So I thought this would happen all along. I was hopeful and did my part but deep down I always knew.

Americans want to be allowed to be angry at each other. They want to be able to do what they want without repercussions. They only want to be in it for themselves. They want to do their own research. They don’t want to have to listen to people smarter than them. They don’t want to have to trust people different than them. They don’t want to be better because they always thought they were the best. The algorithm managing the screen in their hand reinforces all this and worse. They voted for the person who thinks the same way as they do rather than the person they think looks down on them.

Those of us who want to live in a society that welcomes other ideas and approaches and beliefs and cultures are outnumbered. Those of us who see problems and accept that we have to do better have to make improvements on our own. It’s awful but that’s what this country always has been. It’s just more obvious now because a cartoon king of our worst attributes was elected, again.
