Someday you will know that a father is much happier in his children’s happiness than in his own. I cannot explain it to you: it is a feeling in your body that spreads gladness through you.”

gxldenfinwe:
“King Olwë is here? Did he say which of his children he was bringing?” Arvo’s eyes lit up, suddenly a hundred times more interested in the party. If his father said he looked good in the jewellery, Arvo would not argue.
“It does,” he admitted. He had not realised it was so obvious. “It feels less… formal. Ammë says I should wear Noldorin robes at court, though.”
“Your mother worries,” Finwe said fondly, his tone making it clear how much he loved his wife, though there was a bit of exasperation knowing she worried that if their blond son did not dress as a Noldor people might question just how reasonable it was to have him at the Noldorin court. But the choice of who had Finwe’s ear was the king’s alone, “Wear that which makes you feel comortable and confident, be true to yourself, Arafinwe, now and forever.” “I know there is a number, Prince Elerde and Elulindo and Aravolwe, I do believe,” He said trying to recall if any of the other princes joined, “And Princess Earwen of course. It was to be a bit of a surprise but I am finding myself a bit impatient to see what you think. The Princess has sent me a letter only a week past requesting to be allowed to stay in Tirion for furtherment of some of her studies. Olwe and I decided that a year would be nice to allow her time to expand her knowledge of our ways and customs, she is about your age, might you be interested in helping her during her stay? Be no means do you have to though, I could ask Nelyafinwe or perhaps Ronda to be her aid.”
(@firstbloodinaman) "We rarely have a moment together alone, Arvo... might I tend your hair?"
The request to Arvo seemed sudden, since it was true that they rarely had time alone. The natural consequence of such a large and loud family. It almost startled him into silence. He look at the comb in his hand for a moment, then held it out to his father - and then he smiled.
"Of course, Atar."

Finwe continued, adding a few other pieces that were the king’s own, blue diamonds and light topazes and peridots. He would comment that his son stood out well on his own without the pearls but was wise enough to know those words would not be welcomed, “Well the party is to welcome King Olwe and some of his children for their stay in Tirion, so I believe wearing the gems of their people is a wonderful show of the bonds of friendships between our two houses.” “Aside from that it suits you... Noldorin fashion has never seemed to be comfortable for you, the Teleri use lighter materials, free flowing styles, you walk like on air in those... and truly, I want you to dress how you are comfortable. Does this make you so?”

Finwe smiled and pulled a small box from his sleeve and walked over to stand behind his son and mindfully comb the curls of his golden hair to soften them without causing frizz, “A gift arrived from an admirer in Alqualonde for you,” He teased gently, “I thought they would look nice on you for the gathering today,” He opened the box where hair pins of single or strings of natural pearls sat. Fingers moving to set them in the coils of Arvo’s hair.

Righto so…. for new followers, I have been pretty sick so my brain is dumb, feel free to send me anything you want to. I might be slow but will do my best to reply unless tumblr eats them. All my muses are super approachable except Melkor, but well… he’s Melkor. If you have any questions go ahead and ask, it does make my day to see the little number over my assbox.

Somewhat related to this post but only tangentially, I think elves should all be crazy about newborn baby smell. I know many people are like that in real life, but given how elven culture treats children and how keen their senses are, I think they should be just. Crazy about it.

“Then I shall have it framed and hung in our hall of portraits,” He said and ignored the paint getting in his hair alongside drool. His eyes went to his wife, sparkling, “And more art supplies shall be ordered so he might indulge his newly flowering gift.”
"Finwë, dearest."
Indis could not contain her smile. In her arms, Arvo clutched a piece of paper in his tiny, infant fists. "We have something for you. Go on, dear, show Atya."
Arvo grinned his tiny grin, new teeth poking out and waved the paper at him. "We dew At-yah!"
Finwe put aside a report he was reading, mentally he wondered if he might get Rhonda to summarize it, three scrolls to get to the point was really too much instead he took his smallest child from his wife, setting him so both could look at the picture, "Oh, this is not me, my little Arvo, he is far too handsome."

“Ah, true, I suppose that the city did seem to make you thrive as it did many others. Oh, I know it might be a burden but Feanaro is bringing his family into town next week, we will need to be prepared for another infant about with young Nelyafinwe, can you see that proper arrangements are made as well?”
(ossoraca)(Ronda) Your majesty, I hope you are not working yourself too hard?
"No no," He said, eyes lowered in a clearly tired manner as he for the tenth time read a sentence on the paper before him. Arvo was teething which meant long nights and long days for the king as he would not leave all the child rearing to his wife, "My youngest is cutting his first teeth and not enjoying it when nothing is about to distract him. I am sure you remember with your own son."

Finwe nodded with a chuckle, “There are times I find myself thinking back to our days running the forests and chasing prey. Do you ever miss those times? You had your wife still in those days too.”

“They are indeed. I cannot thank you enough. I feel I often duck my work on you when the children are young though, please forgive me,” He slowly stood and allowed himself a yawn, “You should join us for supper, perhaps invite young Aicarmo too if he is about.”

If Finwe could change anything in his life what would it be?
Now this is heavily for my own Finwe and him alone.
Finwe would have saved Miriel, found a way to give life to her and shared in more of giving some of himself into making Feanaro to spare her the pains. He would have found some way through the Featuri or such.
Not that they would have remained married to her. My Finwe was best friends with Miriel and loved her deeply as such, but he was in love with Indis. He would have asked for a divorce still so long as Miriel agreed and went on to marry Indis. But he wants more than anything to help the one who was by his side and helped him through so much.

Does Finwë ever regret coming to Valinor? What did he like best about Cuivivenen? What did he not like? Would he go back to that time if he could?
He regrets a few things, like those he never got to see again, and taking the throne. But he never fully regretted going to Valinor.
He most loved the freedom of the hunts and running through the trees. He didn't need the same poise and grace as Tirion expects, he hated that they were hunted though. Scared of the shadows reaching too far and snatching a loved one away.
He is sure he could not keep up as he is now if he returned to those times, but Irmo is kind and lets him visit a more rose tinted version in his dreams.

How did Finwë become leader of the Noldor? Is a role he accepted readily, or reluctantly? What qualities does he have that he thinks make him suited to kingship- or does he sometimes think they should have chosen someone else?
He has always believed another should have been chosen over himself. But he was one that many knew and who knew how to mediate between the extreme ends of their tribes to find common ground. It was actually his wife who put him forth as a potential king and most agreed to he accepted.

What one aspect of their physical appearance do they think is hot?
Finwe is probably a fan of his own hands. He is very expressive with them when talking and is rather skilled with them when laying with his wife (wives?).
