The idea that men cannot be abused, or that it is not as serious as women who are abused stems directly from the toxic, patriarchal belief that men are stronger than women, and more violent. For the same reasons that women abused by other women are not taken seriously, men abused by other men are not taken seriously. And men abused by women are often openly mocked and shunned instead of helped. The reality is that men and women are equally capable of being abusive, and the victims need to be taken seriously regardless of gender.
