Hound Skull Helmet dated around 1390 from Northern Italy on display at the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin, Germany

The helm has its name after the pointedly pointed visor, which resembles a dog’s snout, and after the cowl, a pointed fabric hood. The pointed visors became common during the 14th century and provided more ventilation for the wear while the visor was down.
