and like the other thing about severance that's been making me bonkers is the fact that doing shit you don't want to do is good for you actually. There's that whole plot-line from season one about the senators wife and how she was severed to avoid the stress of giving birth, and like there's a myriad of things wrong w that-- the biggest of which being 1) you've undergone a permanent procedure that involves putting a chip in your brain and you will now never be able to recall the memory of your children's births. AND 2) you've created a being who's only purpose is to give birth. She will never know her children and someday when you're done having kids she'll straight up die. There have been many things in my life I wish I didn't have to go through or that I didn't remember but at the end of the day, I couldn't ever bring a being into this world, that is for all intents and purposes me, and then force them to go through everything I don't want to. That's like a new kind of Evil.

something i've noticed that has become really annoying in the past 10 years or so is this fad of what i've been calling, for lack of a better word, "structural whataboutism." it's that thing where, when faced with a concrete, resolvable problem in your community, your answer is to blame it on a vast, unsolvable issue of structural inequality and then throw up your hands. "there's trash all over the ground in this corner of the park" becomes "well, that's where MEN OF COLOR congregate after their 12-HOUR GRAVEYARD SHIFTS and i'm not going to support a CARCERAL SOLUTION to a CAPITALISTIC PROBLEM. WE NEED TO ELIMINATE POVERTY AND THE SUBJUGATION OF THE WORKING CLASS" and it's like okay but sis. someone still has to go pick up the trash. we don't need a carceral solution, we need more trash cans. you're not going to eliminate poverty and the subjugation of the working class and even if ya did, there would still be trash on the ground. how any of this passes for radicalism within their peer groups i simply don't understand. it's radical laziness more than anything else

when I was in high school my dad was speeding like crazy because I was running late to my job at the cemetery. and the cop who pulled him over gave him three whole tickets because who the hell goes 95 in a 25??? but then, when my dad went to court the cop didn’t show, and so the judge looked over at the charges and just couldn’t believe it. he thought the cop must’ve been so racist that he made it up because who the hell goes 95 in a 25? so my dad got all 3 tickets dismissed bc of racism. that he didn’t even experience because he was in fact going 95 in a 25.
