When they find him he’s on his side; arms tied behind his back, feet crossed at the ankle, bare and bound. His mouth, shut up by a gag made from a filthy rag, torn at the sides of his lips from being rubbed up against.

At his temple, along with the rest of what’s left of him, is bloodied; there is a gash at his forehead, fresh and old blood dried along the right side of his face. There are scratch marks that create three perfect lines along his already marred skin, making him look more and more animalistic; his body is covered in bruises but his eyes…his eye remain a decadent, cognac brown with swirls of rich honey and auburn.

Even beaten to a pulp, he’s feverishly handsome.

Soap is the first to move, taking two tentative steps forward and then bringing himself to kneels before Ghost’s slain form. When he leans down, taking a gloved hand to gently roll him on his side, Simon is all that remains.

The mask is gone, loitering somewhere in the heap of discarded uniform shreds; leaving Simon in Ghost’s fatigues, his tags lay next to him, catching the light whenever the hanging bulbs leans their way.

“Si?” Soap crocks, leaning down to press his ear to Simon’s chest, listening for a heartbeat that is nearly there, a heartbeat that skips on every other.

With the hallways cleared, Gaz is next to rush the cell; a startled gasp pulls Soap away from Simon’s chest, and looks over at his partner.

“He’s— he’s breathing.”

Kyle takes another discovery step forward, hoping to get a look at him for himself; chocolate brown eyes well with tears, a hand coming to his mouth as he too kneels before Simon.

“Oh Si….” Gaz coos, gently running his hand through Simon’s sweat-drenched curls, letting his thumb pet next to Simon’s eye, hoping to ease him awake, but it doesn’t work.

“We- we need to move, Price can only hold them off for so long and med evac is on its way.”

“Roger.”

The two sergeants make quick work of hoisting Simon up under his now free arms; they made quick work of untying his feet and throwing on the inside out socks previously ripped off him weeks earlier.

“Price, we got ‘im, headed to the check point now.” Simon softy groans now that he’s upright, eyebrows pinching with pain as he’s jostled through the now cleared enemy base and through a freshly snowed Norwegian countryside.

With the check point insight, the med crew taking Simon from them, loading his fragile body onto the stretcher and begin shouting off introductions.

As they approach, price stands off to the side, out of the medics way but close enough to get a look at his boy, his Simon.

“He’s…he’ll be alright , cap.” Kyle tries with an easy smile but Price isn’t fooled. He knows they are a long way away from Simon being “okay” but with his boys by his side…maybe their Si will be okay.

I LOVE WHEN PEOPLE PUT SIMON IN SITUATIONS!!!

Ghost who gets so much shit from his team bc he got caught eating some moldy bread once.

It wasnt like he ate the actual mold or anything, just ate around it. But according to price "thats the same shit, simon."

He knows its odd, so he puts up with all the comments. Deals with this just being another fact turned rumor about him around the base. There's not much else to do.

Its not like he could tell them the truth.

Because how would simon even do that? How would he explain the twist of anxiety whenever someone tosses scraps in the trash? Some ugly half-starved beast lives behind his ribcage, and thumps wildly against the bars whenever food is tossed out or plates aren't licked clean.

Its the same beast that grew inside him and Tommy. In a house with hardly any food, helping his mom count out the food budget in a handful of coins, scouring every newspaper and corner for extra coupons or pennies people tossed. Simon remembers watching his mom prepare meals, learned to help too when he was old enough to know not to touch the stove.

Milk was never just milk, it was always diluted with some water. You could stretch a gallon to three if you did it right. Scrambled Eggs took up more space when whisked with water. Simple ingredients were cherished. Nothing was ever thrown out, even scraps had their place in stew.

That beast inside simons chest watched it all, drank it in. The hunger pains at night, the food snuck from his plate onto Tommy's when his brother wasnt looking. It watched, and it grew.

Now, even years later, Ghost cant tame that beast. He shoulders the teasing, hides the shamed flush of his face behind his mask. Slowly, he recedes into his skin. Hiding during lunches and dinners, taking all his meals in his room. At least there no one comments when he licks his plate clean.

He wonders if gaz or soap miss him at lunch. If price asks where he is at dinner. But no one says anything when they see ghost throughout the day, so he doesnt think about it.

Hmmmmmm…

Simon: Well, I think his is the easiest to answer. The military gave him the strength to finally stand up to his father, so I don’t think he’d be in a great place without it. I imagine he probably would’ve stayed at the butcher’s shop. He’d eventually leave home, but he never would’ve kicked his dad out, so I don’t think his mum or Tommy would be in a very good place. And he regrets never helping them escape like he did.

Johnny: He also wouldn’t have gone very far from home, but for a completely different reason. He wanted to get into construction and demolitions, but his dad practically begged him to stay and help with the family carpentry business. His dad always says he needs him for just a few more months, and then he’ll hire someone to replace Johnny. He’s been saying that for 6 years now. He loves being around his family, don’t get him wrong, but it’s long since started to feel suffocating.

Roach: Honestly, I feel like he’d either work at Walmart or some other small grocery store in Appalachia. He’d be worn out and barely making ends meet, but not entirely miserable. He’d have a solid group of friends, but something would always be missing.

Gaz: With how charming and handsome he is, I’m sure Gaz would make it pretty high up in some corporate company. His mum got him an entry-level position, and now his only job is to find a completely spot in the company and stay there. It’s tedious work and he hates it, but he stays. If only so he doesn’t have to hear his parents tell him how disappointed they are.

Price: I think he’d run a tackle shop. I really don’t know why, but he just has that vibe, y’know? He’d be comfortable, but something in him would always crave a little more excitement.

Alex: He gives me big farm boy energy. He’d probably work on the family farm and eventually take over the reins from his dad. Again, not a very exciting life, but it would be a comfortable one.

Farah: Y’know… not really sure with our girl Farah. I think some part of her would always want to see Urzikstan free, so she’d probably still support the movement even if she wasn’t apart of it. It would be a less dangerous life, but definitely no less stressful and filled with heartbreak. Maybe she’d eventually move to London and start Uni to live a better life, but her heart would always be with her home and her family.

Simon: Honestly, it’s pretty boring, and he knows it, but nothing can calm Simon’s stomach quite like plain toast. He usually at least butters it, but sometimes even that feels greasy on his tongue. And on those days, completely plain toast is his go to.

Roach: He doesn’t have nearly as many issues with food as Simon, but even Roach has days where everything sounds horrible disgusting. Everything but a peanut butter and banana sandwich. It’s filling, has some of his favorite textures, and is just sweet enough that it’s comforting but not overwhelming.

Johnny: Simon calls him insane for it, but his top choice is always strawberries. Si protests that they’re too inconsistent, that you never know if they’ll be unripe or mushy or sour, but Johnny doesn’t care. Cut up strawberries were what his ma always made him when he was having a rough day, so they were his comfort food.

(And bonuses that you didn’t ask for 👀👀👀)

Alex: It’s so stereotypically American, and everyone makes fun of him for it, but he’ll always choose a good ol’ McDonalds cheeseburger. They’re pretty easy to get and they’re the same all across the world.

Gaz: Any chocolate pastry. As long as it’s the perfect balance of fluffy dough to creamy chocolate, he’s all over it.

Farah: She’s not even remotely picky when it comes to food, but on rough days the only thing she craves is grilled fish. She ate a lot of it is Urzikstan, and the nostalgia is really what comforts her.

Price: He really gets roasted for his choice, because of course it’s beans. What really gets everyone is when he eats them straight out of the can, completely cold.

Nik: He tells everyone it’s some horrible and strange Russian dish, but it’s actually mint chocolates. He always has them on him, and if he frequents a place, you can bet he has a package stashed somewhere in the building.
