Nightmares had plagued Catra. Images of a childhood they never lived plagued them, images of war and torture and pain and betrayal. Restful sleep eluded them and they woke up countless times. Eyes closed, an arm crossed over their eyes, they laid on the ground. “If I fall asleep just kick me or some shit like that.”

“Careful!” Catra’s tone was brisk, rude, and far too loud. They’d given Link the badge to inspect themself. “I have no fucking clue what that is.” The badge, a bright green badge with a dark green symbol they knew only from nightmares, was found in the dog toy bin at the animal shelter. Nonetheless, no matter how harmless it seemed, the badge left them feeling weird, like they’d lost something important, like something was missing, and they cherished the stupid thing already, wanted to keep it close, show that they had earned it.
