Candle magick - what different types of candle flames mean
Link to candle magick - what different types of candle smoke mean
Link to candle magick- what different types of candle wax means
Good clean burn - candle burns evenly & cleanly
Generally, uneventful candle burnings are a good sign. When the candle burns without a lot of smoke, movement, noise, or dripping, your spellwork is going as planned. The results will manifest as expected. (Though not, perhaps, as quickly or dramatically as you might like.)
Strong flame - tall, bright candle flame
There is a lot of energy behind your spell. Barriers to your success are quickly falling away. A fast, happy result is likely.
Small, steady flame - small & steady
A low-burning flame indicates less energy is fueling the spell. A small but steadily burning flame is still a good sign—though it signals a need for patience and focus. A positive result is likely, though there may be a delay. Be persistent and keep your eye on the goal. If the candle flame increases in size during the working, it means the energy behind the spell is growing.
Small, weak candle flame - tiny flame
A small flame that flickers and bends is not a great sign in candle magick. The timing of the working could be wrong. Or you could be asking for an outcome that is unlikely or unfavorable in the long run. If the small flame falters or drowns in the melted wax, that is a sure sign that your petition will not be granted at this time.
Dancing flame - Candle flame moves or dances.
An erratic, dancing flame signifies high energy in a spell—but also chaotic energy. A large dancing flame suggests success, but with potential complications. A small one means the spell may be overwhelmed by opposing forces. There may be other wills consciously or unconsciously working against you. Watch the flame closely to see if its shape or motion reveals anything to you.
Flickering flame - Rapidly flickering candle flame.
Sometimes a candle flame will dim and brighten, dim and brighten, as if someone is flicking a light switch. In some folk magick traditions, a flickering candle flame is a certain indicator that spirits are present. If the candle is being used for devotional work (e.g. with gods, angels, or higher spirit guides), it means that the invocation was successful and your prayers are being acknowledged. A flickering candle flame is mildly trance-inducing, so you can use it as an opportunity to scry the fire for additional insights.
Popping flame - Candle pops or sputters.
A noisy candle indicates communication with (or interference by) outside forces. An uneven burn can signal that someone or something is working against you. Add more concentration and energy to the spell. (Or withdraw if you sense the resistance is too great.) Hisses, sputters, and whistles are sometimes said to carry messages from ancestors and spirits—try listening to them and hearing what they say.
Candle goes out - The flame suddenly goes out.
The working is finished. A stronger opposing force has put an end to it. You should open the circle, ground yourself, and leave it be. Usually this means that your petition or spell—whatever it may be—will not manifest. However, in some cases, it can mean that the objective of the working has already been attained.
Candle will not go out
A candle flame that stubbornly stays lit means, “Sit down—you’re not done.” Perhaps you skipped a step or missed some important message during your candle magick ritual. Some helpful spirit or guide is nudging you to go back for what you forgot. When you feel that it has been settled, try extinguishing the candle again. Traditionally, spell candles are pinched or snuffed out—never blown.
Candle will not light at all
This spell cannot help you win the result you seek. The outcome may have already been decided, or be outside of your control. Take some time (days or weeks) to refocus your intention before trying again. (You can do a divination instead to find out more about what is blocking you.) Meditation and spiritual cleansing may be required before you can proceed with the spell.

Mini-Spells
To weigh a person down, take a picture of them, write their full name and birth date on the back of it. On the front, write a petition calling for them to be weighed down, broken, hopeless and forlorn. On a tuesday, during the night, bury the photo head downwards and place a heavy stone on it saying: The burden's place, its on your shoulders. So long as this rock stays on this dirt, so too shall the rock of bane stand on your shoulders. So mote it be.
To cause someone to drown in misery, feel hopeless or lost, take a photo of them, write their full name on the back and on the front the petition, fold it a few times away from you. FInd a good rock of decent size and bind the picture to it with black thread. Wrap it in a small rag and bind it again with black thread. If desired, run it through incense made of parsley while saying a prayer against the person (one can say a prayer of the Reversed Lord's Prayer). After that, throw it into a river or stagnant water, letting it sink to the bottom. Give an offering of a coin to the spirits of the river.
To remove a spell. On a saturday evening, take a stone and hold it in your left hand. Say a prayer or incantation asking for the spell upon you to be removed. Take the stone and rub it over you from the top of your head, across your arms, down your feet and back up to the top of your head. Thereafter, place it in a bowl underneath the bed for the night. On a sunday morning, as the sun is rising, place the stone at a crossroads far away from the home, giving a coin, drink or sweet to the spirit of the Crossroads.
Wash the hands in chamomile tea to bring good luck in business ventures, gambling and all forms of financial work.
Wash the altar in jasmine tea to attract wise and helpful spirits, so too can you cover candles in olive oil and jasmine (taken from a teabag if the flowers are not available) or burn it as an incense during meditations. It can also be used as a bath prior to spiritual work or divination.
Use mint or basil leaves to asperge for attracting wealth and blessings, basil leaves to ward off ghosts and malefica, chamomile or lavender for peace and curse breaking, an oak branch for protection, good fortune and strength, a rose for love, harmony and peace, a red rose over the bed to attract a lover, rue for exorcisms and cleansings.
Place a clove of garlic in the four corners of the home to protect against unwanted spirits and harm.
Rub protection oil on the doorknob of the front door for protection against thieves, intruders, people with harmful intent and so on.
To make a person blind to you, or to afflict them with the evil eye, stab a needle into their eyes on their photo. To silence them, sew the mouth shut.
Black Pepper, Salt and Mother-in-Law make a fricking good combination for hexing - especially when you want to cause irritation, annoyance and conflict... tried and true.

When to Consult Divination
You're stuck in the decision-making process and want help thinking through it from a different angle.
You need to sort out your thoughts. Divination is good for breaking out of a circular thought process and approaching it in a different way.
You want something to focus and reflect on for the coming day/month/chapter in your life.
You need a second opinion on something spiritual.
You want something to aid your planning process by suggesting steps and strategies
You want advice for how to tackle a situation.
When NOT to Consult Divination
You're fishing for a specific answer and just want something to validate you. Your bias WILL get in the way of the truth.
You want very specific details about a future that hasn't happened yet. (What will my husband be like? When will I meet him? How many kids will I have?)
You want to know what someone is thinking/feeling/hiding. Literally just communicate with them.
Asking if you should break up with someone. It's like Googling "am I gay quiz." If you're at this point you already know the answer.

I dunno who needs to hear it, but if you're relying on binding spells and hexes to keep yourself safe, that's fine, but a can of mace is basically just extra strength war water and a restraining order is a binding spell that happens to be legally binding as well. Similarly, ash wood is traditional for both wands and baseball bats. Rub some sage on it and hex a motherfucker's kneecaps if that's what keeps you safe.
The world sucks. Do what you gotta.

This meme is a MURDER ATTEMPT.
I am absolutely fucking serious. The original meme, without the big red denial, is someone's attempt to fucking kill people.
There is NO SAFE DOSAGE of pennyroyal oil. Even Mother Earth News says there's no reason to use pennyroyal essential oil for ANYTHING, even topically or as a fragrance, for fuckssake! That should give you some idea about how dangerous it is!
Pennyroyal tea, plant matter in hot water, is a traditional abortifacient. It is *incredibly* dangerous, induces abortion by bringing the body close to organ failure (and frequently pushing the system right over the edge, because dosage is impossible to meter), but I would drink a gallon of it before I took a half-teaspoon of pennyroyal essential oil.
Two teaspoons, taken across 48 hours, has successfully killed someone.
Three teaspoons taken as a single dosage killed the consumer within THREE HOURS.
There is NO SAFE DOSAGE! FOR PENNYROYAL OIL INTERNALLY! NONE!
The person who made this meme is PURPOSEFULLY, ACTIVELY, trying to get desperate people killed!

Pinpath
An ode to my sewing needle
How many miles does she skip? Bifrost tail trailing neatly, Behind an un-seeing eye, Blind to what she weaves, But sure in her punctured path
Could she measure her own trek? More traveled than most, Making highway hours fly, Mending as she creates, Mundane to all but myself
Does she know of my owed love? Eons of ancestral pulled fibre, Echoed humanity in napped ivory, Ebbing steel between fingertips, Ends pulled stitch-tight,
Sealed with a knotted kiss.

Some plant lore from the region
- with many thanks to all friends, relatives, and acquaintances who have contributed!
Carrying some dried burning nettle (Urtica dioica) in a small bag will give you strength.
Fennel seeds (Foeniculum vulgare) can be included in the abitino (which in this region some places is called breo) if you are prone to get the evil eye.
Also in the abitino (a white one), you can put a bay leaf (Laurus nobilis) that is picked or bought a Friday for luck.
Wild rose (Rosa canina) can be used to keep witches and other bad influences away, especially among the livestock.
If you sit under or in the shade of a walnut tree (Juglans regia), the witches who gather there might grab you and whisk you off to Corsica.
Carry on you an adder’s-tongue (Ophioglossum vulgatum) that has been picked in May, and you will get to know other people’s secrets.
Yellow fleabane (Dittrichia- or Inula viscosa) is good for lighter exorcisms. You can use it to wash your children with when they are being unruly or “bad”, to remove the demons in them.
Bunches of winter savory (Satureja montana) - the whole plant, including the roots - can be dried and hung upside down in the bedroom to drive away spirits.
Before you go to sleep, rub your chest with a mixture of water and vinegar in which you have macerated rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) you will dream about your future spouse or partner in love.
Mash some fresh green melissa (Melissa officinalis) and mix it with sap from cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), keep it on you in a small glass bottle, and it will make you lovable and repel enemies.
ETA: The region in question is Tuscany, Italy, where I lived when the post was made!
