Just wanted to highlight the growth in Meryl and Milly's confidence between Trigun Vol. 1 Ch. 1 and Trigun Maximum Vol. 2 Ch. 4. Noting not just the change in their behaviour (and how they place their order), but also how Nightow illustrates them and the reactions in the background.
They are viewed - or at least their situation is viewed as comedic in Trigun, so our eyes go to the spit takes within the same panel, but in Trigun Maximum, Milly and Meryl are the focus. Nightow gives them the spotlight, greying out the background. The men's reactions are given their own separate panel. And we can interpret what those reactions actually mean.
Two years makes a lot of difference.
