Diana Bishop is the daughter of the district attorney, but despite her father's significant position, Diana always behaves recklessly. she disappears all night at parties, meets foolish people, and does crazy things. no matter how many times Mr. Bishop tries to punish her, Diana always escapes. then he hires Matthew. Matthew is rude, domineering, and always says exactly what he thinks. he annoys Diana, and she wants to get rid of him but Matthew becomes her shadow. He always finds her, no matter where she runs off to.

Diana is furious. she hates Matthew. but that changes when he saves her from her street gang for the first time. after that, they go to lunch together, and Diana realizes that all this time she has just been trying to convince herself that she doesn’t care about Matthew. but he is handsome, smart, and protects her. maybe she is ready to be a little more obedient. a little.

matthew makes a living as a photographer, and diana is preparing to get married. matthew is supposed to take several portraits of diana, but he falls in love with her. despite the fact that she has promised herself to another, diana gives her heart to the photographer.

this is a story about incredible love but there is no place for a happy ending in it..

au! this year Matthew is sent to teach history at a boarding school, where he first meets Ivy. her intelligence, beauty, sense of humor, and charisma are overwhelming but there are several rules that Matthew cannot break

1) Ivy is a student, and relationships between students and teachers are forbidden

2) she is young, very young

3) her wealthy parents would likely tear him to pieces if he so much as touched her

but when she first gets into his car to hide from the headmaster, Matthew simply cannot say "no" to her. thus begins what Ivy calls "friendship."

"come on, Matthew, we're friends!" she says as she steals his cigarettes or sneaks into his house to find adult films under his bed

this drives Matthew crazy. he knows it’s becoming more than friendship, and he has to put a stop to it. he must tell Ivy no when she places her hand on his, he must stop when he leans in to kiss her… but it’s already too late

he realizes he’s sinking and cannot save himself because he doesn’t know how to swim. they fight, again and again, as Matthew tries to end their secret romance. but then he always goes back to her, unable to bear seeing her sad

fighting, love, fighting again, laughter, sex, more fighting. It becomes unbearable. but neither of them can stop

and then suddenly, it all comes to an end. he is in town on business when, after yet another fight, Ivy calls to tell him she is leaving the school for good. that’s when Matthew realizes he cannot let her go. he must tell her the truth about his feelings. but she hangs up

Matthew jumps in his car, hoping to make it in time. but fate is a cruel mistress… he gets into an accident, unable to tell Ivy how much he loves her. when Matthew comes to in the hospital, he vaguely understands what is happening. but then all the images fade away. the last thing he sees before he completely loses consciousness is Ivy's face. he desperately wants to tell her the truth. but it’s too late
