I agree that this community isn't very beginner friendly, whether you try to make your graphics and account look decent or even aesthetically pleasing. I've seen some posts by some users in which they have decent graphics but it doesn't get to even 1/4 of as much some other creators get so it's not the fact some people don't make an effort

and I agree graphics aren't that hard to do, I learned to do it on my own but the difference is many big creators use photoshop so the ones that use knockoffs like adobe, ibis or photopea will never be able to make something as great no matter how hard they practice 😭

about to sound kinda harsh but this is lowkey getting annoying because the fic is genuinely one of the few places where you can suck and no one really give a fuck lmao 😭 idk why yall are using your own insecurities about your graphics, which are not even supposed to be the main focus of your blog, it's supposed to be the writing, to discourage yourselves from posting and blaming it on, again, a fairly welcoming and open community.

truly, there are several "big" creators who don't have the craziest graphics and still retain an audience because of the characters. you have to actually post and have a likeable character to get traction which i fear yall just aren't doing or your expectations are too high for your note count.

here's the note counts of several different "big" accounts from the past five days, but a typical note count from a new creator who's actually giving something of substance will look smaller, like, max ten notes until they built up a stronger foundation.

also, sorry, i disagree with that last statement as i've seen crazy amazing graphics made on photopea as it is very similar to photoshop. yall have already cut yallselves short with this notion that you won't be as good as other creators, which is truly the root of yalls problem, because you don't use adobe products and that simply isn't true. if it matters that much to you and your skills development, there's a billion photoshop cracks out there you can try, but genuinely if you're insecure in your work or are only care about breaking 20 notes, i don't think that will help you that much.

the anon about aesthetics also had me thinking if you're not writing and your account isn't visually appealing ( and i don't even mean crazy outrageous graphics even a little formatting can go along away) then what are you offering creatively to your audience? a lot of people in the community that are good writers and designers have been here for a long time and spent the time to get better. why can't you?

this may be stirring the pot , and i am so sorry if it is. i do not believe ai has any reason to be used in a creative space. it really is not that hard to find photos to fit your album covers or make a silly little graphic for your writing headers. i will always stand by the notion that ai is killing creativity.

please pick up the pencil. please open up the photopea (a free alt for photoshop, if you haven't heard of it before /srs). please open up the google doc. please do whatever you need to do to be creative EXCEPT open up chatgpt or gemini.

i mean ai usage in the fic space is more common than people want to admit... basically every lightstick design was made through ai, even by 'big' blogs run by people who are skilled in graphic design

i dont really see what anon was on abt with the graphics. if your fav group released two physical vers of an album and one was ai slop or a picsart collage and the other had a nice graphic we all know which one would sell better. ppl like visually appealing things, which take practice and skill to make for a reason. if yours are lacking, consider watching some tutorials or experimenting

another thing is the community is very divided as well like the fictional idol community : fictional group vs addition

and noticeably so, fictional additions are way more popular. I thought it was because some people of the fandoms pretend theyre the oc's to get more content about their favorite idols but i find them to be even more popular than most oc fanfictions on tumblr, i wonder why?

for the reason you already said, projection. which is not a bad thing! but additions tend to get more notes because you're writing rpf instead of a completely fictionalized story if that make sense. like, way more people will tune in to watch a txt addition have drama with soobin than tuning into a fic's group's drama simply because they know txt and are already invested. you kinda have an audience pre-built in when you write additions.

I think there’s a big emphasis on aesthetics.

That is not bad because of course you want what you’re making to look nice and there are some people here who really BLOW ME AWAY with their editing skills, but I think because it seems that aesthetics play such a big part, if someone (particularly newer blogs) aren’t so good at editing or their formatting isn’t especially pleasing it can make it harder for them to find an audience.

I am kind of mixed on this opinion tho because the way you present your blog can also be a small teaser to your idol or group, so I see this side both ways.
