Oh this is beautiful!

First stab at a Proper Animatic™! Is it any good? Who knows! The point is I FINISHED IT. Anyway, Kayne is my favorite Malevolent guy, love how expressive he sounds, and I wanted to draw some faces. Then, because I entirely lack restraint, I failed at narrowing down which section to try to animatic at. So I threw up my hands and committed to attacking the entire scene. All 5+ minutes of it.

This is a pretty interesting take! Honestly, I think it's kinda part of why I find them such an interesting couple. Their situation is so awful and they both really suck as people. ESPECIALLY at the start.

It's a dynamic that I would never wish on anyone in reality but watching them argue and grow. And watching Arthur begin to take accountability for John's situation is very interesting. Also, (spoilers) the confrontation with Yellow in the 4th season is so painful.

Just. I really like how fucked up they are. And how they are able to grow and better themselves.

And how it's definitely not just John being toxic, Arthur is really bad at times.

Sticking my toes in the pirahna cove here but romantic Private Eyes, at least in the canon body sharing, really needs to be viewed more unanimously through the lens of their insane power imbalance.

We saw just how much abuse Arthur inflicted on Yellow, and almost all of that abuse was reliant on the power, both physical and emotional, that Arthur held over him. He flat out denied Yellow the possible opportunity to seperate because he was on a murder suicide spree, and repeatedly refused to acknowledge his existence in any way beyond what necessary for his survival. This isn't even touching the verbal abuse.

And he has, more subtly but still has, done a lot of the same to John. John's lack of autonomy and control have both been touched on multiple times, but I feel like it really needs to be hammered home that he has no possible out when things get agressive between him and Arthur. He could stop narrating and leave him blind, but Arthur's proven himself capable of navigating at least to a survival degree. He could attack Arthur, but obviously can't do very much damage and could be retalliated against in devastating ways. He has no way of leaving the situation, no way of seeking help, and no real way to defend himself. Even in situations where he is able to speak with someone, like Noel, Arthur doesn't have to repeat his actual words, and John would more or less have no way to convey that.

Yes, he is. He's said and done things which Arthur shouldn't have forgiven him so quickly for, he's deeply flawed person who regularly lashes out and causes harm. That doesn't change anything i've said so far

The study consists of a 15-minute phone call (or email if that feels too difficult) and a 20-minute online questionnaire.

Through this research we hope to develop a better understanding of the relationship between fear of losing control and anxiety.

Okay so I can't be the only one who cries at this scene because of Bella dying alone and in pain (I cry about her a lot actually)

And then Arthur proceeding to say that his plans on leaving Bella with a child (in the 1920s KNOWING the she'd probably have to turn to the father she hates for help) isn't the thing that brought him shame. It wasn't even leaving her to die scared and alone and in pain that brought him shame- it was leaving Faroe alone for an hour. He says 'even my own self loathing knows it was wrong' but that doesn't mean Bella deserved to go through any of that alone?? In the 1920s??? ARTHURRR 😭😭 GIRLLL

Now, think about Arthur's death in part 43, I think his death parallels Bella's with him being uh pregnant???? Can we even call it that?? 😭 Anyway in a way, we could sort of see that as punishment for his past actions and his refusal fully acknowledge how he treated Bella was screwed up (even during the relationship, but Arthur doesn't realise this until Daniel points it out to him)

The difference is Arthur had John, and John didn't give up on him like he did with Bella all those ago

And of course John didn't give up on him. That dude LOVES Arthur but it also makes me think of when Arthur tells him that he loved Bella but it still felt wrong, and John responds by saying didn't understand- and think all comes together in part 43 and *gets shot*

BELLA COME HERE I'LL DEFEND YOU

- also side note: The illusions to childbirth in this season have been interesting, I hope we get more Bella content 🙏 mwah I love you Bella
