The Iron Fist Tournament. ❞ Zetterburn had heard of the competition, battle for sport was rare in his homeworld of Aether (believe it or not), his combat prowess was usually pushed to protect his world from Abyss Monsters threatening the Firelands. In other words, Zett was battle-hardened in real fights where his life was actually threatened. The none-lethal King of Iron Fist should be a cakewalk for the lion.

❝   You seem to be very troubled, tell me, is something on your mind?   ❞ The prince had been prompted by nothing more than his curiosity.

Was it that obvious ? Then again, when something is constantly in his head, filling his brain with doubt until it's ready to blow, it made it difficult to appear fine on the outside. Jin turned his head away.

" Yeah... I do. & it won't shut up, " was his vague answer.

❝   Gaah!   ❞  Zetterburn shriveled up, blocking what forcefully sprayed water he could out of his face with his paw and obviously not being able to use his powers while his fur was wet.  ❝   C-cut it out!   ❞

The lion prince tried to alight, but the water that soaked him currently acted as a blockage to his pyrokinetic abilities. Frequent battles with Orcane of Merchant Port meant that Zetterburn had been often wet more than he’d like to admit in his life. ⸻But he hated water all the same.

The Kindling (Zetter’s powers) was not a toy. It shouldn’t be treated as one. This is why his birthright belonged to him and not the Pure Heart Valley monarch before him.

Zetterburn rolled up his left shoulder. His fists clenched and his mane’s flame remaining neutralized for now dispite his emotional state. 

Zett brought this on himself, ─should have keeped his mouth shut on whatever satisfying noise the Cotton Candy lion would make upon being punched, but the Firelands prince couldn't help himself

How do you take care of that (literally!) fiery mane of yours? I get the impression that traditional hairstyling tools probably wouldn't be very effective, and hairspray or other chemicals could be outright dangerous to use.

While that wasn't too invasive of a question on it's own. The truthful answer made Zetterburn have to weigh the costs of how much he was willing to reveal about himself and what he does in private.

❝ Truth be told this is the first I'm hearing that commoners take care of their fur using flammable chemicals of all things. Even in my mane's current state, that would become problematic once things got heated ~🔥. ❞ He flashed his fangs.

The lion sounded dull, believe it or not Zetterburn was less interested in an Aetherian history lesson if it had nothing to do with his beloved Firelands/Capital specifically. ⸻Granted, the focus was on the origin of his powers, and frankly he always enjoyed talking about himself. 

❝ The ancestral source of all Elementals powers comes from a fountain and hotbed location of supernatural power known as The Aetherial Gates. ❞

The same Aetherial Gates that also housed the eldritch beast known as The Abyss. But Zetterburn opted not to mention it, less he confuse the large rat any further.

"What the hell are you supposed to be? Some greek wannabe?" Bellum asked as he saw the fiery lion. He couldn't help himself. His attitude and his mouth were the first things to act before his brain could stop the rebellious parts of what Bellum was!

❝ The crown prince of the Firelands is a wannabe nothing! ❞ Zetterburn growled at the red Umbreon, his audacity will not be tolerated within his empire.

❝ Speak your name, red one, you are out of line. ❞ Zetterburn didn’t know what a Greece was. He could only assume it was another nation within Aether. While the lion tried to speak with diplomacy and tolerance, Zetter's fiery mane let Bellum know of the danger the young Pokémon was in, should he push Zetter's nerves anymore.

❝ Lion... ❞ Zetterburn rolled his eyes. He was proud of being a feline but the only reason anyone would point it out the way she did was to belittle his masculinity.   ─can't have that.

❝ Please miss. I'm sure you mean no offense, but I am much more than just a ⸻cat. ❞ Zetterburn brushed his mane as an example. While still a blazing red color his mane was not literally blazing. Which was kinda rare for him, letting his flames flow freely came as natural to him as his breath did.

I wanna slightly update my portrayal of Zett because Dan Fornace posted a super hype gif on Twitter a little over a week ago. lol

Zetterburn’s mane and tail only light on fire when he’s actually using fire moves. When not using fire moves they’re just regular fur.

Obviously this won’t effect my icons for the most part cause frankly it’s just way easier to icon him how he’s been visually portrayed for the last 7 years. But soon enough I will try to make actual icons to reflect this update, cause I honestly think it’s a really cool idea and I prefer it.

Counterintuitive for living in the cold north? Zett would call it a tactical, ⸻if not an evolutionary  adaptation and could explain why:

❝ .. Well.... how else would one survive in the North Pole without lots of warm.... flaming fur. ❞ Zett hardy laughes (not unlike Santa Claus), before patting Junior on the head. ❝ Junior, it's me, Zetterburn. ❞

The lion’s straightforward character could only pull Junior’s leg for so long.

❝ You’re very small. ❞ Zetterburn could state the painfully obvious too. It wasn’t hard, he just needed 2 funtioning eyeballs to do it.

❝ I’m not ON fire. I am the fire. A dragon does not succumb to it’s own flames. The same holds true for my mane. ❞ The fire prince was starting to get fatigued at having to explain this to every feline he came across. He missed his homeland of Aether more and more everyday, War-torn or not.

Zett said in a jokey manner. Even Snug-butt couldn’t make him un-jovial in December. Frankly Christmas was a time that even Zetterburn smiled more.

❝ Prince Zetterburn. You’re a royal blood? ❞  Zetterburn truly had no idea he was talking to royalty from another nation until now. Though what on Aether was a koopa?

❝ So you must be a koopa. ❞ 

Zett wondered if they all looked like miniature dragons with spikey shells.

❝ It’s a pleasure, young prince.  ❞ Zetterburn looked around the koopa kingdom he had found himself in, his mane providing it's own light piercing through the reddish-purple night sky. To his surprise, everyone else looked much more turtle-like than Junior.

❝ This is a beautiful kingdom you have here. Would I be able to step into your castle so I may marvel? ❞ ⸻Other royals were welcome right? Zett wasn’t a simple commoner.

❝ It IS fire, child, the real deal. ❞ The blazing prince grinned, baring his teeth. The small shelled-creature before him looked somehow very familiar but Zetterburn didn’t pay it much thought. He was sure he hadn’t met Bowser Jr. yet.

❝ Back where I come from. I am the sovereign of a nation of fire, manes and whatnot that can produce fire are common place among my people, to put it simply, we all have these powers. ❞ ⸻and they were all so awesome. It’s why everyone in Aether bowed before The Fire Capital’s awesome might.

Junior looked amazed at the fact that the lion’s hair was real fire. How could that be possible? What kind of animal was he? 

“Sovereign? Nation of Fire? That’s so cool!!” the young prince said, wondering how that place looked like. “I’d love to visit that Nation someday!” Junior said with a big smile. “Oh! I’m Bowser Jr.! Junior, for short! I’m the Koopa Prince! Prince of the Koopa Kingdom!” he explained. “What’s your name, mister?”
