Line of succession to the former Russian throne before the Russian Revolution.
The Romanov family (1613 - 1917)
Nicholas II was the last Tsar of Russia, ruling for 22 years and 4 months, from 1894 until 1917. He belonged to the House of Romanov, who ruled Russia for 304 years until the Russian Revolution, which forced the abdication of Nicholas II followed by the abolishment of the Russian monarchy, completely ending the Romanovs rule in 1917.
Many of the individuals on this list died childless; some were killed during the Russian Revolution.

Ludwig IV and Tatiana Nikolaevna: Grandfather and Granddaughter. They never met, as he passed before she was born. She resembles him a lot in my opinion 🤍

“I would like to go to Russia very much - although the bastards murdered half my family”.
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, When asked in 1967 if he’d like to visit the Soviet Union.
Alexandra was Philip’s Great-Aunt, his Grandmother Victoria of Hesse was her older sister. He never met his Romanov Cousins, as they were murdered three years before he was born, though his older sisters met them and there are multiple photographs of them together. His DNA was used to help identify the remains of Alexandra and her children when they were found in the woods near Yekaterinburg.

11 Regi Posta Uteza III
Budapest
12th November 1913
My dear Madam,
Many happy returns of your birthday. I hope you will spend a beautiful day. Now you are growing I so wonder what height you are, and what you are like. A friend sent me a post-card with you and Tatiana Nicolaievna’s picture on it. You were both in Court dresses and with long trains and it made me think of the little things you were when first I saw you, so many years ago now. But I have never forgotten a day of those nearly six years I spent with you. It was the happiest, indeed, the one happy time of my life, and it is amazing how long one lives when one has no real desire to live.
I lost my dear mother in August and her death has left a great blank in my life. I have so few left now who care for me, for whom I care.
I am right about the naughtiest boy I have ever seen. He is nearly 10 years of age and he cannot speak the truth about any thing. And he has a violent temper. He nearly killed me recently, and he meant to do it. His father won’t allow him to be chastened, because he says he must never learn to obey. He says the child is a born leader of men and so must never be made to obey. My own opinion of the child is something far different. In 18 months I am his fifth Governess, and I have been six months with him. Best I suffer to have my thanks.
Budapest is generally considered a beautiful town. Now I don’t think it nearly so beautiful as either St Petersburgh or Moscow. Some parts of Hungary are very lovely, but I think poor little Ireland far more attractive. But the difficulty of Ireland is that people are obliged to leave it to find work etc. There are no openings there for any one except farmers. Very few of my family are there now. Some are in Canada, some in Australia, some in India, for England’s great dominions are all over the world, so I am hoping that this government may be [illegible] before they can give us Home Rule, it is better to belong to the great Empire, and it would be very bad for the country if a civil war broke out, and bad for my co-religionists if Home Rule came to pass.
I Winter is just beginning. We had 3 below zero yesterday morning. Winter is generally short here, and in April and May it is really warm. Hungary has a very good climate and I have got over my accident very well. Indeed I never even think of it now.
I wonder as you still remember me a little bit, or have you quite forgot.
We are busy with a bazaar for the Esquire Home and I am dressing a dollie as a Russian peasant for it. I think she will look nice when finished.
I should be so happy if you would send me a photo of the 4 of you. I buy postcards whenever I can get them.
Give my love to the sisters and my humble respects to Papa and Mamma, to whom I wish all good for herself and family.
Your loving old Nana

Tell me about YOUR favourite historical figure and what it is you like about them the most 😄 (also any images are added bonus 🙏🙏)
Bullet points on why I love Felix Yusupov so much, because otherwise I'd be here all night:
Oddly enough not the "killing Rasputin" thing, though he did do that
His general incompetence over anything and everything.
He did drag and crossdressing when he was younger and did performances. His exact gender identity is unknown, mainly due to lack of terminology during the time, but he was gender-spicy for certain.
Raging bisexual and considerably open about it in his memoirs for the time period.
Loves his wife. Turns into a bumbling mess whenever he writes about her. She was a badass btw. I can't blame him.
Killed Rasputin WITH the help of his lover, Dmitri. Pretty sure those two shacked up afterwards.... but you know.
He actually planned to do a lot of charitable work with his family's money and estates, including opening museums and restoring wetlands and such, but the other nobles hated the fuck out of this idea and also the revolution kind of forced him out of the country before he could try.
Pathetic. Absolute fool.
According to his own accounts of the assasination, he passed out and fell down the stairs after killing rasputin. This is why he wasn't there when they disposed of the body. All adaptations omit this event.
His memoir Lost Splendor is marketed as "the amazing memoirs of the man who killed rasputin" but it is only 20% about rasputin and 80% random shit he pulled as a kid. Tom Sawyer type shit. This book is genuinely one of the most entertaining things I think I have ever read. One day I might make a comic adaptation.
Pretty sure this man had ADHD. The symptoms are all there...
The first time I kissed a girl was because I was having an autistic info-dumping session on this dude and she thought it was super hot 🔥
Some of my fav pics include:
This goofy cropped one (its one of our discord emojis lmao). His little squint is so funny to me ahshdhshhs

This photo is just very charming. 10/10. My current computer background. Also a discord emoji.

These two i just find to be cute ::3 I really love photos of him with his wife, Irina, because again she was a baddie. Also I'm such a sucker for photos of people working.

This last one I just really like because it's very fun and playful. The boy on right is Felix as a tot, and the other on the left is his brother, Nicholas (I really love Nicholas auuughhh).
The right photo is the original postcard scan, and the left is a version I did as photo restoration practice ::]

Prince Albert Victor's birth
Tumblr media
Alix with baby Eddy, 1864
"At ten minutes to nine in the evening, with no aid of chloroform, the Princess of Wales gave birth to a son who weighed in at only three and three-quarter pounds. Alix told Lady Macclesfield she thought the child was smaller than one of her puppies. Word was sent to Victoria at Osborne...
"She sent these words to her daughter Vicky in Berlin after seeing her first Wales grandchild for the first time:
"'This dear little boy has a very pretty little well-shaped round head, with very good features, a nice forehead, a very nice marked nose, beautiful little ears and pretty little hands.'
"As she would later do with all of her male grandchildren, Victoria demanded the name Albert be included amongst the list of names given the new baby. She intended Bertie to one day reign as Albert I and this new baby to rule one day as Albert II. British history, however, did not support her determination. No English or Scottish king had ever bore this name and Bertie had no intention of fulfilling his mother's plans. Both Bertie and Alix naturally resented this intrusion into their parental rights. When the time came, despite their antipathy, the parents dutifully named their baby son Albert Victor but he was always known within his immediate family as Eddy even though, officially, his first two baptismal names honored both Prince Albert and the queen as she demanded."
