Deidara kicked his feet lazily from the windowsill of Asa’s living room, humming a little tune when the man standing in front of him finally noticed him. Would Deidara ever outgrow the disappearing-for-several-months thing? Probably not, though Asa could only hope.

It is a masterpiece, he thinks. The sculpture in his hand is long rather than tall, a centipede with each of its hundred legs perfectly shaped for scuttling. It looks like the ones that used to inhabit the dark spaces of Deidara’s home as a child, the ones that would scurry away when the light came on and would bite his little fingers when he held them.

Each of its segments is separately explosive; it’s Deidara’s personal favorite Somb, capable of raining death in a hundred thousand ways.

( that’s an exaggeration, and Sasori tells him so. he responds by hiding away Sasori’s tools. some would call this childish, but it is certainly capable of drawing irritation across his normally stoic partner’s frozen features. )

Activated, the sculpture grows to more than a meter long and moves as easily as a living bug. Now, though, it is simple clay molded into a shape. He considers using it to relieve some boredom. Perhapos he can send it out to torment Hidan or menace a nearby community.

He doesn’t have a chance to decide before Sasori is calling his name in an aggravated tone. 

It’s time to go, it says, we have people to menace and a job to do.
