Buck hadn’t thought much of it. Just a headache. Popped some Tylenol, kept moving.

Only it didn’t improve. He struggled to concentrate, throbbing pressure steadily building until it felt unbearable.

On their drive back from a call, Buck leaned against Eddie. Forced a laugh when Chim teased him for drooling on Eddie’s shoulder.

“Yeah, stayed up too late last night,” he lied.

Buck shielded his eyes as he staggered out of the truck, everything painfully bright. His stomach rolled, so he bypassed dinner and curled up in his bunk.

The mattress dipped.

“Buck,” Eddie said softly.

“M’fine.”

“Bullshit, baby.” Eddie’s hand rubbed a soothing trail down his back. Buck sniffled, relaxing. “You don’t need to pretend with me.”
