Since the Return show in 2019, I’ve seen people make comments about how Gerard’s appearance. Whether it’s his weight, his lines/wrinkles/the fact that his skin isn’t as elastic as it was when he was younger, there have been people who consistently say it’s weird to see him as he’s aged.

So seeing him come onstage in full facial prosthetics covered in deep wrinkles and age spots, in a decades old look, middle finger in the air saying fuck you, feels so gratifying.

Fuck fear and disgust of aging and the way we talk about natural changes in our bodies as we do. Fuck glorifying youth, especially when someone’s youth was so filled with struggle and aging is both something not everyone has gotten to do and has been incredibly healing.

And it’s not helpful to insist so loudly, “HE HASN’T AGED AT ALL, HE LOOKS GREAT/SO HOT”. Because he has aged, and he’s hot. They’re not exclusive (and he doesn’t owe us shit, of course)!
