LOL you're a dork
"I—" he wanted to argue, but just the other day Korra had called him a dork; endearingly, of course. He averted his eyes, scratching at his cheek sheepishly, “I can’t exactly say otherwise," he mumbled.

Mako chuckled softly as he rested a hand on her shoulder, aimlessly playing with the end of her wolf tail. The happiness he felt upon seeing her was evident by the smile that wouldn't even begin to leave his face. Korra, even now, was one of the few who got to see him like this- completely relaxed, completely content with everything. Just a little over a year ago if somebody had told him this would be his life soon, he would have never believed them and for good reasons too, who would ever expect the Avatar to fall for a street rat?
"Boring, eh?" he asked, his voice nothing more than a low hum, "the Korra I know never gets bored," he goes on to say, giving her a wide grin. It was almost impossible to believe how much Mako had changed in such a short time, all thanks to woman in his arms.  "You know, I'm really glad I'm going to be getting a break soon," he began, meeting her gaze, That way, we can spend more time together."

Her face flushes and she shakes her head. "W-Wha? N-No, I c-can't possibly do that! I d-don't have any way of p-paying you back and..I don't w-want to be any more of a burden th-than I already am..." She mutters the last bit, looking down and clasping her hands together. Chikko didn't even bother to fix her hair, knowing it would only get messed up again.
Mako sheepishly rubbed the back of his head, "I- you won't be a bother," he said finally, knowing he was the last one to come to for comfort. But he really didn't see Chikko that way, and he knew Bolin wouldn't either. She was a nice girl with a lot to give. "You'd just have to sleep on the couch, if that's oka.." he paused, his face reddening in embarrassment. He knew about Chikko and her life and he almost felt like a jerk for saying that. Some nights, she'd probably do anything for a plain old "couch" to sleep on and here he was acting like it was a last resort. "Uh.. c-can you cook any?" he asked suddenly, changing the subject, "if so, how about this- we let you stay the night and you cook breakfast in the morning?" Finally, he looked back towards Chikko again. Maybe, this would make it easier for her to say yes, because he did understand not wanting to intrude on somebody when you had nothing to repay them with. He'd felt that way many of times. But then again, he didn't know if the younger had even an inkling of skill in the kitchen.

She listens to his words carefully. He was right. If she had stayed then she would have surely died. Her hair was even messier now from the wind and the sound of thunder rang off in the distance, marking that it would start raining soon. Chikko glances at a clock through her messy hair. It was getting late. "L-Listen...you sh-should probably head h-home now. I'm s-sorry about e-everything. D-Don't worry about me, o-okay? I'll be all r-right..."
Mako blinked at the clack of thunder, his eyebrows furrowing. He didn't want to part with Chikko yet, but he also didn't want to get caught up in a storm. Shifting his weight from one foot to another, he looked off to the side. His cheeks reddened as he spoke, "do you want to spend the night in the attic above the probending arena with Bo and I?" He knew Bolin would get the wrong idea, bringing a girl home randomly and letting her stay the night, but he would explain it all in the morning to stop any misunderstandings. More or less, before they got to Korra. She would understand, surely. "I mean- I'm sure everybody will understand. I can't let you stay out in the rain," he mused, finally glancing back at the younger. "What do you say?"

She rubs the hand that he gripped so forcefully, her eyes skimming over the jade bangles she wore. "I ch-chose to be homeless, M-Mako." Chikko sighs heavily. "My f-family is actually...v-very wealthy. But m-my mother passed a-away and my f-father began drinking. He t-tried to kill me and he b-blamed me for her death. S-So...I ran aw-way." The earthbender looks up at him, frowning. "P-Please don't be angry a-anymore."
Mako felt his hands clench into fists at his side. His jaw became tight and his bottom lip nearly bled from the way his upper teeth dug into it. What was she thinking saying that? That wasn't a choice, she didn't choose to be homeless, that was a last resort for her, which was totally different and he wanted her to realize that. "Chikko, you had no choice but to get away from there," he started, gazing into her eyes and searching for some sort of sense. He could tell she wasn't dumb, but she was dense, that much was true. "No matter what forced you to live this life, the important thing is you're living it," the wind picked up around them and if Chikko's hair was messy before, it was even worse now. "People can't say some homeless people have it worse off than others, that's.. that's not true. You can say this was your choice a hundred times, but I won't believe you. Something forced you to go this path, it wasn't a choice. And if you think it is.. you're wrong and just can't see that yet. Nobody would choose this life unless they had too."

Her cheeks stained slightly red, as he proceeded to Eskimo kiss her, making her giggle, "Mako, stop it. You are embarrassing me with all these compliments. If anything, I should be the one thats grateful. You are always there supporting me as the Avatar." She smiled, "Its thanks to you, that I'm stronger and getting more stronger everyday."
Mako hummed at her words, not really paying attention as he pressed several small kisses to her face. First, her nose then her forehead, and lastly her cheek, where he lingered a moment before switching over to her lips, giving them much more attention than the others. Finally, he spook, smiling a little. "Trust me, I have no play in how strong you get, that's all you." He loved Korra, and he did try his best to support her when he could, but her strength and her determination stemmed from inside her, and he knew, with him around or not, she could still be the world's best Avatar. "You're really something, Kor," he mused, giving a small shake of his head. "Never in my life did I think I would be with a girl like you," shifting his head upward, he gazed into the eyes parallel to his. "But boy, am I glad I am."

"W-Wait! I'm s-s-sorry! We d-don't have to! I-I promise that I'll l-look better!" She tries to fix her hair so that it wasn't so messy and then dusted off her top and smoothed out the wrinkles on her pants. Chikko felt so bad that she was messing this evening up. She might have even messed up Mako's later plans too. The earthbender forces a smile on her face.
Mako didn't stop walking until they were outside, and when he did, he turned around hastily, his face nearly red in anger. Not only was he angry at the customers inside, he even felt a spark of anger at the fact Chikko thought he would care if she looked of a certain standard or not. Anyway, it wasn't as if Chikko was that bad off. Her hair was a bit messy and her clothes were disheveled and a little dirty, but it wasn't all too bad. And she still looked pretty, which is something Bolin would say but not Mako, it just wouldn't be him. It was then he noticed he still had a grip on the thin girl's hand. A tight one, at that, and so he let go, feeling guilty at the way the mark arched a dull red. Breathing in, he knew he had to say something but he entirely didn't know what. He had just made an ass out of himself and he knew it. Turning to the side, he let the breath out in a sigh. "It's not you, Chikko. I just- I couldn't stand to let them treat you that way. I know what it's like to have people look down on you, simply for how you look or dress. They don't understand what we-" he caught himself and paused for a minute. Sometimes, he forgot he no longer had that life. "I mean, you go through. It's not as if you choose to live this way. It's not exactly a choice but I think those idiots don't always remember that."

codex-of-the-fandoms replied to your post: I know this is totally irrelevant to my blog and...
I missed it! What happened? I love him
Awww, I really don't want to spoil it because it was a good (but upsetting) episode. I would suggest you check it out as soon as you can.
But if you're dying to know, click "read more"-
(SPOILER ALERT) The girl Reid had been talking too is killed. It was horribly tragic as she was growing into a really good character, just to be killed off.

Her head snaps up and she shakes it frantically, her hair ruffling. "N-No, it's n-not that. I'm f-fine!" She sits up properly, trying to ignore the nagging whispers from the others. She could hear them comment on her looks. How dirty she looked. Her small, foul, and awful. It hurt her a lot the more she listened but she would try her hardest to endure it. At least for Mako's sake. he went through so much trouble even though she felt like she was embarrassing him at such a luxurious place.
Mako looked skeptical. Sighing, he decided not to press the subject and lifted one of the two menus that had been placed out for them. Even the menu was expensive, the design top notch and covered in burgundy flowers. About to flip it open, his eyes caught that of a stranger, who was staring over at them then whispering to a friend, he presumed. Slowly, his eyes narrowed and he understood why Chikko was acting the way she was. Upon being noticed, they stopped their staring but Mako's anger was still there, bubbling underneath the surface. Running his thumb over the menu, he created a scratch across the writing without realizing. Blinking, he put the menu down. "We're leaving," he said suddenly. Their waiter from earlier was close by and heard them, and rushed over, obviously not wanting to lose a customer, no matter their standing in society. "Is something not to your liking?" He inquired kindly. As much as he knew it wasn't the waiter's fault, Mako was still cruel to him as he snapped, "yes, this whole place." Pushing his chair out, he stood and reached over, grabbing Chikko's hand. "A place is only as good as it's customers," Mako snarled as he walked Chikko over to the stairs leading downstairs.

They followed the waiter as they were led through this...fancy place. It was so..unfamiliar. Her stomach tied into a knot and she shrunk back slightly as more and more of the higher class eye'd her dirty appearance. She couldn't help but feel as if she were insulting everyone by just being there. Chikko bows her head down and keeps her gaze on the floor, their staring wearing heavily on her.
Finally, the waiter came to a stop in front of a table with a couple vacant chairs around it. The table matched the restaurant in elegance as it was lined with a burgundy table cloth and there were two gold candles separated by a vast of flowers. Mako could tell the table was meant for a date, meaning the waiter obviously assumed the two were together in that manner. Chuckling, he didn't correct him, not wanting to put any stress on him by having to find a new table. He sat down across from Chikko and immediately noticed the way she was acting. Her face was hidden by her mass of hair and the only feature he could make out were her lips, which were pulled down in a nervous frown. Shifting, Mako turned towards the waiter. "Could you give us a couple minutes?" There was a nod and then the waiter was gone, leaving the two by themselves. "Are you not enjoying this? I thought you would.. It's suppose to be one of the best restaurants in Republic City.." he felt slightly disappointed that she didn't seem to like it as much as he had anticipated. "Do you want to go somewhere else?"

"A-Another place?" She was a little skeptical at first but chose to trust him on this. The only place she had really ever gotten the chance to eat at was Narook's but now she was going to an entirely new place? The little bender pulled at her collar slightly, growing slightly nervous. "A-Are you sure it's o-okay?"
Mako waved his hand at her uncertainty, cutting her off. "It's fine, Chi. I did say I was going to treat you, didn't I?" He started with a slight tilt of his head, "why treat you somewhere you can go by yourself anytime? This other place will definitely stick with you, it did with me," and Mako wasn't wrong. As they came up to the building, it was evident just from the outside that it was a higher class establishment. Lights illuminated the entrance and a waiter appeared just as you entered, smiling with an apron tied around their waist. Mako could feel Chikko tense up and he squeezed her wrist gently. "Don't be so nervous," he said comfortingly as the waiter told them the only open table was upstairs and allowed them to follow.

His sudden change in direction startles her and causes her to bump into him. She raises a confused eyebrow. "W-Wait, I thought we w-were eating at Narook's." Her hand rises to hold her glasses in place as she tries to keep up with him.
Mako shook his head before looking behind him at his company, a smile lifting either side of his lips. The place he had in mind now was much pricier than Narook's, but worth it, the food was great and the service even more-so. It was where Asami had taken him on their first date, and at the time, he had been so embarrassed around the others there as they were high class and he was anything but, but now, he doubted he would feel that way. Anyway, who would degrade a working cop, even if they were low on money? It was a little bit farther too, in the nicer part of the city, but even then, it would only be about fifteen minutes on foot. Mako was smart with his money most of the time, but just like anybody, there were times he needed to be a little carefree and simply have fun. "I have this other place in mind. It's much nicer and I'm sure you'll love it," he said, his smile growing a bit. "It's just a couple streets down."

She chuckled at him and playfully teased, "Oh, someone's gotten stronger and he even recognized me? I'm surprised. I mean it has been awhile. I thought you forgot me?" She laughed,"Well, I'm just glad you're back or was able to get some time to spend with me. Oh, and my Avatar training, piece of cake. Well sometimes, maybe, but I'm getting better at my airbending and the avatar state too." She placed a hand onto his cheek, "And how is my favorite firebender doing in his new job?"
Mako chuckled lowly, resting his forehead against Korra's. "I couldn't forget you even if I tried," he said playfully, giving her a quick kiss to the lips, which were oddly soft considering the cold weather. Pulling back, Mako listened as she continued to talk, all about her Avatar training. He took interest in her life, he really did, not just as her boyfriend but as a person. It took a lot to be the Avatar, and Mako knew and respected that. When she finished, it was with a question that made him grimace. "Ehhh.." he dragged out, sheepishly running his fingers through his dark and messy locks. "I'm doing okay," he said finally and it was the truth, Mako adjusted well to being a cop. But it still had it's downfalls, like any job would. "It's a little tough sometimes," he admitted. Sometimes, he'd rather stay at the station doing paperwork than go out and do the hard work. But of course, the latter paid much better. "But it's nothing I can't handle. Especially when I have you supporting me," he grinned, knocking their noses together in a lazy Eskimo kiss.

She looked over at him carefully, not recognizing him at first. He was dressed in his police uniform. It had been weeks since they last saw each other. She turned to him and smiled," Mako, is that you? Or is it someone else posing as you?" She playfully teased,"For awhile there, I thought you were someone else, not my boyfriend, cool guy. How have you been?"
Mako brightened up instantly upon seeing Korra. Not even answering her questions, he brought her into his arms, lifting her off the ground for a split second. Her body fit perfectly in his and he grinned widely, burying his face in the crook of her neck. "Kor, I'm sorry for being so busy lately," he mused softly, slowly pulling back so their eyes were at the same level. It had been weeks since he last saw her and he had almost forgotten the color of her eyes, the eyes he loved so much. Her beautiful turquoise hues met his amber ones, and he couldn't push away the grin on his face. "I could say the same about you though, you've been occupied with all your Avatar duties."
