Florida just like in the movies: The most cult locations The film set for Hobbingen was a piece of farmland outside the small town of Matamata, which is just under two hours' drive south of Auckland. The vast steppes and grasslands around the Mackenzie region were also used for the outdoor scenes of Rohan. The rest of the day is at your own disposal. Visit the interactive "Te Papa" museum and follow in the footsteps of the Maori or stroll through the popular Cuba Street or the Botanical Garden with its cable car. The tour through New Zealand starts right away with one of the biggest highlights and takes you to Hobbingen, the idyllic home of Frodo, Bilbo and Co. Explore original locations from the "Hobbit" like Bag End and Sam and Rosie's cottage and remember your favourite scenes from the movies. In Wilcox Green the scene was shot on the sword fields. Imitations of 9 and 18 carat gold can be purchased. The Wellington Kaitoke Regional Park became Rivendell, where Frodo recovered from the knife attack. The path to the overgrown clearing in the forest is signposted.
