He approached Alph (who was currently under five blankets, thanks to the Captain) and sat the bowl in front of him, placing a spoon next to it. He had already given him medicine - he doubted it was already beginning to work, but the question was still asked, and the Captain rested a hand against the other’s forehead to check his temperature.

           ❝ Still burnin’ up, ❞ he sighed out, placing a hand on his hip. He gestured to the bowl of soup. ❝ Eat up while it’s still hot. I made it with super shrooms, so ya should start feeling better ‘n no time.

     The Captain was about to snap at the other for the belittling term, but then he asked the magic question, and all of his anger disappeared.

           ❝ I sure am! Captain Toad, leader of tha Toad Brigade, at your service! ❞ he chirped out, hands fixed proudly on his hips. He was going to give his usual “you haven’t heard of me?” comment, but he decided he wouldn’t show that much ego to a stranger today.

     The Captain sighed as he sat the steaming bowl in front of the meerkat, expression equal parts concerned and exasperated. The irritation wasn’t aimed at Timon - he had always gotten annoyed when the flu had hit one of his brigade members since it delayed their journey, especially when they were low on supplies. Luckily he had packed plenty of super mushrooms, and truly, he didn’t mind losing one if it would help the other feel better.

           ❝ Shroom soup, ❞ he said as he sat down, leaning against his backpack. ❝ You’ll feel right as rain in no time, trust me. ❞

The tyke looked as the Captain checked on the map. The toad seemed to know perhaps more than he could. Upon the question, Junior smiled widely and nodded. “YES! SURE I AM!” he replied happily. 

“In fact, I brought my favorite bag with some useful stuff!” Junior said, showing the Captain a bag he brought, filled with some notebooks, pencils and other stuff. It even had Junior’s favorite bottle to fill with water. 

“So where is this map pointing to? Do you know the place? I really don’t remember a place with those descriptions…” the prince asked, curious about what the Captain knew.

     ★→ The Captain couldn’t help but chuckle at the prince’s excitement, and, he had to admit, he was rather impressed with the supplies he brought with him. Indeed, Junior truly was an adventurer at heart, and that made the toad endlessly happy.

          ❝ Good job comin’ prepared, ❞ he complimented. Too bad he wasn’t - he was currently wearing his lounge clothes, certainly not anything appropriate for an expedition. ❝ Er, give me a minute. ❞ he excused himself to his room, and, a few minutes later, came out in his usual adventuring outfit, sans the backpack, which was sitting neatly by the front door.

    He picked up the map, kneeling down to the prince’s level so that he could see it. ❝ This is a map of tha Forest of Illusion. I have plenty of maps of this place, but none this detailed, and certainly none with these markings, ❞ he said, pointing out the symbols in question: a sun, a moon, and what looked like several inverted triangles scattered across the paper. ❝ Where exactly didya find this map? ❞

“Captain!” Junior said to immediatly rush and hug the toad tight. “Are you busy? Are you not? I found an interesting map! Would you like to search treasure with me?”“ the koopa prince asked happily while jumping with map on hand.

The tyke was so excited, he literally entered the Captain’s house without asking to then sit on a table. “Here it is! It got strange pictures I don’t really understand! Have a look!” he insisted.

   ★→ The Captain was knocked back a bit by the sudden hug, but he laughed, arms wrapping around the young prince to hug him back. ❝ Hello to you too, kiddo. No, I’m not busy. ❞ Far from it, actually. ❝ What’s up? ❞

    He tilted his head curiously as Junior mentioned a map. Then he said the word “adventure” and it was all over. So much for a break.

          ❝ Let’s see what we’ve got here, ❞ the toad hummed as he observed the map. Indeed, it was much different than the maps that were supplied in Toad Town, though he could immediately tell the area that the map showed: the Forest of Illusion.

          ❝ Huh, ❞ the Captain squinted at the map, trying to make sense of the seemingly random symbols scribbled on parts of the map. But his experience as an adventure told him that nothing about this map was random, despite its appearances. This truly was a mystery, but it was one that the Captain was going to solve.

          ❝ I hope you came prepared for an expedition, kiddo. ❞ Uh oh. What are they getting themselves into?
