hello all :3 myself and my friend dante (@kyeomic) have befriended families in gaza that mean quite a lot to us. our friends are struggling, my friend is a widow with four young children and dante's friends have two little ones as well. to be blunt, our friends are starving to death. there is very little food available in the entirety of the gaza strip and what there is left to buy is very expensive. one kilo of flour costs $40 usd and does nothing to feed a family of any size. my friend has resorted to feeding her kids dry chickpeas. these are mothers who run the risk of their children dying, who have no access to aid because their husbands have been killed or will be killed if they send them to seek american aid out. these are real families, in real need.
in hopes of helping our friends, i have just placed an order for all kinds of new keychain designs through my manufacturer. i am expecting them in the next 3 weeks and they are currently available through my ko-fi for preorder; they will be shipped as soon as they are in hand. every dime of profit will be split between these two families, and you have the opportunity to acquire some cute merch while also helping struggling people to put food in their bellies <3 i am based within the united states but i do ship internationally!
varieties include: seventeen, aespa, stray kids, enhypen, nct, xlov, katseye, twice, bts, ateez, and txt ♡ if you are unable to support a reblog goes a long way!

The heat is coming down hard when you park at the new cafe you’ve been meaning to try. You wipe at your forehead and quickly make your way inside. Air conditioning envelopes you the second you walk in and you welcome it with open arms. The atmosphere is cozy and the decorations are fun and adorable. Nothing over the top but just enough to feel inviting.
It’s packed to the brim with people and almost all of the tables were taken. You look at the menu as you wait in line and then after about fifteen minutes you finally get to order. After the barista puts your drink in you try to spot an open seat to wait.
You spot a table with a couple open seats. Someone sits there with their back facing you, hood pulled over their head. A few seconds of contemplation later, you carefully maneuver your way over.
“Sorry to bother but do you mind if I sit here while I wait for my order?”
Your heart skips a beat when the stranger looks up to meet your eyes. His dark black hair falls just above the rim of his glasses, eyes curious yet cautious as he looks you over. He then reaches up to remove his earphones and you realize he didn’t hear so you ask him again.
“Mind if I sit while I wait?” You point to the chair.
“Not at all.” He sends you a small smile then puts his earphones back in.
You thank him and then scroll through your phone until your order is called. Thanking the man again, you get your drink and then leave to go back home.
-
The next day you find yourself coming back and it is just as packed, if not even more. Only out of curiosity do you glance over at the table you sat at yesterday. To your surprise you see the same man sitting there, hood up just the same too. You take the risk and walk up to his table again after ordering the same drink as yesterday.
“Hi,” the man looks up from his notebook with a surprised look on his face, “can I sit here again?”
“Of course,” he looks out the window then back at you, “what did you order?”
You’re surprised by the question but perk up at the fact that you don’t have to sit here awkwardly while you wait.
“I got the cinnamon chai. What about you?”
“Iced americano. Are the chai’s good? I’ve been wanting to try and branch out of my basic order.”
You smile,” I think they are! The subtle spice keeps me coming back.”
He hums in response then begins writing something in the notebook laid out in front of him. You glance down at it to see a bunch of different work out plans scribbled down. When you look back up you take the opportunity to really look at him.
You could tell just by looking at his back earlier that he worked out. His hoodie doing little to hide the way his biceps bugle against the fabric. You look out the window before he could catch you staring and then you hear your order being called in the mix of a few others and stand up.
“Thanks for letting me sit with you again. Sorry that I keep disrupting.”
“You aren’t and I don’t mind.” He smiles up at you.
-
All of last night, you couldn’t stop thinking about the man at the coffee shop. How kind he was to you even though you for sure were bothering him. His curly hair was always a little messy but in a cute way. Even his voice caught you by surprise by how velvety and deep it is.
You weren’t able to go back for the next couple of days and when you do eventually find yourself walking through the tall doors, your eyes immediately go to the left corner. To your disappointment the table is empty. So, after you get your order you leave.
-
Your head is pounding as you walk into the cafe a few days later. Nothing sounded better than a hot chai so that’s exactly what you ordered. Since the weather is a lot cooler today you needed to warm up a bit.
It’s busy as always so you look for a certain table and hide the smile that tries to shine when you see him sitting there in his usual hoodie. Before you could even say anything he looks over his shoulder, a sparkle in his eyes as they meet yours that nearly makes you trip over yourself. Suddenly your headache is nowhere to be seen.
“Need a place to sit?” He smirks up at you.
“Only if you don’t mind?”
“Course not.”
Instead of sitting adjacent to him like you usually would, you decide to be a little bold and sit across from him. When you sit down you notice an iced chai placed in front of him. The condensation dripping down the sides makes you think he has been here for a while.
“What did you get this time?” You ask, gesturing to the half empty drink.
“The cinnamon chai. It took me a minute to get used to the flavor but I am really enjoying it.”
The excitement on your face says it all, “I’m glad I could help expand your flavor palate.”
He laughs then takes a sip of his drink, not once breaking eye contact. You look out the window to try and calm your racing heart and see giant rain clouds looming over the area. A few seconds later it starts pouring rain and lightning strikes not too far. The thunder booms soon after, making you jump a little.
“You okay?” The man asks, eyebrow slightly furrowed.
You nod your head and then look to the pick up counter as your order is called, “just wasn’t expecting it. I wish I had brought my umbrella.”
“Here,” he reaches down a little and pulls out an umbrella, “use mine. I have an extra one in my car.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah don’t worry about it.” He smiles at you as he passes the umbrella to you.
“How will I get this back to you?” You ask after standing up.
He turns slightly in his seat, resting his elbow casually on the back of his chair, a playful smile etched onto his face, “guess you’ll have to come back tomorrow.” His confidence leaves you startled and you can tell he is enjoying how flustered you are getting.
“I guess I will.” Your voice is a little shaky so you clear your throat, "I'm Y/N by the way. I don't think we have formally introduced ourselves.
He stands up and extends his arm out, leaving his hand open for you to shake. You're not surprised by the rough feeling of callouses but you are surprised by how gentle his grip is.
“Changbin.” His smile is so effortless it makes butterflies erupt in your stomach.
-
The rain is even worse the next day and you once again forgot your own umbrella. You are so grateful for Changbins’ umbrella that is sitting on your passenger's seat as you pull up to the cafe. Quickly you make your way inside, shaking the umbrella and closing it before passing through the doors.
Changbin is at your usual table and heat rushes up your neck when you see two drinks in front of him. Just from the color alone you know it’s your usual and it makes you like him more than you already do. It’s crazy to you how fast you have caught feelings when it’s only your fourth time being around him. Something about how kind and easy going he is pulls you to want to learn more and more.
“You didn’t have to get me a drink.” You voice when pulling out your chair and sitting across from him.
“I didn’t, this one is also for me.” The glint in his eyes tells you he’s kidding but you decide to play along.
“Oh, and here I thought you were trying to woo me.”
Changbin lights up at the implication,” would it be wrong if I was?”
“No.” You take a sip of your drink to try and hide your smile.
The both of you chatted for what felt like hours. Talking about the small things at first and eventually getting into the deeper things. Changbin never pushed too far if you didn’t feel like sharing and vice versa. It had been a while since you were able to be so open with someone and it felt good.
You learn that he is a personal trainer and does music producing on the side for fun. He has a few close friends that he hangs out with often and he is really close to his family, which you really liked. In your past relationship, your partner always talked badly about their friends and family just because, which never sat right with you.
Changbin tells you about his past relationship briefly. He fell first and fell harder but she just strung him along until she found someone else. Since then he has been trying to better himself and focus on finding someone who wants the same things as him.
“What kind of things would that be? You know, for research purposes.”
Changbin huffs out a laugh, “someone who is kind and honest, respectful towards others and definitely has a good sense of humor. Someone to help me expand my drink palate wouldn’t hurt either.”
Your stomach flutters.
“What about you? What do you look for?” He throws the question right back at you.
“I don’t like my time being wasted so knowing what you want is pretty important. Someone who doesn’t take themselves too seriously, but knows when to tone it down and is able to have serious conversations. I also want someone who is honest. I’ve had my fair share of liars and I don’t tolerate those kinds of people anymore.”
Changbin listens intently, nodding his head along with everything you’re saying. He can’t help but get a little excited over the similarities between the both of you. You are definitely his type and hearing what you are looking for just solidifies to him that he wants to get to know you better.
“Stop me if I am reading things wrong,” Changbin takes a breath before asking, “but, would you maybe want to go out sometime? You know, outside of this cafe.”
“I’d really like that actually.” You confess way too quickly.
By the time you are getting ready to leave you exchange numbers. The rain is still coming down heavily so Changbin tells you not to worry about giving his umbrella back and opens the door for you when you both exit. He gently takes the umbrella from your hand, holding it above your head for you as he walks you to your car.
“Thank you for the drink and walking me to my car. You didn’t have to do that.” You smile at him while taking the umbrella back.
“Of course and no need to thank me. I wanted to. I’ll see you on Sunday then?”
You nod, “yeah. Now hurry and go back inside before you get soaked!”
Changbin laughs and you wave goodbye after getting into your car. You wait until he dips back into the cafe to finally make your way out of the parking lot and back home, your stomach fluttering the entire drive.
-
The weather is finally clearing up and you are almost to the bowling alley you and Changbin had agreed to meet at. The two of you had been texting non stop since you last saw him and your heart felt so full. You’ve never had such an easy time getting to know someone. The conversations flow so easily and a few days ago he suggested taking you out for a first date.
Of course you couldn’t say no and when you were throwing date ideas back and forth, you decided that bowling could be really fun. Which leads you to where you are now. Your heart beats out of your chest when you see Changbin leaning against his car, waiting for you. He looks up from his phone when you park across from him and he instantly has a smile on his face.
“Hey! You look really pretty.” He states.
“What? Shut up.” You lightly hit his bicep and look down as you feel heat rushing up your neck.
He looks you up and down with a soft smile, “I never say something I don’t mean. Come on, let's go inside.”
You follow him into the building and are immediately met with loud noises and the smell of food. Changbin pays for a lane and you both get your shoes and bowling balls before walking over to it. You watch as he is about to put your names but then he turns towards you.
“Do you want to go first?”
“Oh no, you should probably go first. I wouldn't want to intimidate you with my skills.” You tease.
Changbin's eyes light up and he lets out a small laugh. He turns back to the little tablet to put your name first and his second.
“Come on then. Show me what you got.”
Your first turn you bowl is a strike. Looking back at Changbin you can tell he is not going to go easy on you. When he takes his first turn he also gets a strike and the competitiveness in the both of you lights up.
“Want to make a bet? Make this more interesting?” He suggests and you don’t think twice before nodding.
“The loser has to pay for ice cream after.”
He puts his hand out for you to shake to make a deal and you gladly take it. His hand is just like you remember. Rough in some places but somehow still soft. It’s your turn next and you hit nine pins but easily come back by making it a spare.
Changbin gets another strike and you wanted to rub that smug look off of his face the second he turned around to walk back. You get up and purposefully brush your shoulder against him, lightly knocking him to the side and your heart flutters at the sound of his laugh.
“Playing dirty I see.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You flip your hair over your shoulder and get ready for your next turn.
Back and forth you both get strikes and spares and by the time there is only one round left you are beating Changbin by three points.
You hold the ball up to your chest and right before you could wind it back, you feel a warm presence suddenly behind you. Changbin leans near your ear, “good luck.” Then he walks back to the booth seat. You stand there, rigid for a few seconds then take a deep breath.
After you release the ball, you hold your breath as it starts to curve slightly and then smile when you hit all the pins down. Changbin is still standing behind you, ball in hand. You already know that there is no way for him to win, but his determination as he rolls the ball perfectly is really attractive. He knocks down all buy one and easily throws for a spare.
He walks back with a knowing look on his handsome face and you can't help but laugh a little bit.
“So ice cream on you then?” You playfully tease and your heart warms at his smile.
“I wouldn’t have let you pay for it anyway.”
You roll your eyes and then follow him to give your bowling shoes back. Changbin holds the door open for you and then you make your way over to an ice cream shop in his car, which was just down the street. It’s a cute little corner shop that has a lot of colorful decor. The line isn’t too long and Changbin asks which flavor you would like. You look at the options and tell him which one and then he asks for you to find a seat while he waits in line. There weren't that many tables so the only ones available that you could see were outside and you didn’t feel like being outside alone.
“I don’t mind waiting with you.” You smile up at him.
Changbin smiles back easily, “How long have you been bowling? You are way too good for that to be your first few times at least.”
“I used to go with my family a lot. It was something that everyone enjoyed so it was an easy thing to get us all together. What about you?”
“My friends and I have been going for years. I also just love bowling.” He tells you and then you are next to order.
After getting your respective ice creams, Changbin holds the door open, letting you lead the way to pick which table you want to sit at. Once settled you get straight back into your previous conversation and before you know it, it’s nearly ten pm. Your ice creams are gone and the smiles never leave your faces.
“How are you feeling? Are you cold?” Changbin asks after seeing you slightly shiver.
“Oh, maybe a little but I’m fine, really.”
Changbin shakes his head before slightly jogging to his car. You watch as he pulls his signature hoodie from the backseat and you nearly faint. He comes back and instead of just handing it to you, he carefully places it around your shoulders.
“Thank you.” Your voice is quiet and cheeks warm.
“Of course,” he looks at you with a twinkle in his eyes, “I’ve had a really good time tonight.”
“Me too. Thank you by the way, for paying for everything. You really didn’t have to.”
“Stop that. You don’t have to keep thanking me. I wanted to and hopefully I can do it in the future too.” Changbin looks at his hands sheepishly. His cheeks also heating up a little.
You wait until he looks up at you to answer, “I’d really like that.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY STAAAYYY :33
“He’s weird but in a good way,” Seungmin mumbled beside you while you were arranging the dessert onto the small glass shelf. You raised your head, your gaze trailing his sight before it fell onto a male. His face, obscured by his hood and clenched fist, rested against his cheek.
The cafe was almost empty as it was nearing closing hour, and Seungmin found himself observing the male since the morning he’d entered the cafe. The nameless male was their new regular, Seungmin noted, but that wasn’t the real reason for his newfound hobby.
He simply was curious (but more dumbfounded) when he noticed that the male couldn’t sit still for a second. Every time Seungmin looked away from him momentarily, somehow he had already begun doing something else. One time, he almost gave Seungmin a heart attack when he suddenly appeared on the counter with a sheepish grin.
Even when he was watching something on his phone, his fist kept clenching and unclenching, and his body swaying side to side as if a rough wind had blown over his body.
“Like you and Lix.” You muttered and glanced at Seungmin, offering a thin smile.
“I’ll clean his table.” You left the counter, ignoring the way his eyes squinted in judgment at your statement.
Walking towards him, you saw his quivering figure at the corner of your eye. Something churned inside your stomach as the worry settled in. Although it was none of your business to interfere, still, you were concerned.
Carefully, you patted the male’s shoulder, and his head jerked toward you, the remnant of his sobs escaping his lips.
“Are you okay, sir?” Your voice carried a hint of concern that his eyes went wide for a split second. He gazed back and forth between his phone and your face, heat rushing to his face as he hastily wiped the tears on the edge of his eyes.
God, this was embarrassing.
“I’m fine! I just get carried away with the story.” He uttered cheerfully, though there was a slight trembling in his tone.
You peeked behind his shoulder, and a gasp — a gasp too loud, bubbled out of your throat before you could contain it. He saw the glint in your eyes and his heart squeezed in curiosity, turning his head toward his phone.
“You watched Demon Slayer?” Now, you were sitting beside him, feet tapping the floor. He shyly nodded.
“I kind of got too emotional when Nezuko died…” He chuckled awkwardly. You spun your head and your gaze collided with his.
“She survived though–” You said bluntly as if that wasn’t an important fact.
“Don’t spoil it!”
That was the meeting that led to countless blurry days passed with flower frames, exchanging smiles across the counter and a close bond as though you’d met each other in your past life, dumb jokes that sound nonsense to Seungmin and Tsuki but made perfect sense to you and Jisung.
He was an unexpected surprise in your life, the one that came at an odd time, but you cherished it.
[2 months later]
“So, Seungmin brought this cafe?” The amazement in his voice drew your gaze toward him, abandoning the poem you were scribbling. The hum of the coffee machine had long died down as the shuffling of footsteps grew quieter in the cafe.
The sun had begun to descend on the horizon, hiding behind the building across the cafe, letting the orange hue paint the once blue sky. It was a breathtaking view—you saw it daily, but lately, it was more vibrant as if you could grasp it physically.
“Not really. He found this place, and four of us saved up money to buy it. This cafe is a dream come true.” The edge of your lips quirked as you peeked at Felix, who was wiping the counter. Gentle, that was what Jisung saw linger in your orb every time you glanced at Seungmin, Felix or Tsuki. The gentleness that was only reserved for those you called family.
He was stunned for a moment, something warm filling up in his chest that he couldn't utter anything. Another thing to know about you.
You looked at him, raising a brow at his silence. “What? Is that something mind-blowing to you?”
He blinked once.
Then, his eyes went comically wide. “No no no, I just found it amazing!” He said softly, sincerity concealing every word.
“Oh—thank you,” All the teasing you were about to say tangled on your tongue and instead a silent pride engulfed you, the buzzing sensation that rumbled in your body was the second. The first was when you told your parents about it.
He beamed a tender smile and tapped on your notebook, making you remove your arm from the pages. Truthfully, he had been watching you writing and discarding something on the pages to the point that his brain kept itching for an answer.
“Can I look at this?” He watched you with hopeful eyes, the ones that reminded you of your younger brother, wide and round black boba eyes staring at you. Your shoulder shrugged sheepishly as you shoved the book into his face. That look from Jisung is quite something—you prefer staring at the sun.
He giggled lightly as he thanked you.
“Those are just my nonsense. I would appreciate it if you don't judge them.”
“That would be perfect for a diss track about you,” He cackled.
“I hate you” You rolled your eyes, gaze resting on his calm smile as he flipped through the pages. Days like this have become a nature, a sacred residence where the two of you were the only residents—some days it was filled with mindless conversation until the peak of dawn and other days it was silence, bathing in the comfort of each other's presence.
You twirled your pen between your fingers, heart beating between anticipation and nervousness. But the sudden pain spiking in your abdomen instantly drowned those emotions. Your hands immediately let go of the pen and clenched your stomach, your back bent until your chest met your knee in a vain attempt to dull the pain.
“Is it fine if I write—” His words hung in the air, and soon, a screeching echoed in your ear along with a foreign warmth hovering over your hand.
“Hey, hey, are you okay?” Panic was all over him, in his face, in his voice. You could only shake your head, and without a second thought, his arms slid under your knee and body to carry you.
“Sung, I’m fine” You managed to stifle under the pain, hand pushing his chest to distance yourself from him.
“And yet, your face is pale as a corpse,” He joked, fixing your position in his embrace.
He went to the staircase beside the counter, eyes glancing at Felix for silent permission.
“The hot pack is beside the fridge. Thank you, Jisung,” Felix uttered, flashing him a grateful smile. Jisung nodded and rushed upstairs, where your home was.
He pushed the door open with his body and laid you on the couch carefully before scurrying to the kitchen to search for the hot pack. You peeked from the couch, knee pressing into your stomach to subside the pain—his forehead wrinkling as he browsed through the drawers and fridge to find something.
He returned to you with a bar of chocolate and a hot pack in his grip. He set the chocolate on the coffee table.
“I heard that chocolate can help. I hope it's true,” he mumbled, squeezing and shaking the plastic on the floor beside you. Once he felt warmth radiating from the plastic, he placed it on your stomach, and his hand stayed on the hot pack.
His gaze shifted to your face, your lips pressed together, and the beads of sweat clinging to your hair and your back. Extending his hand, he pushed away stray hairs from your face.
“It's okay, Sung. I can help myself” You took his hand off your stomach, but he slapped your hand away.
“You're my friend, let me take care of you, Y/N” He uttered softly, and his thumb started pressing into your stomach. You gave in, gripping his hand whenever the pain hit you.
And when Tsuki arrived home, she tiptoed to the living room, containing her chuckle as she snapped a picture of you and Jisung sleeping together, hands entangled with each other on your stomach.
It was nice to have him by your side. That was a harmless thought…really.
[6 months later]
When did his secret cafe become popular?
The long line at the counter left him flabbergasted, causing him to step back from the door, head perking at the glass wall to see if he had missed any notices or promotions. His reflection just stared back, a sign of eyebags becoming more obvious as nights passed.
A sigh later, and he joined the line, eyes flickering to his wristwatch. There was 1 hour left before the arrow pointed to 9. Thank God Hyunjin woke him up early today.
The line moved quickly as the creaking of the door grew frequent. His attention was on his phone, scrolling through the unread messages from his old university confession group — anonymous confessions, grumbling about workloads, gossip about a lecture hookup, etc, etc.
“Jisung?” The voice of the familiar cashier entered his ear, and he raised his gaze.
“Oh, sorry!” His eyes lit up with excitement, but soon they dimmed when his gaze fell upon the silhouette in front of him, shoulders slumped as he quickly stuffed his phone into his pocket.
The girl wasn't you—the one he expected to greet him this hectic morning. Instead, it was a girl he'd forgotten the name of, although she’d introduced herself to him countless times. Her never-flattered smile, body straight and her glimmering orbs kind of terrified and amazed Jisung because who can maintain that all day?
Tsuki was trying hard to keep her biggest smile on display while dull arrows pierced through her heart, cracking it painfully. Jisung's pout made things much worse, completely shattering her heart. Obviously, he wasn't happy to see her here.
But that wouldn't kill Tsuki’s spirit!
“This morning is quite busy, isn't it?” Tsuki beamed, and Jisung simply nodded, glancing at the menu behind her. His fingers idly rubbed against his palm.
“Can I have a chocolate frappe?” He uttered and averted his attention to Tsuki, lips tight as he took out his card.
“Of course! Anything else?”
“That would be enough for me this morning.” His lips formed a small smile. Tsuki gripped her uniform as her heart skipped a beat—his smile was gorgeous.
He quickly paid for his drink and bowed his head to the woman behind him. His free hand rubbed his neck as he apologised for taking a long time. Tsuki dramatically sighed, head tilted to the side, and you blinked rapidly from the coffee machine, confused.
“He’s so polite. Not to mention how adorable he is!” Tsuki whined as she passed Jisung’s order to you.
“How dare you gatekeep such boys from me?!” She continued, batting a dissatisfied eye toward you. A low ‘Huh’ slipped out of your lips, and your forehead wrinkled at the statement. Gatekeep? Jisung always came here, and Tsuki must have seen him often.
Tsuki stole a glance at your confused state before scowling, “You've been friends with him for months, and you never tell me how boyfriend material he is. Are you guys something?”
Warmth suddenly rushed to your cheeks, and you held her shoulder, begging her to focus on her work. Before leaving her, you whispered.
“He is nowhere any boyfriend material and we’re just friends.”
You read the order silently from the cup sleeve, and confusion washed over you. It wasn’t his usual order. You wanted to place the cup sleeve down, but something peaking out on the inner side of the sleeve caught your attention—a phone number.
A chuckle was emitted from you when you realised the familiar set of numbers belonged to Tsuki’s. Was she flirting with him earlier?
“Sungie?” You called out from the counter, and Jisung’s head perked up from his usual seat, his eyes twinkling in joy at your voice. You gestured for him to come to the counter.
“You sure you don’t want your usual order?”
His lips formed a loop-side grin before he leaned in, voice low as if he wanted to tell you something scared, and unconsciously, you leaned in too. His breath was fanning your ear, and after eight months of being friends with him, you felt a light shiver coursing through your body.
It differed from the shivers caused by the chilly breeze in the winter.
“I do, actually. The chocolate frappe was an excuse to run away from her…” His grin had widened until you could see his pearly teeth. His grin was adorable. You shook your head, hand reaching out for a marker nearby your station to fix his order.
“An iced Americano it is!”
“Thank you!” He exclaimed, hopping back to his seat, imitating an excited child. But as soon as he plugged his earphones in, the enlightenment on his face had contorted to focus. A meeting, it seemed.
Your attention gravitated toward him for a moment, gaze observing his wild hand gestures as he explained something over his phone, his widened, round eyes that beamed in surprise and the constant hum that slipped out of his lips.
Slapping your cheeks, you quickly shifted your body to the coffee machine.
Since when had you been paying too much attention to him? He was merely a friend.
“And yet, you called him by a nickname. Too much for ‘just friends’” You whipped your head to the side, startled by Tsuki’s teasing. She smirked, bumping her hips into yours, and began working on the order in her grip.
“Can’t friends call each other by nicknames? And what about you? Why did you write your number on his cup sleeve?”
That evoked a chuckle out of her. “Isn’t it obvious that I’ll ask him out? But–”
Her hand halted from shoving the ice and glanced at you “I know he would reject me even if he got that cup sleeve. You're going to throw it anyway, right?”
A knowing smile was on her face as she pointed at Jisung’s cup. She never believed you when you said you and he were friends because who was willing to take care of a girl when he had known her for two months? She was lucky that her little trick proved her guess was right.
Silence filled the space between you, a quiet moment that allowed doubt to stir inside of you. Your fingers fiddled with the edge of the cup. Why would Tsuki say that?
“Do whatever you think is right,” Tsuki said.
“Lix, can I take a break?” You peeked from the kitchen door, eyes wandering around the small kitchen to search for the blonde boy. Soon, you heard a cough and someone backing off from the oven. Felix’s head popped out, some remnant of the coughs leaving his lips. His gaze shifted to you, and he nodded his head, hand waving through the air to wash off the smoke.
“Sure, Y/N. Take as long as you need.” He uttered calmly despite his endless coughing. He shut the oven door, lips pouting in disappointment as he watched the burned muffins on the tray.
“Did you—”
“Talk with Seungmin until I forget the muffins? Yes, and I’m not proud of it” In a blink, his head was on the table, and a dull thud echoed in the area. Your shoulder jolted in surprise, and your eyes squinted as an ‘ouch’ left you.
“Lix!” Tsuki’s voice came beside you as she rushed to Felix, pulling him by the shoulder and scanning his face. A relieved sigh left her as the worries in her orbs began to fade.
“I deserve that, honestly” He muttered, rushing to throw the muffins into the trash. He inhaled a deep breath while patting Tsuki's shoulder.
“Thank you for worrying about me, Tsuki. I need to re-bake these.” He rolled up his sleeve, and you took that as a sign to drag Tsuki back to the front. You could feel a flame of determination start devouring Felix. It was better to leave him.
After a while, you finally took the break you asked for earlier. As if it were your second nature, you headed to Jisung's seat, heart beating violently against your ribcage.
Since when have you felt like this?
“Sung—” Your cheer mixed into the background when you saw his head buried in the depth of his arm, his earphones plugged into his ear and a Ghibli movie running on his phone. The evening ray was gently wrapping him with its warmth, softening his features even more and lulling him into a deep nap.
Calm and undisturbed.
A soft smile bloomed on your lips as you quietly sat beside him, hands carefully taking off the earphones and turning off his phone.
You rested your cheek on your palm, letting the comfort of his presence ground you. Your gaze rested on him as the unfamiliar feeling came knocking at your soul. It was begging for you to acknowledge it.
It was the feeling that concealed your body with an indescribable warmth whenever you were with him.
The warmth that protects you from the gloomy days and cherishes even your smallest achievements.
Your hand halted halfway in the air, unsure.
He won't wake up, right?
You clenched your fist once before carefully reaching for his hair, fingers slightly quivering as they threaded through his soft black locks. It felt right—as if you had done it before.
It stayed for a long time; he slept peacefully while you gently caressed and massaged his hair and head, the surroundings and voice blurred into a muted motion.
Was this still a friendly gesture between friends?
His figure stirred, and you quickly pulled your hand—
His hands suddenly gripped your wrist, placing your hand back in his hair.
“Don't stop…” He mumbled, voice heavy with sleep. His eyes stole a glance at you through his bangs; fondness lingered in his orbs that fortunately remained a secret from you.
“It makes my sleep better.” He continued, letting go of your wrist and turning his head to have a better view of you.
Why did you feel you had stepped over the friend's boundaries?
It stirred uncertainty in your stomach, and yet, you ignored it, continuing your earliest act. His gaze stayed on you, his own heart racing against the normal pace.
What was happening? This was still a friend's gesture, right? This was normal, right? His heart questioned.
“Hey…are you free tonight?” The question shouldn't have slipped out but his mind betrayed him before he could stop it.
You nodded, retracting your hand.
“I’m just thinking of starting a new anime, that's all.”
His head immediately raised as a relieved grin etched onto his features. “Great! Do you want to watch that movie?”
He wanted to hate himself for it, but somehow that made his shoulder lighter.
“Sure!”
You stepped a few steps back, running your hands over your clothes before observing your reflection in the mirror, your hands settling on your hips as you released a soft sigh.
“Is this okay?” You mumbled, glancing at Tsuki, who was staring at the white ceiling in her bed.
“Why did you ask? You’ve been going on a bunch of dates with him before.” She said without peeking at you, finding the stars attached to the ceiling more interesting than whatever storm was brewing inside your mind.
“It’s not a date! It’s a hangout” The end of the sentence trailed into a whisper, too low for Tsuki to catch it, too bitter for you to say it out loud. It was true, and yet your chest ached and tightened as if you were drowning six feet under. Tsuki peeked at you, noticing your glum expression.
She got up from the bed, approaching you before eventually resting her chin on your shoulder.
“Are you sure?” Her tone suggested another topic—one distant from the stated subject. It touched the secluded part in your heart that you were afraid to let out, not yet.
Before you could convince her, your phone buzzed on the vanity. Picking it up, you headed for the door.
“Trust me, Tsuki!” You gave her a grin and went downstairs, where Jisung was waiting for you outside the cafe. Hearing the wind chime above him, he raised his head toward the door, lips immediately forming a smile. He pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against and nudged his head.
“Let’s go!”
You hummed, easily falling into step beside him. The streetlights cast a faint yellow light over the sidewalk, and the rustling of your shoes against the bricks dissolves into the night air.
And the small gap between you and him made itself obvious to you, brewing that newfound feeling inside of you. But you brushed it off, along with the urge to hold his hand.
The cinema was a few blocks away, but it felt so far… never mind, it was just your mind.
The exit door of the hall swung open, and laughter and conversation were abrupt, each mouth nonstop talking about the movie. Jisung was the same, eyes glimmering in child-like joy as he talked about how in awe he was with the storyline or how he hated the main protagonist.
You nodded, listening to him ramble while you threw the popcorn box into the rubbish.
“I can't imagine if the infinite castle exists in real life! I would probably just let the demon devour me—” He stopped talking as soon as he saw your face, the once widened grin turned to a teasing one.
“What?” You questioned, confused. Your steps died instantly.
He gripped your sleeve and held your cheeks, thumb swiftly brushing a running tear away. A wooden but fresh smell entered your nose—his cologne was wafting through the air. How close was he? Your breath ran short momentarily, and you heard a small tick sent off in your head that caused adrenaline to rush out.
“You cried, didn't you?” He giggled, his palm warm against your cold cheeks.
Your eyes widened, and you quickly wiped your face, all while calming yourself. And his hand fell to the side.
That feeling returned, slipping into your heart. No, you're overthinking it, Y/N. He was helping you.
You glared at him and kicked his foot.
“As if you didn't cry earlier” You trudged forward first, leaving him to catch up to you. And he did, giggles still leaving his lips as his hand extended to place it on your shoulder. He swayed your body back and forth while apologising for the teasing(jokingly).
Later, his hand found yours in a secure grip, fingers lacing with each other. His thumbs rubbed the back of your hand in an unrecognisable pattern. Butterflies’ wings fluttered against your ribcage, but your head blared a warning; this wasn't a friendly gesture anymore.
And yet, you ignored it.
Minutes later, you and Jisung arrived at the cafe and, as usual, you bid him goodbye and disappeared upstairs after locking the cafe’s door.
Once your figure was out of his sight, he let out a heavy sigh, his shoulder dropped as his hand ran down his face.
What was this uncomfortable burning feeling blooming in his chest?
The apartment was dimly lit by the standing light in the living room, and the low whirring of the fridge was faintly echoing in the area. Taking off his shoes, he made his way to his room, but his gaze flickered to the door across from his room, a white light slipping out on the edge of the door.
Without any second thought, he twisted the doorknob and entered the room. Minho’s eyes shifted from the pages to Jisung's silhouette, a mischievous grin playing on his lips as he set the book down on his bed.
“So, how was the date with that cute cafe girl?” Minho asked as Jisung sank into the chair by the desk.
“Correction, it's a hangout, not a date,” Jisung stated firmly, causing Minho to scowl. Minho shifted to the edge of the bed and slapped Jisung’s arm with more force than he intended. Jisung’s mouth agape as he shrank himself into the seat, screaming in pain.
“What was that?! I just came home, and that’s how you greet me?!”
“Are you still in denial?” Minho arched a brow toward him.
“No?” Jisung tilted his head. “It’s a hangout. But I can’t believe that she cried earlier.”
And he continued, telling Minho about how you messed with his hair while he was napping, complimenting how cute you were when you were mad on your previous late-night ramen session with you, how red your face was while saying that the ramen wasn’t spicy at all. And Minho listened attentively, as he always did. Because this wasn’t the first time…ever since Jisung met you, Minho and, rarely, Hyunjin had become Jisung’s loyal listeners.
“And she kept insisting that she was fine–”
“You like her, don’t you?” Minho asked directly, eyes intensely staring into Jisung’s bright one as if he tried to decipher what was in Jisung’s mind.
Jisung closed his mouth for a second before nodding. The hand that was holding Minho’s chin this entire time fell onto his lap, his own eyes widened in surprise.
“As a friend, of course!” He uttered with such confidence that Minho couldnt help the sigh that slipped out, his body slumped back into his bed before grabbing the pillow above him and throwing it to Jisung. He caught it, a confusion whirlwind inside of him, but there was a simmering pain underneath the confusion.
The pain was beginning to bite his skin.
“Hannie, you’re playing, right? You’re talking about her as if you had fallen for her…as if she were the one” Minho sat back and snatched the pillow from Jisung’s grip, his voice tinged in annoyance.
“I’m not! Can’t I say good things about her?” His voice raised a bit in irritation.
“You can, but you don’t need to specifically say that her eyes hold your universe or write three songs just to say how she is your haven.”
“Okay, okay, I’m just too observant” Jisung raised his hand in mock surrender, and Minho flashed him an unfaithful glance.
“That’s not being observant, Hannie. You like her…more than friends”
“I’m.not” Jisung's heart ached—the pain had arrived in his heart, lacing it with a thorn that embedded deeper with every breath he took.
Minho stole a glimpse of the clock and stood up. He grabbed Jisung's hand and pulled him to the door.
“Jisung, you can lie to me, but not to your heart. Before anyone gets hurt, don't do anything stupid” He squeezed Jisung's hand, and Jisung's eyes fell to the floor. Slowly, a realisation hit him.
Too late, I think I already did it. I already did something stupid that stirred her emotions.
Tick…tick…the clock on the wall echoed as it neared three in the morning. Sleep wasn't an option when the voices in your head growled louder, your shoulder grew heavier as you spent more time with him. The mug in your grip was empty, but you kept rubbing the smooth edge.
Your mind had wandered about him—how his act felt different lately, and his “friendly” gesture that heated your entire face.
And how you kept paying attention to his small habits that you had unconsciously called cute habits.
Since when did the line between friends become blurry?
“Couldn't sleep?” A deep and hoarse voice greeted you, and your gaze averted to the voice. Felix was half-smiling at you while rubbing his eyes.
You hummed and followed his figure until he sat beside you. He looked over to you after he drank the water, dark clouds lingering behind your orbs as you stared at the kitchen wall.
“Are you thinking about Jisung?” He asked, and you solemnly nodded, your fingers halted.
“Friends don't do that, Lix. A friend doesn't look at you like you're the only thing important in this world. The word just friends shouldn’t hurt me if we are friends, but it does.” You silently confessed, fingers slightly digging into your palm. You noticed the changes in Jisung since he helped you with your cramp—he used to hesitate when he wanted to touch you, but now?
A smile that resembled a relieved smile spread to Felix's face as he set the mug down on the table.
“About time you realise it, Y/N. Tsuki would be happy to hear this.”
You glanced at him, and he ruffled your head. “Stop hurting yourself, yeah? You like him, and there's no denying it. I saw how you looked at him, Y/N”
“But can I say that to him? What if that's his definition of a friendly gesture?”
“Then, I’ll beat him up. I’m serious,” Felix uttered sternly and stood up.
“Just confess to him, okay? At least your mind won't be burdened by this nonsense anymore” He went to the fridge, grabbed an egg and passed it to you.
“It’s time to bake something, don't you think so?”
A thin smile appeared on your face as you accepted the egg.
“Could you help me?”
“Sure, what's on your mind?”
“A cheesecake”
It was in the air when he entered the cafe and met you that morning; the reality was suffocating him, causing him to stumble in his words and blocking his smile from being sincere. You felt it, the wall that began forming between you, creating a distance that felt too far for you to reach him.
From the counter, you noticed he was often spacing out, eyes aimlessly gazing at the street. You badly wanted to ask him why, but his attitude this morning made you hesitate to approach him or talk to him. Even when calling out his order, you had called him Jisung. The entire day felt wrong…and the nerves buzz in you won’t leave you alone.
Felix noticed the obvious change and nudged your shoulder that evening before the cafe closed—before Jisung left. Because he saw that Jisung was getting ready to leave.
“Go, Y/N. What if this is your only chance?”
You looked up to Felix, doubt creeping in.
What if you were wrong this entire time? What if this were to break your friendship with him?
Felix sighed and held your shoulder, gently squeezing it. “I’m right behind you if anything happens,” He whispered.
You inhaled a deep breath, gathering bits of courage inside of you and went to the kitchen, grabbing the white box out of the huge fridge. Your palm felt clammy and sweaty as you tightened the grip on the box.
Your heart dropped to the pit of your stomach when you left the area.
Jisung's seat—empty
The ringing of the wind chime fades into the background.
Was it too late?
You rushed out of the cafe and headed in his direction, the flicker of hope slowly dying in you.
Your pace quickened as soon as his figure entered your sight. And before you could find your voice, your hand had reached for the hem of his shirt.
“Sungie, wait.” His steps immediately halted, and his head peeked over his shoulder, orbs wavering in guilt as he turned around.
“Y/N…why are you here?” He muttered, his fist clenching by his side. He glanced at you once and shifted his attention to the pavement, afraid that the feeling would take control of his body. The pain in his chest has been unbearable since last night.
“I need to say something to you.” The box softly collided with his chest, and he took it, peeking inside. The gasp was stuck in his throat —it was a cheesecake.
“I like you, Jisung” You uttered, gaze staying on him. It was low, but as long as he heard it, you don't mind.
He stared at you, mouth slightly agape, and a mix of undecipherable emotions washed over his face.
“You mean as a friend, right? If it is—”
“More than a friend, Sungie. More than that…”
His mouth shut itself.
“I keep telling myself that I’m not falling for you, and yet I did. Some days, I wish I could stay by your side just to listen to you rambling about your lyrics. Or comfort you when things get tough—”
Your words hung in the air when his arm pulled you into his chest, and his arm wrapped your shoulder tightly. The box crumpled between you.
“I’ll follow my heart this time,” He mumbled and hid his face in the blade of your shoulder.
“I like you too, Y/N.”
The shade of red coloured your cheeks as well as his when he raised his face. He cleared his throat, untangling words on his tongue.
“I guess I had been hiding my feelings underneath all those friendly gestures.” His eyes softened as he leaned down. Your body jolted back, heart hammering so loud that you thought it might jump out of your chest.
You shut your eyes, feeling his breath brushing over you. He saw you tugging on his shirt, and a thin smile bloomed. He threw the previous thought out of his mind. It was too early for that.
Chup
His lips landed on your forehead, lingering seconds longer. You opened your eyes, and your cheeks darkened even more.
“So…are we official now? Does that mean I can mess with your hair or hold your hand without feeling guilty whenever we go out?”
“Yes, you can, Y/N”
“Thank God”
You cheered, a wide smile on your face that he doted on the most. Your face was buried in his chest while he rested his chin on your head, pulling you closer by your waist.
“Thank you for bearing my idiotic, Y/N”
He mumbled.
“It's alright, we are both idiots”
Your heart bloomed with a giddy feeling—it was love, wasn't it?
Your first love, the one who will be your light in this unknown journey. The one you wish will always be your happiness. It was him, Han Jisung, and you couldn’t be more grateful for it.
