We often talk about good skating skills, but I think we rarely get videos of skaters working them. Andrew Torgashev posted this video of edgework, and although these are fairly simplistic moves, they really show how much power and depth of edge he gets with very little effort. It was really apparent in his free skate at US Nationals too, where he could get enough power and speed to cross after the rink and do a quad jump with only a crossover or two and maybe one pump. Super impressive.

rest in peace, dick button (july 18, 1929 – january 30, 2025)

dick button, known as the godfather of figure skating, was a two-time back-to-back olympic champion, a five-time consecutive world champion, and the only non-european man to become a european champion! he was the first skater in history to land a double axel, as well as the first to land a triple jump of any kind (the triple loop), in competition. additionally, he was credited for inventing the flying camel spin (aka the "button camel"). after his retirement, he became an expert sports analyst, winning an emmy award for his excellent commentary on figure skating.
