Galaxy Defenders Stay Forever

When Tom Fletcher wrote the line “Galaxy Defenders Stay Forever” in the number one song Star Girl, he probably didn’t realise what a rare breed of fandom he and the rest of McFly would create. We can all speculate as to what he meant when writing that lyric; however, in this case alone, my definition of it means more to me than what he might have meant. 

When I was first discovering McFly in America, I was overcome by their electrifying beats, powerful guitar riffs, and meaningful lyrics. But to me, I was alone, in this one thing that I loved more than anything else. I was living the teenage anthem of ‘no one understands’. So I tried converting some friends and while most agreed that McFly have catchy tunes, they were nowhere near as hooked as I. It wasn’t until several years later in high school, that I met a few other Galaxy Defenders through a mutual friend of ours. That mutual friend will never know what it meant to me that she would introduce me to some of my best friends and finally help me to sing a new anthem “Not Alone” by our very own Danny Jones. 

So my new friends and I gushed and giggled about everything and anything McFly related and I was introduced to a new phenomenon, well at least new to me as a teenager: feeling apart of something. Because being a fan, means being there until the end and being a McFly fan means knowing that there is no end. We were in full swing of McFly mania as the boys taunted us with secrets of world tours and an amazing Supercity website. 

When the Super Site was released, fans from all over the world felt what I did- that we’re all apart of something huge and that we’re not alone. We are not alone in something that we are so passionate about: our love of these boys and their music. 

So as my sweet 16 rolled around, I invited my new McFly friends to a party before I left for the summer to live out my dream in England. They teamed together and gave me, honestly, the best birthday present I have ever received. Among other things, a bracelet with two charms: one with a guardian angel and my initials on it, another in curly script with the words “Galaxy Defenders Stay Forever”. I wore it everyday, because in a time of darkness and loneliness it served as a reminder that I will always be a part of something huge and that I will never be alone. 

That was then, when the term “Galaxy Defender” meant belonging to me. Now in my most stressful year of high school it’s brought on a whole new meaning. As I drowned under books and assignments and commitments there were so many times that I could not see a way out or see past this darkness. And admittedly there were so many times that I would have given anything to get out, and it was scary to catch myself thinking the things I was. But as I contemplated my desperation, that same bracelet glimmered and caught my eye. I re-read the curly script with a whole new view and found the light I had been begging for. “Galaxy Defenders Stay Forever” Because I so strongly believe that I am and always will be a Galaxy Defender, that phrase to me meant that I had to stay forever- and I don’t just mean in the fandom, I mean in life. It came to mean to me that I could not give up if I were a Galaxy Defender. So I powered on. And even though my hardest year of high school has just begun, every time I feel that life is too much and too overwhelming I just clutch the bracelet on my scarred wrist and remember that Galaxy Defenders Stay Forever. 

Now 2 years of recovery from my suicidal thoughts, I realize just how much McFly has saved my life. I wrote down a secret then that said “Waiting to see them in concert in America is one of the only reasons I haven’t killed myself yet.” It would mean so much to me to be able to meet my heroes, angels, and saviours and to thank them… for everything. 

That is why McFly should come to America.

On the internet you could literally speak english better than any british/american person while on the outernet, you can barely form a sentence without messing up the prononciation, the conjugation of verbs, or not finding the words. Am I the only one?

The Real-Life Fanfiction Library Project: I’m Starting it! Here’s a guide for those who want to be involved!

I’ve posted before that I wanted to make a real-life fan fiction library and I think by the response, I can see that a lot of you want to as well! I’ve been planning and planning and I think, with time and effort, we can see this coming to a reality. 

I will go to the lengths of flying over to Tumblr HQ myself and asking them to cooperate to make this come true.

I am estimating a good 2 years of business planning and funding in order to make this thing actually legit and working and REAL. 

Here are ways you can get involved (you don’t HAVE to do them - it’s just a rec) :

1. Answering a 3-question-survey. Takes 3 seconds and it is a tremendous help.

 fan fiction editors (looking over grammatical mistakes and also putting together the format) / requirements: must be fluent in English or any other language you will be editing  

Cover Artists (for book covers) / requirements: must know how to use photoshop or any other editing software 

Publicising Assistants (for making the project well-known)  / must have more than 500+ followers on tumblr or any other social media! 

In order to be a very active part of this, take part in establishing this! I will be taking no more than two partners per country. I am more than willing to take as many partners as possible from all around the world. It’s not a lot of work but certainly a good work. You will be credited for your contribution accordingly!
