I had been working on the sketch for a while but I couldn't bring myself to finish it, I like the result! I love the aesthetics and Padmé's hair, she has so many styles!

✨ "A sword, a crown, and a voice like fire."
Fanart inspired by Chappell Roan’s unforgettable MTV performance in 2024 — where she looked like a queer medieval heroine stepping out of a fantasy ballad.
This look gave me royal warrior bard vibes and I just had to draw it.
Long live the pink princess of pop👑💖

I wouldn't say there aren't any problems with Padmé's writing, or that there wasn't any misogyny on the part of the writers in the media she appeared in, but some people don't even try to understand her character.
"Padmé was a useless liberal centrist," seriously, what the hell do you mean? She constantly thwarted Palpatine's fascist plans, got herself into extremely dangerous situations to help people, almost managed to achieve peace between the Republic and the Separatists (but was obviously thwarted, because this is still a prequel narrative and a tragedy), and gave one of the kickoffs for the Rebellion.
Unfortunately, this discussion also led me to read some very condescending responses from Americans about leftism. Star Wars fandom, you'll pay me.
Now, this isn't to say Padmé had no flaws; having flaws is good for a character. She was quite gullible to the system at times, but she did her best to help and negotiate for peace. It's also important to remember that Clone Wars is a children's show, not a complex political narrative.
"Padmé married a fascist" makes it sound like she fell in love with a fully-fledged Darth Vader, when in reality, Padmé reconnected with a young man who had been a very kind person when they were children and was an important figure during a battle on her planet. Padmé fell in love with Anakin when he was a man who, despite his many problems, was also someone who strove to be good and saw her as more than just her political persona.
Padmé also doesn't know what we, as viewers, know and wouldn't have imagined that that conversation in the field on Naboo was a harbinger of what was to come.
The Tusken Massacre was horrific, but it occurred after Anakin's mother had been kidnapped and tortured for a long time, only to finally die in her son's arms. What happened to Shmi was brutal, and the sight of it, coupled with his pre-existing anger issues, drove Anakin to commit this cruel crime, but at that point in the story, what he did was still understandable. On some level, Padmé truly understood Anakin; she knew what it was like to be unable to save someone (as she recounts in that scene in the AOTC novelization about the group of children she helped relocate after their sun imploded and who died anyway, as well as likely many other moments during her political career). Excusing the Tusken genocide may not have been the morally correct choice (again, it's okay for characters to be flawed), but it's not completely incomprehensible.
Padmé's faith in Anakin's goodness is also a constant in the character; it wasn't something thrown into ROTS out of nowhere, and she had her reasons for believing it. Before he completely loses his mind, Anakin made mistakes, but he was also constantly doing good, was sweet, and did everything he could to care for those he loved. She believed there was good in him because she knew him and saw more than just his bad side. Her actions make sense with what we know about the character, and the ending of ROTJ is proof that she wasn't crazy to think that (and Padmé wasn't even the only one to "excuse" him; Ahsoka tells Darth Vader that she wouldn't leave him this time, and Luke's story is about trying to save his father. This doesn't seem to indicate that they would hand him over for punishment, and both were heroic figures fighting against the Empire).
The Queen/Senator Amidala facade wasn't Padmé's only side, it's important to know this when analyzing her. What I'm trying to say here isn't that she was perfect, but rather that she wasn't horrible, as some try to paint her, and that her actions weren't as inconsistent as both haters and fans think.
