Addie smiled briefly terror still filled her body but having Frannie beside her was enough to stop Addie from crying. “That was you, I just assumed it was Enzo” she sighed. “D’you think one day he’ll just drink himself to death and take mom with him?” she asked in a hushed voice jumping slightly as she could hear the man turning the door knobs on all the rooms before there’s probably taking stick of who was home.
“nah. dad pissed me off enough,” frannie shrugged it off. “i mean, i’m hoping they die an’ leave us a shit ton of money that we never knew existed. that’d be nice,” she hummed softly. the room grew quiet as they both listened to the footsteps down the hallway. the door on their room wiggled and she held her breath, holding up a finger to motion for her sister to be quiet. “there’s a twenty on the counter and a bottle in the fridge. fuck off,” she pushed against the door with the palm of her hand. there was a frustrated grunt on the other side, but the offering of money had been enough to ward him off, at least for one night.

“And should I sketch it first, before I go for it?” she asked nervously, Ariel really didn’t want to screw this up.”
“if you wanna. it’d probably be easier for you.”

Addie slid down until her head was in Frannie’s lap her left arm still tightly hugging her knees. “ Why is he scared of you?”she whispered. “You’re like a puppy” she added quietly
“well, cause’ he knows the lengths i’m willing to go to protect you three. an’ he knows i could hurt him if i really tried. y’know that hole in the living room wall? that was from me.”

“I haven’t been hiding it, I just didn’t tell you” she smiled, honestly it felt good to tell someone about what was going on at school, it was almost expected that she’d fly under the radar and the average line so it was nice that someone she cared about knew that wasn’t the case. “I’ll have your back too but I don’t think I’m quite as scary as Nette and Enzo” she shrugged. As soon as Addie curled up on the floor it was as if all she could hear was her dad’s footsteps growing louder, reducing her sister’s attempt at comfort to no more than a muffle. “We can’t him near us, we can’t let him near us” she kept repeating over and over, resting her head in her hands and squeezing her knees to her chest as tightly as possible.
Frannie sighed softly and pulled her sister closer, stroking the girl’s hair and remembering this exact feeling from when she was younger. She’d grown older and adapted, learning how to protect herself, but the utter fear and helplessness she had felt as a child was still fresh in her mind. “If he somehow gets in here an’ sees me, I doubt he’d even do anything,” she tried to comfort the girl. “He’s kinda’ scared of me, I think. And if he knows that I’m beyond pissed about what he did to your arm, he wouldn’t wanna’ give me a reason to take that anger out on him.”

“Yeah well it’s only a freshman class but it’s way more challenging than all the classes at my school”she shrugged. “Hm that makes sense I guess, plus I’m sure that if anyone ever hurt either of us they’d be the first to come to our defense” Addie smiled. “Honestly I’d really love to go to New York, it would be cool if one of us actually made it but either way I wanna go anyway” she smiled widely at the thought. “Move around a lot, really? How am I gonna keep up with you and your family? I want my future kids to know their Aunt Frannie” she smiled briefly, but the panic rushing through her body prevented her from smiling for too long. Addie’s arm was much worse than she’d been letting on and so she really wasn’t much help at all but she did what she could glad to have Frannie’s help. Once the two were satisfied with it’s placement the younger brunette flicked the lock on the door and slid down against the dresser, not allowing herself to move incase any noise she made could draw him closer. Addie moved her finger to her lip motioning for Frannie to be quiet. It was clear from her dad’s stumbling and screams that he was past the point of drunk, at this point Addie was just hoping Fran was right and he’d pass out before he got to them.
“geez, kid, i can’t believe you’ve been hiding your genius from all of us,” she teased. she nodded softly. “yeah. i guess it’s comforting knowin’ i’ve got both of them who’ll have my back no matter what. they’re tough kids,” she shrugged. before she could answer any more of her sister’s questions, her dad’s footsteps grew louder, and she sensed the panic in the smaller girl. she hated herself for not being able to whisk them all out of chicago and away from their parents. “you’re okay,” she whispered, quickly sliding to her knees beside the girl and pulling her into her side. “i promise. nothing’s gonna’ hurt you. if worst comes to worse we can open the window an’ get out. breathe.”

“i know one girl at the hospital. she’s taken care for me lots and lots of times, without the needless questions and all.” alissa glanced at the other’s blood dripping down her hand and gasped softly, starting to rustle around her bag immediately after. “here, take this,” she handed frannie a small bottle of vodka and a bag of paper napkins. “don’t pour it all over, of course, just a little bit onto the napkin and a couple of pats on your cut. if you agree to come with me to the hospital, the nurse i know will handle the rest.”
“so you’re positive it needs stitches? i mean, no one’s ever died of a cut on their hand, right?” frannie asked, even though she already knew the answer. before the girl could warn her, she’d already poured the vodka onto the open cut, immediately cursing and leaning forward. “fuck,” she hissed under her breath, squeezing her eyes shut and curling her fingers around her wrist. she took the napkins and tried to clean the cut, but eventually gave up and shrugged off her jacket, wrapping it tightly around her hand to try and stop the bleeding. hugging her clothed hand against her chest, she rolled her eyes at the situation and looked to the girl. “guess i don’t really have a choice, then.”

“Do you think this sketch is a bit too much right now, or should I start with something simpler?” she asked. “Oh nope, oops I forgot to do that” she smiled, quickly cleaning them off before returning back back to Frannie.
“whatever you feel comfortable doin,’ really,” frannie shrugged. “there y’go, good job,” she laughed. “pretty soon all that’ll be second nature to you.”

“this sure as hell needs stitches, frannie. let me take a closer look–,” alissa didn’t even touvh the other’s hand, inspecting the ct from a distance, but seeing everything that could possibly go wrong in her thoughts. “hospital. now. even if this doesn’t need many stitches, this cut needs to be thoroughly cleansed.” the redhead stood up, offering frannie an arm to help her walk easier if she even needed that - the brunette didn’t always seem like one to ask for help nor accept it. “let’s go. i don’t want that terrible cut of yours to infect your precious blood.”
frannie winced when the girl leaned in closer to inspect the cut. she used one hand to try and stop the blood from dripping onto the ground, but eventually gave up, wiping it on her already-ruined jeans and shaking her head. “well shit,” she huffed. “woah, woah, the hospital isn’t necessary,” she shook her head. “i can like, stitch it up myself. m’not in the mood for messing with doctors and their stupid questions,” she shrugged half-heartedly. she saw the girl offer her an arm out of the corner of an eye but just stood there, staring at her hand and cursing herself.

“That would be a freaking pain, I wouldn’t be able to do anything for myself, which would probably just make me more of a target” she laughed. “I’ve seen that track but I don’t really go near the high school much ‘cept for my math class, a lot of those kids are super rough I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets more use as a spot for drug deals instead of a place where people go and run leisurely” she joked. “I don’t think anyone could really hold it against ‘em I mean I more angry at mom and dad for doing this we understand it’s not their fault, but I just still don’t quite get why they take it out on other people…like random people… but maybe you’re right, maybe they’ll mellow out” addie smiled. “Man I wish I could see New York…but I guess I could see the draw of a small town, d’you think you’d ever move to somewhere that small? It probably felt cooler when you were little, riding in on a motorcycle like you owned the place” she laughed. “What am I gonna do with it? Can you imagine how much crap I’d get if anyone saw that in my room” she protested, feeling herself jump slightly as she heard the door slam shut, Addie bolted off the bed and doing her best to use her one good hand to move Frannie’s drawers in front of the door. “Well as you know neither mom or dad are completely sane.”
“wait, they send you to the high school for your math class?” frannie raised an impressed eyebrow. she shrugged when the girl brought up her siblings misplaced anger. “well, i guess they’ve both learned that fighting dad is fruitless, so they take it out on other people in their place,” frannie pursed her lips in thought. “i mean, at least nette picks people who kinda’ deserve it, like that one douchebag teacher who was preying on young girls.” she listened as the girl spoke and nodded softly. “maybe we’ll go to new york someday, when one of us accidentally ends up rich an’ famous for somethin’ stupid. it’ll probably be nette,” she joked. “that’s a good question. i don’t think i could live in a place like that for the rest of my life. i’d like to move around a lot, i think. like i did when i was younger.” she was cut off when they both heard the front door. frannie paused to listen to the footsteps, wincing when she realized it was their father. she jumped to her feet and helped her sister push the dresser in front of the door. “my room’s at the end of the hallway, so he usually passes out before he gets here,” she whispered, rolling her eyes playfully to try and comfort her sister.
