Oh my god, I can ask Levi to be my maid of honor. Imagine him in a dress-”

“Hange,” you interrupt their adorable yet overwhelming tangent. They stop dead in their tracks, eyes on you again—they’re nodding their head, as if they’re agreeing with their own thoughts. 

“You’d really marry be just for the purpose of taxes?” you mumble quietly, still a little shocked from the sudden serious turn in conversation. If this is what it took for the two of you to talk about marriage, you would have done your taxes ages ago. 

“Not just for the taxes, silly,” you feel the familiar kisses return to your forehead, “I’d marry you because I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

Hange takes the file from your hands and throws their whole body over yours as they get comfortable on the couch, now fully determined to understand the inner workings of the IRS, “The taxes are just a plus.”

NOTE: my first hange piece *starts sweating* something about domestic life w hange makes me lightheaded, they are so sweet i want to put them in my pocket and keep them forever. i hope u enjoy this!!!
