His heart raced, guilt threatening to rise as he listened to the echoing silence. Why can’t it end sooner? Did Lowell have nothing to say because it was nonsensical? The uncomforting silence finally ends, and he looked to the elder sibling as his shoulder was patted.

Eyes glistened up, tears threatening them now as he listened to the moral boost he needed.  Lowell was good at that, being the rock Chrom needs, and as such, he could only smile warmly as he finally let a tear slide down his cheek. Wiping it away with a gloved hand, he sighed a little as he spoke.

“...Yeah, you’re right. We can’t falter now, not now. We’re lucky we have such amazing bonds, loving friends and family too. I... I miss Em, I will always miss her, but I can’t let her death stop me.” He expressed, his heart racing a bit as he shuffled to get a bit comfortable. The demons tried to hurt him, but he can’t falter and lose to them now.

“We aren’t alone, you’re right Lowell. I don’t want you to forget that too. We’re brothers, we’re going to shoulder the pain and the burdens together, but also the glory and honour of the Shepherds. So... thank you, for reminding me. I... I needed it.”

“I… was?” He questions in disbelief as he laid there, azure eyes bright from the sudden wake up call. Looking over at his brother who was examining him, the younger brother bit his lip as he pushed himself up with his brother’s aid. 

“Nothing is wrong exactly, Lowell…” Chrom explains as he took the glass and sipped the water, a hand shaky as he closed his eyes and shook his head. “I… I can’t remember what was happening.. everything was fine and next minute… you were gone and it was dark… I’m sorry, for being weak, brother.”

Lowell helped Chrom to rest his back on the wall as he listened to him. A low huff left his lips. That dream…Well, he cannot say that he did not face a similar or even worse nightmare than what Chrom just had. They after all…saw something…cannot be taken back. The person they loved more than anything in this world fall before their eyes and they couldn’t do anything to stop it. Nightmares bound to gawn on them at every moment they try to close their eyes.

“You are not weak, Chrom…” followed a pat to his shoulder as he sat down beside him. A gentle smile curling his lips, the older brother continued, “You are nothing but weak, believe me.” eyes darted for a second to his hands then went back up. “If you think you are weak just because you had a nightmare then let me surprise you, I, too have them, everyone in this camp, no…everyone in this whole realm had one or two but you know what makes us different from anyone else?” he let the other think for a moment.

“We cannot falter, right? A nightmare can’t let us cower in fear, can it? We have a duty to uphold…a lot of lives on our shoulders. Plus…we have each other. You, Lissa and I, we are not alone. We are lucky to have many wonderful bonds with the guys who risk their lives for us on a daily basis. How about..you think of that for now, yeah?” his hand reached to pat his head. “We’re not alone, Chrom…” as he is saying this to himself, too. A reminder for both of them.

It started off irregularly, a nightmare here and there, but only small ones that weigh no significance. However, as of late, they have more and more impact to his morality. He zones out, he spaces himself out, and he knows it concerns Lowell to no ends. Yet Chrom won’t say anything.

That night, he retreated to bed early - very, early. Laying on his back, his dreams started to look promising, more peaceful and ensured he got a good nights sleep, but it was all a rouse. Slowly, the dreams twisted into nightmares, and Chrom was tossing and turning, groaning and begging for the torment to stop, to be released from his reoccurring turmoils in his sleep. 

Next thing he heard was his brother’s voice, telling him something that he couldn’t make out. The grips of fear clinged to Chrom, and he eventually broke free from it and woke up in fear and sweat, desperate to catch breath for his lungs as he glanced at his older brother who he saw was panicked. 

“L-Lowell… I… wh-why are you here…? A-Aren’t you meant to be on watch..?” He asked breathlessly, his eyes fighting the urge to cry at what his nightmares pertained. 

“Why am I h– Of course, I will be here! You were groaning in pain!” he replied quickly, eyes scanning the other for injuries or anything of that sort but he did not seem to be injured. 

He loosened his grip around his little brother to free his right hand and gently brush his bangs away. Gosh, he was sweating so much. He will get sick if he didn’t wipe that sweat away. “What happened? –what is wrong?” Lowell looked around for some water, pouring some in a glass and helped his little brother to sit up to drink some water. “Slowly….slowly…” rubbing his back to comfort him.
