( Hey all! :) I’ve tossed this blurb up on my rules page, but thought that I would share it here also for your convenience. ;) Thanks for reading! )

- if you are familiar with any version of the poldark story, you will know that ossie is an easy character to hate on/make fun of, and i fully expect and even encourage this in crack discussions/ooc. however, please keep in mind that in the canon, he has a good reputation, and is generally respected and well-liked by others. yes, some people are going to find him obnoxious/unlikable (take george (warleggan) for instance) simply because of his manner, or because of other dealings they have had with him. if your character already knows him, and you feel they would have a low opinion of him for one or both of these reasons, that is absolutely fine. but for your character to know that he has visited prostitutes/abuses his wife/had an affair with her 15-year-old sister/sucks on feet is, in most cases, completely illogical. he goes to great lengths to keep these things secret, and more than not, succeeds in this endeavor. as i have said, he has a good reputation, is a respected member of the community, is generally regarded as being good at his job, and is, for the most part, well-liked. i know that it’s tempting to tease him/hate on him for the reasons stated above - but please, try to keep it ooc unless your character has a very good reason (preferably a canonical one, or at least one you’ve first run by me) for knowing more. also, keep in mind that i do not run with the canon of s3 of the new tv series, and therefore do not factor into my plot incidents such as ross and demelza encountering ossie outside of a brothel (which does not happen in the novels). amusing as it was, it is relevant to ossie’s character/the way other characters view him/his role in the story that these doings remain secret, and needless to say, additions such as the one i’ve just mentioned compromise that.

She blinked slightly at his final statement, slender brows turning a little towards their inner corners as her expression flickered. But this was all very brief, and her lips were soon smiling again, features dipping gently. “Then I hope you shall have little cause for concern, Mister Whitworth. Please do pass my congratulations onto your wife.”

     “That I shall, Mrs. Warleggan; that I shall. But in the meantime, will you not take the floor with me for the coming dance? I had set my eye on you before the gavotte, and I assure you, I have thought of nothing since.”

Her smile softened, became more heartfelt. “Oh—how lovely to hear. I congratulate you both, sir.” She bowed her face gently, fingers lacing neatly before her waist. “I hope it may be all you wish for.”

     “And I thank you for it, ma’am. Of course, I pray nightly on that account myself. Esther, you see, is of an unhappily frail constitution------these things take a toll on her, but she does so relish the task of bearing new life into this world that I believe it sees her perfectly recovered soon after.”

“Of course.” She smiled a little more, lashes lowering as she acquiesced. “This past February; he was born on Saint Valentine’s Day. And how is your own family, Mister Whitworth?”

     “Myself and my beloved wife, Esther, have lately been blessed with another child, which shall be delivered to us this coming November. Being that I am already the father of two charming daughters, I pray for a son, naturally------but as always, ma’am, these things are in God’s hands.”

She nodded politely, a faint smile glimpsing her lips. “My husband and I were flattered by your attendance, sir. It’s a pity it has been so long since last we met.”

     “A pity indeed, ma’am. But I believe you have been delivered of a son since that happy occasion? No doubt your husband is most gratified. I regret I was unable to attend his christening------when was it, this past March? Parish matters, ma’am------parish matters, you will of course understand.”

We have been introduced, I believe------I was in attendance at your nuptials, but that seems a frightful long time past.”
