i do think it's strange when people act like joyce telling buffy "if you walk out that door, don't even think about coming back" was some kind of fundamental trauma for buffy. it was a dick move on joyce's part for sure and i don't think it helped buffy's feelings of alienation but let's be real that was not in the top 5 most traumatic things that happened to buffy in that 24-hour period. like kendra got murdered which she blamed herself for, the police then blamed her for kendra's murder and tried to arrest her, snyder kicked her out of school, giles got kidnapped by her evil abusive ex-boyfriend, her friends got beat up by said abusive ex's minions, she had to swordfight said abusive ex, and then he got his soul back but she had to kill him and send him to hell anyway to prevent the literal end of the world. all of those things are worse than 'her mom said something mean and desperate to try to get her to stay' sorry

As someone who was greatly impacted by this scene, I have to respectfully disagree with this stance. A lot of the time, small things like that, which really shouldn't rank against everything going on around you, can have a profound impact on you emotionally if you're already in the midst of something traumatic. How my parents reacted to the trauma I was going through in high school, though it was nowhere near as intense as the actual trauma, is still triggering for me to this day. That moment alone probably wouldn't have made Buffy bat an eyelash. Instead, it compounded the trauma by creating a circumstance where her support system refused to support her at a critical moment. I'd argue that moment was super crucial and in itself traumatic for Buffy because she trusted her mother with her secret when she direly needed someone, and came away with the message that she is truly alone. Just wanted to share my thoughts, I totally respect if you feel differently.

OP you're right and you SHOULD say it. Tbh Angel needs to learn what redemption is from Spike?? He did it without a soul, he did it without being forced into it. There was nobody to tell him to get his pathetic shit together and make a difference, he chose it. Angel has no right.
just thinking about how despite AtS trying to portray it as comedic bickering amongst bros, Spike actually has decades worth of reasons to hate Angel, while Angel has remarkably few reasons to hate Spike. And it should maybe be concerning that from School Hard on, Angel adopts an absolute "don't see what this has to do with me" reaction to him?

It might have been a poor indication of Eliot's mental state that he was less concerned with following a Dark fairy or possibly malevolent ghost after midnight than he was with someone catching him in the halls. So far it was a helpful ghost that conveniently led him to the Dark King's main advisor's dirty little secret, which put him and Margo in prime usurper position. Sane enough, right?
The first time he caught sight of Quentin, though, was in full, glaring daylight. That was when he began to question his decline from sanity. It was when he started to question more than that.

What if Eliot did a lot more from inside the Happy Place than take a greatest hits tour of his deepest regrets and speak to reality-Quentin only the one time?
What if Eliot kept putting himself through the wringer to get out to Quentin when he could, especially when Quentin needed him? And by practicing, could stay out for longer stretches of time?
What if the memory palace is actually the greatest study hall Eliot has ever known, and the enforced solitude with all his memories gives him the chance to level up into the master magician he was always meant to be?
Eliot sees Quentin struggling–with the Monster, with exhaustion and burnout, with depression–and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t do everything in his power to help. Especially since he feels responsible for it all.
4x9: Eliot to Penny-23: “This is a mind palace situation, and we don’t have a lot of time, and I have some extremely major shit to tell you.” Penny-23 to Quentin: “I saw Eliot in there. Alive. And poking around like a pro. The Monster, everything he can’t remember. It’s in there. All of it.”

oh! I have to tell you guys a great story one of my professors told me. So he has a friend who is involved in these Shakespeare outreach programs where they try to bring Shakespeare and live theatre to poor and underprivileged groups and teach them about English literature and performing arts and such. On one of their tours they stopped at a young offenders institute for women and they put on a performance of Romeo and Juliet for a group of 16-17 year old girls. It was all going really well and the girls were enjoying and laughing through the first half - because really, the first half is pretty much a comedy - but as the play went on, things started to get quiet. Real quiet. Then it got up to the suicide scene and mutterings broke out and all the girls were nudging each other and looking distressed, and as this teacher observed them, he realised - they didn’t know how the play ended. These girls had never been exposed to the story of Romeo and Juliet before, something which he thought was impossible given how ubiquitous it is in our culture. I mean, the prologue even gives the ending away, but of course it doesn’t specify exactly how the whole “take their life” thing goes down, so these poor girls had no idea what to expect and were sitting there clinging to hope that Romeo would maybe sit down for a damn minute instead of murdering Paris and chugging poison - but BAM he died and they all cried out - and then Juliet WOKE UP and they SCREAMED and by the end of the play they were so upset that a brawl nearly broke out, and that’s the story of how Shakespeare nearly started a riot at a juvenile detention centre

A god only lives when there are people alive who pray to (or fear) it. They die whenever their last believer dies.
Because of this, there’s a warlock out there who can harass his patron with zero repercussions because both of them know damn well that he’s the only one keeping them alive.

andrew came downstairs from the office to give me a hug and seemed really worried about me and it turned out that i had reblogged a picture of a jellyfish with the tag “sometimes i wish i could be this” and while i had meant “beautiful, ethereal, and full of light” he had interpreted it as meaning “brainless and totally free of the burden of consciousness”
