Despite her sister's reassurance — her own mostly unshaken, enduring certainty that nothing in the universe could outshine the strength of her faith in her, no matter what transpired, whatever cataclysms and heartbreaks they might face — Alex couldn't completely ignore the yawning, dark, abyssal pit in her stomach.

If Kara's initial, yet fleeting proposition of picking up and moving to co - exist alongside her cousin had once stricken her with a sense of bitter unease, with the feeling of impending loss, Argo was something else entirely; a place so far - flung that Metropolis hardly seemed so distant. But it was home, in a sense that Alex would never be able to fathom. Home, in a way that nothing else could imitate or replace — not Midvale, nor the loft, or she herself.

Hard as it was to say goodbye, even for the short term, she'd never had the right to deprive Kara of that. No one did.

Dumb luck, nothing else, but she had survived with just a few scratches and soreness that a good nap could take care of. No way to wipe Winn's memories, unfortunately. "So," she started once they were back alone, after all the Supers had gone away to fight some other evil. But she didn't know how to continue, and so she stopped at that.

With Sam in her arms, Kara felt like everything in the world was right and true and full of justice. Everything seemed to make sense now that she was holding her world in her arms. Kara could understand why Reign had done a number on her girlfriend (which was a funny sentence if you thought about it too long) to an extent that Sam probably didn't even know about. Red Kryptonite was something else altogether, but.... Still.

Sam wasn’t used to accepting compliments or praise, but ever since her relationship with Kara had blossomed into something precious, she was starting to improve at it. Despite knowing better than to protest, an exhale of disbelief fell free. I’m not incredible, she wanted to argue, but instead, Sam managed a soft, tired smile. It slowly faded as doubts born from their recent history surfaced.

“How can you still believe that, after everything she - ” swallowing to combat the sudden tightness in her throat, Sam looked down, unrelenting guilt buried deep beneath her skin. “ - Reign did to you?
