Travel brings creativity
Do you want to be a designer? Travel !
Tumblr media
An individual’s level of creativity can be directly influenced by the amount of traveling that they do.
The creative benefit that an individual gains from traveling can be drastically impacted by how immersed they become into the culture that they’re visiting.
Designers should not just aspire to travel, but also to immerse themselves into the different cultures, languages, and experiences that they encounter while abroad.
I’ve been lucky enough to visit and speak in places like London, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Santiago, Istanbul, Munich, Milan, Bologna, Venice, Florence, São Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Singapore and Finland up next. This has been a wonderful way to see the world. With these travels, I think I took things to a deeper level. Those experiences has bloomed the creative instinct in me, which was already there inside but I was never really watering them. I left my well settled HR profession and took the designer path, a fresh start to the new journey. I think I’m on to something. This is something that I’ve wanted to do ever since I was young, but my motivation for doing it now (and in such a drastic way) is something that I think any designer could benefit from understanding.
Creativity and change in perspective:
Tumblr media
When I started traveling, I quickly noticed that different cultures would tend to solve problems in different ways, and many would appreciate forms of aesthetics that were vastly different from what I was used to. Cars, toilets, door handles and locks, advertisements, interior decorations, power outlets. No matter where you go in the world, the execution of these common designs will, many times, be fundamentally different from place to place.
I’ve encountered solutions to problems that I had never previously known to exist, aesthetic trends or fixations that I was never previously aware of. All of these realizations have been the product of my travels, a type of perspective that can only be acquired through experiencing a different culture.
And what about the more abstract things that tend to be the backdrop for everything that follows? The things that are different, but also kind of the same. Like sentence structure, cultural norms, or greetings. “Thank you” and “Obrigado”. A handshake and a kiss on the cheek. “How are you? "and “Tudo bom?”. They’re used in the same way, but when you dig deep into their meanings, you realize that they have different roots and implications. These subtle nuances shape the ways in which we think and the contexts that our cultures operate within.
Travel and Creativity:
As I continued to collect these experiences, I approach problems through a different lens and be open to previously foreign styles of solutions I was experiencing a well-researched psychological shift that occurs when one spends a certain amount of time abroad.
A professor at Columbia Business School-Adam Galinsky, did several studies on connection between creativity and international travel. He found that new sounds, smells, tastes, languages, sights, and experiences will spark different synapses in the brain, resulting in an increase in cognitive flexibility. This is what enables the mind to jump between different ideas, think deeply, and make atypical connections between fundamentally different objects or thoughts. It’s the fuel of creativity. But perhaps even more compellingly, he’s found that this actually goes much deeper than just being abroad. In fact, simply traveling to a place might not be enough. The greatest effects appear to result from true immersion.
In other words, a week long trip to a walled-in resort in the Bali probably won’t have much of an effect on one’s creativity. But a week spent living with a local family in the Bali could.

Yosemite Landscape
This illustration is inspired from my trip to Yosemite National Park California. Two years ago we spent 10 hrs hiking in Yosemite National park with my sister and captured many breathtaking views and this is one of that iconic Tunnel view.
Here you can see EI Captain on your left and Half dome at the center & Bridalveil Fall on your right. This is an extremely popular spot. There are always a line of photographers by the edge to capture the best view with   their set-up tripods and cameras.
Do you know? This is the view made famous by Ansel Adams (@anseladams) was given his first camera at the age of 12 during his first visit to Yosemite.
When you stand at the edge of 3500 foot cliff and you will know where you stand in life. A hell of a view and hell of a feeling. To me it was a very spiritual. Feel very fortunate to have had that experience and to have met some great people during that hike.

Bologna Inspired
As the weather is cold, seeking warmth from Bologna’s architecture. Hues of burnt oranges, ochre yellows and brick reds clashing with a clear blue sky.
My two month stay in Bologna (a gem of Italy) has inspired me this time to create a mood-board & design from its architecture, weather, food  and people.  (Memory) Cobble-stoned streets were lined with twinkling lights, young Friday night party revelers, college coeds, and couples with hands intertwined, enjoying all that the city had to offer. Whether it’s 1 am streets were still bustling with young people, running around, laughing, and enjoying the warm evening.
Its a small city, where everyone hung out as if in one cohesive group, bringing a warmth and energy to this  small city that is rare to find elsewhere. I feel very at home, Why?   I guess it was just the friendliness of locals in the small towns, the natural beauty, and the innate cultural warmness and inclusiveness.

Interpretation of Natural World & Fashion Sense
Ah! So after a long break, I am finally here! Sope...Recently I designed a capsule collection which is inspired by an avid nature lover, modern women and may be sometimes I see myself in her.  :)
This designs are about a Counterculture movement and it’s significance in fashion. It is about a clash of cultures. The collection married eastern and western aesthetics. It was about vintage Americana alongside influences from Asia. A woman who desire to connect with nature yet spending life in the fastest city. She has a keen fashion sense and confidence in her style, Self-expressive. who dress with swag and have a detail oriented view of their clothing that ensures they make a statement with every outfit.
This Creative Manifesto trend & the direction continues across interiors as well and is evolving with a pouring effect coming through via experimental ! Trans-seasonal pieces featuring contemporary yet modern prints and silhouette. Leisure luxe trend- matched set to cater the demand of functionally. Relax proportion suit for an easy day wear option in head to toe color.
Merge relaxed tailored silhouette with elevated utility details to create a new casual contemporary look- Patch pocket, draw string, D-strings to add utilitarian edge.
the blazer dress takes inspiration from shirt dress, with over-sized proportion. Experiment with fastening such as belts to manipulate oversize silhouette.
The Car Coat,  Simple to statement making with feminine mood. This can imbues a sleek ladylike statement for SS19 and will continue in 2020 as well !!

Workwear and Identity
Today we as a society stress more on finding an individual aesthetic and language, the same reflects in how we dress at work as well. Today, women have overtaken the workforce. Their millennial ways of adopting an alternative lifestyle or unorthodox career choices have blurred the boundary between work and play, which is reflecting in the way they carry themselves. Therefore it’s no surprise that millennials are all about creating a personal brand that embodies who they are, rather than making a professional statement. Another side effect of digitalisation is the spawning of co-working spaces and an entrepreneurial culture that encourage interactions via email. All these factors have dismantled homogenised uniforms and led to the casualisation of workwear.
Tumblr media
I feel women are now seeking transitional pieces, a crossover between duty and off-duty dressing And brands are now trying to design for these newer generations. We are emulating trends from West and deviating from indigenous clothing. People are now open to experimenting with their workwear more than ever. Silhouettes with a focus on functionality and comfort are very important today. Workwear is no longer seen as conventional. The idea of personal style has transformed and a desire to experiment is now more prevalent, which is refreshing.
Tumblr media
2018 trend consists of boxy silhouettes such as shirts and wide-legged culottes, along with high-waisted trousers and kurta shirtdresses made using Indian textiles that marry function and style. The trend is all about defining “Power-dressing”. Double breasted suits, boxy cuts and oversized shoulders wear all the visual sign through fashion.
Tumblr media
Some brands are also creating a collection which is crafted in handspun and handwoven textiles. Workwear and handloom are merging but at a slow pace.
You might have observed these details but I am trying to confirm that, you are seeing modern classics such as matching co-cords, outerwear for layering (ex- trench) and dresses that flaunt structural shapes with details such as pleats with a hint of femininity and then there are loose-fitted tailored garments, easy oversized shirts, basic silhouettes with a dash of style - shirts with a notch collar, bat-winged sleeves, ruffled necklines or basic pants with a drop crotch, shirtdresses, shift dresses, masculine styles like power shoulders.
I hope, I am observing right. ….Righ? :)

Stay stylish with  JUMPSUIT
Jumpsuits are everywhere right now and I’m a fan of it. Even though I don’t wear them often, I’ve always like how stylish and classy they look and how this one piece can make a complete outfit.
They may be little intimidating if you’ve never worn it before. Don’t be nervous! They may be inspired by men’s coveralls, but they can be totally feminine and sophisticated in the right cuts and with the right styling.
The jumpsuit my model friend wearing in this post is a halter top with a wide leg. She can show off her figure by showing the right amount of skin with the halter top.
Tumblr media
Wear a solid colour
Black is always a slimming choice, but if you’re daring, wear a solid colour like burgundy, navy, olive green or forest green. These colours are great to show off your shape and automatic attention getter.
A solid jumpsuit is elongating because it’s one unbroken vertical line hence the eye moves easily up and down without interruption.
Tumblr media
Define your waist
That’s a most important part, never lose your figure. Yes, a slouchy, straight up and down jumpsuit can be cool but cinching your jumpsuit at the waist is a great way to define your shape and it adds some femininity.
A lot of jumpsuits comes with cloth belt or sometimes stitched elasticated band joining the top part to the bottom or else you can wear a belt to define your waist.
On very casual events, tying a lightweight jacket or shirt around your waist can look pretty chic too and it has the added benefit of hiding that whole oblong-butt thing.
Wear heels with wide leg jumpsuit
I always like wearing wide-leg jumpsuits. I feel wide leg jumpsuit can overpower a small frame.
You need to wear heels if you’re wearing a wide leg jumpsuit. If you wear sandals or flats with a wide-leg jumpsuit, the bottom half would look pretty sloppy.
For any kind of jumpsuit, when in doubt, add a high heel. Even the most utilitarian looking jumpsuit can be completely transformed by a good pair of heels.
Tumblr media
Break it up with a blazer
Breaking up the one solid colour jumpsuit with the lightweight jacket will give a dimension to your whole outfit. If you have never worn a jumpsuit before, adding a blazer or jacket will make you more comfortable than without. The reason is it will break up the look and adds a layer to make the jumpsuit more subtle.
How to glam it up for formal occasions
Jumpsuits are as good for an evening as they are for the day, only you have to do is accessorize it with glitzy metallic accessories.
The green jumpsuit my model wearing is a classic feminine jumpsuit with a halter neck. Since it’s more classy in the style, she could easily dress it up with heels, gold accessories and a tuxedo blazer.
Loose is more flattering
Finding a perfect jumpsuit is a big task. To my eyes, the loose jumpsuit that drapes your figure is more flattering and appealing than skin-tight jumpsuits.
The loose fit makes you look more elegant and taller. With a wide leg, your waist is defined and will look even slimmer.

The Mad Men Effect
Tumblr media
I started watching Mad Men series when I was in New York. Mad Men was inset in the 1960 ’s, focusing on the men and women working in an advertising agency in Madison Avenue New York City. There is two reason why I got fascinated with each and every episode.  No 1. Watching those episodes sitting in my New York apartment and imagining the same city and its people from 1960’ point of view.
And No 2. Their impeccable fashion style. In short, I have fallen victim to an epidemic that is sweeping the world. It caused by entering the eye from the television and takes root in the brain and one is instantly overwhelmed with the desire to dress like a character from Mad Men :D
Apart from 1960’s cool dressing trends, Mad Men also showed us that the decade was complicated, often unhappy, occasionally destructive time. It showed the sexual revolution, women entering the workforce and the rise of consumerism.
Leading man Don Draper is a sixties successful man, who resists change and that reflected in his dressing. He wore a classic grey suit through most of the seasons.
Tumblr media
Betty is a Don Draper’s gorgeous blonde wife who is always trying to portray perfection whether it is her dressing, house parties or raising kids.
Here Betty in swinging 60′s style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peggy is a secretary to Don Draper and later she is promoted to first female copywriter at the firm. Later, she became Don Draper’s second- in- command in the creative department. In early seasons, her looks showed innocent, hard-working girly quality but determined young women, who is eager to be successful. But she never uses her appearance for attention.
As she is moving up the corporate ladder, Peggy comes in shocking looks in all seasons. In early season she wears long sleeves, pleats and plaids and polka dots, the high-neck collars, the ruffle. Every season she is evolving to fit in Men’s world.
Be ready to go through her evolving style

Megan, Don’s sexy french second wife.  I am literally a fan of Megan’s dressing. She is very French simple and elegant, and hip and chic. Megan doesn’t just look like the late 60’s, she is also giving the look like the 70’s fashion to come. She is the only who showed up first in minis and jeans. In season 7 she leaves behind the New York style and moves to California and adopted the California fashion, now she is a ‘West Coast Hippie- flower child babe’.

2018: Yellow is the new black!
Considering the half of the U.S. population was expected to watch the solar eclipse in August 2017, yellow’s dominance in the spring forecast seems logical. I’d say there’s no question that the bright color is really going to be an attention getter. Yellow is going to draw the eye in. Spring/Summer 2018 giving us a heavy dose of sunshine!
Lately, following street style, runway style on Instagram/Pinterest has become my daily ritual but that doesn’t mean I don’t do other important things :)
Mustard or marigold shades of yellow have always been my favorites. Recently, I made a new friend who lives in the same building. One thing she very quickly noticed about me that my hands always reach towards the color of the Sun God. My husband is aware that I’m picky about fashion and obsess over minute details. So this makes it very difficult for him to pick anything for me during his travels. But this time he was confident with the color.  In his recent trip to Milan, he bought me a Marigold yellow top from Zara and he found me happy receiving it ;)
If you want to test drive the trend, start small. Invest in accessories like fanny bags or trendy tassel earrings. One of my favorite ways to wear this color is with prints. Put floral on anything and suddenly, we’re ready to rock the standout piece with sneakers, boots, heels- you name it. It will bring a fresh energy, I am sure!

Yes, 2018 is going in the right direction!

Khadi, new fabric for home
Tumblr media
When I see Kadi fabric, I feel luxury, simplicity and elegance. Khadi is more beautiful fabric than Irish linen, which through clever marketing became an international success. I have seen khadi rugs are hot favourite in Europe. This time when moving to new house, I decided that there will be some touch of khadi in our house. Actually, I wanted to add L shape sofa in our living room. How about khadi sofa for lounge?. While in search of this piece, I realized Khadi becoming a new hot favourite in the world of interior designs for its simple elegance and understated look. After making India in fashion, food now the world is falling for khadi for their homes. It adds a sense of warmth and well-being.
And this is my sustainable and fashionable buy

In Vogue: Spirituality
Tumblr media
let’s carry the aura of positivity. It’s ‘in’. What I have read and believe that, whatever we do in life, if we are giving it our 100% dedication, 100% attention and doing it honestly, then we are already on our spiritual path.  But is Spiritual quest the new Lamborghini?  I think spiritual glamor is the latest aspiration for the millennial. In one of the program, Oprah says. In a world perpetually on the edge, Nirvana has become the most sought-after luxury. People are not just exploring new ways to find inner peace and calm but flaunting it too.
Another major influence is celebrities- Hollywood and Bollywood and Instagram fitness stars. Their accounts are filled with attractive pics of a healthy lifestyle, Yoga, meditation etc. You might have heard in some interviews Yoga saved my life...I never actually knew what I wanted in life until I discovered Yoga. And you know what? You already know :) Yoga pants are in fashion.
But there is one thing to acknowledge that, yoga pants won’t make us an instant yogi BUT it can be the first tiny step towards discovering a deeper meaning in life.
Spirituality is not talking spiritual, it's feeling spiritual. Michael Neill, transformative coach and TEDx talk speaker warned about “spiritual hierarchies”. He said, “True spirituality is unquantifiable except by feeling.”
Ps: above picture of Centralpark is taken by me :)

It’s Plaidmania
Tumblr media
Is it just me or have you been noticing plaid? The timeless print is on fire from miniskirts to pants, blanket scarves to statement coats. It’s no secret that plaid / checkmate has becoming one of the season’s best trends.
I  remember when I was 7 or 8 years old and we went to our grandmother’s place (whom we used to call Daadi) for Holi festival - an occasion when we get new dresses. :) So my Daadi took me shopping. The shopkeeper showed us many dresses. I find it curious now that I didn’t allow anyone to choose for me. Rather, I wanted to choose my own dress. And I chose a red and white plaid dress! I still have the picture of that dress in my mind :) and I am thrilled to see plaid all around and again it’s March, the month of  Holi. But this time there is a twist in the tale. It was 8th March, International Women’s Day. I asked Mr.Hubby to celebrate it with gifting me a plaid. I leave no opportunity ;)
