Genevieve had heard the rumors: strange sightings and sounds in the forest at night, connected to no small number of missing persons’ cases. Of course, many attributed these incidents to the mage rebellion, just like the Fossbarrow incident. Genevieve didn’t know if it was the work of magecraft or something else, but either way, the disappearance of Demacian soldiers warranted the intervention of the Ranger-Knights. Genevieve rode atop her trusty mount, crossbow at the ready. She scanned the darkness closely, but then she noticed Cern growing uneasy. Just as Genevieve tried to calm her partner, she saw it: a figure standing in the distance, highlighted against the setting sun. The Ranger-Knight drew her crossbow, then hesitated. It looked to be nothing more than a scarecrow... So why did staring at it make her feel so uneasy?

Fiddlesticks watches the Ranger-Knight pull her weapon, and it remains stock-still. It had expected someone would be sent to investigate the rumors its presence would inevitably bring... Mortals just never learn. Not that Fiddlesticks is complaining. It can already taste the discomfort on the wind, and where there is discomfort, fear often follows.

Fiddlesticks ponders its course of actions, here. It's faster than any animal, certainly it could chase down the Ranger-Knight if it needed, but it doesn't enjoy a chase. It's often more effort than it's worth, when there's prey that will get closer, or try to hide.

A gust of unusually cold wind disturbs the night air, and Fiddlesticks leans with it as though the scarecrow's post has broken, sagging its shoulders and sending the flock of crows scattering and screaming. It drops its lantern, figuring the risk of a fire from within the broken glass might be enough to draw the rider closer.

What is that in the distance? A statue? A broken scarecrow? A monster? It sits stock still, bladed shoulders hunched, countless crows perched on its back and on the arm that holds a flickering lantern high. It's silhouette sticks out against the skyline, almost human but not quite.

Either way, it's an odd thing to be left just sitting there.
