Video inspiration

youtube
The start of this documentary inspires me to use news stories as the audio. I also like the use of a montage of the clothes and high street. I think the use of the news stories playing in the background makes the video seem a lot more serious and gets the message across better to viewers.

Video Development/Ideas
In Europe, the country with the most operating sweatshops is Romania. I wanted to use a Romanian word for my video which relates to my concept, I have come up with the name “Expuse” which means “expose” in Romanian.
Not only is my video trying to expose Romania and other countries for still operating sweatshops, but i also want to expose shoppers for constantly pumping money into these brands and contributing to the unethical industry.

final images from test shoot
Here are my 3 final iages from shoot 1.
The point of this shoot was to raise awareness for where clothes from fast fashion brands come from and to try persuade customers to shop at more sustainable brands. This message was put across by the use of bold text, black and white filters, and the use of high contrast/brightness to draw viewers in.

image editing
1. cropping the background image and taking off the key pad so it is just the screen.
2. using the perspective tool on photoshop to make the image straight
3. creating a black background ready to add in the other layers around it
4. using the contrast and brightness tool to make the background really dark and the laptop screen not as bright so it doesn't take any focus away from the other layers.
5. here is where i took my other images and cut around them using the lasso tool
6, i then placed the other images around the side and played around with positioning
7. Finally i added text to make it more serious and deliberate, i like that it almost looks like an advertisement
1. Stretching my image up to create a space above the items for editing.
2. adding another image on top
3. lowering the opacity of the top image to make it look like its a memory and creating a depth of field
4. using the blur tool i blurred the edges of the top image to make it fade in and not look as edited
5. using the saturation tool i made the top image black and white to match the running theme.
6. i also edited the saturation of my primary image however not to a full black and white as i wanted a slight contrast between the 2 images.

shoot 1chosen images
These are my chosen images from my first shoot. Some of these are going to be edited together in layers to create one image. The others i want to edit in black and white with text over the top to make it look more dramatic.
The lighting was good and i like the use of the black background as the focal point stands out more.

test shoot/shoot 1 contact sheets
For my test shoot i wanted to focus on products rather than a model. Although these images are simple, i ensured i experimented with lighting, framing and depth of field to create my images. These images are going to e edited a lot and merged together to create my final pictures. I liked some of these pictures enough to use in my shoot 1 but some of them were just testers to see what angles etc looked good.

Test shoot inspiration-
This is a collection of images that have inspired my original ideas for my test shoot. I want my test shoot to primarily focus on objects so i can really take time to practice placing objects in different places in the frame, in different lighting, with effects, and so on. I also believe the use of objects rather than people in images can create more of a story and have more meaning as viewers don’t get distracted and can focus on exactly what the image is trying to portray.
There are various on set and editing techniques used in these images which i will also be using in my shoot, including projections, different backgrounds, various light sources and combining images together with the use of photoshop.

Initial Theory Concept
The reason I have chosen to include the word 'exposed' in the title is because I aim to look deeper into fast fashion brands and what goes on behind the scenes. Doing this will hopefully educate viewers to be more mindful with their shopping habits when they know exactly where their products are coming from. I want my photography and film work to communicate a strong message to my audience by using a dark aesthetic, bold writing and an editorial style to capture viewers' attention but also make them see this as a more serious topic.

Inspiration from an Instagram page exposing some fast fashion brands and educating viewers on what goes on behind the scenes. I am initially thinking about including some of the facts from this Instagram page on some of my images to add a serious element to my work and communicate my narrative.
