âthe comment means exactly what the words say,â she gave him a reassuring grin, âif one has interest in something more then he has not made it known, though i am not bothered too much for i am content with the life i live,â she soothed with a small nod. âthen yes let us see these stalls and see what we can gain from the remainder of the fete for i am sure it wont be long until someone starts to depart and the rest follow like a herd of sheep.â
He nodded slowly, taking a moment to think before regaining his composed smile. âI think that is an excellent ethos to live by.â He replied, smiling more so in respond. âI imagine you are right, I feel many are growing wiry, and perhaps we are reaching the end of the event -- I doubt anyone will notice if we slip away.â

she gave him a half smile, his words were true the right man had not come along yet or at least not made himself known yet. âi think you might be right, or at least if he has he hasnât made himself known which is foolish of him,â she huffed with a small shake of her head. âthat is true, who cares indeed. i do take joy in the quiet moments of my life and i do get to live a little through others like yourself,â she teased lightly. âthen we shall change the subject to anything you wish my lord, and i beg of you please change the subject.â
He raised his brows in her direction, curious to the comment she spoke. âDoes such comments mean a man of interest has arrived? But he does not see you?â He queries, interested to know of her hearts desires. He notices the tone has changed, and thus changes the subject. âWell, if you would be so kind, I would like it if you joined me for a venture, perhaps we can see what stalls are still there to peruse?â

prim could feel a small blush crossing over her cheeks at his words, she hadnât meant to make it feel like such a thing but for him to state it on his own wasnât unpleasant to hear. âitâs a date,â she echoed back softly. âit wouldnât be unreachable if the right one were to come along i should think but for now there has been none that has made me change my mind yet,â giving him a thankful smile at his words she felt her shoulders relax, âthough perhaps that day isnât too far away,â her voice soft as she mused her thoughts aloud.â
He smiled at her confirmation, nodding softly in response. âMaybe the right man has not come along yet.â He mused, lowering his head a little, maybe a little disheartened at such a comment. âI am sure the time will come -- and if it doesnât , who cares?â He chuckled a little with a sigh. âSuch talks of marriage is rather -- depressing, as I feel I will end up in it merely for convenience.â

âyou tell me when you are free and we shall figure something out for i do enjoy your company,â she confessed with a soft smile, he was easy to be around and one of the few she felt as though she could be honest with. âhonest answer?â with a nod she clasped her hands together and let out a small sigh, âi never truly wished to take part in the whole marriage of it all, i am quite content with my shop and i refuse to give it up like any man would expect and there has no one that has really caught my attention like i want them too yet,â she explained with a small wince.
He nodded lightly, a smile raising to his features, in which he could not contain. He was happy in her company, it was easy to see he was in awe of her slightly, not that he would kindly admit such things. âItâs a date.â He confirmed with a smirk on his lips. The tone of the conversation turned, and he frowned slightly. âI am sorry marriage seems unreachable -- though a man should not prohibit you from continuing your goals and dreams.â He reminded her, eyes locking with hers as he did.

âahh, though do not be disheartened for there can always be another picnic delievered to you with no bidding necessary,â she soothed with a small tilt of her head. âit would be if i havenât been dodging them left, right and centre,â primrose shot back with a mischievous grin.
he scoffed slightly, a smile raising to his lips. such as prospect was flattering and he was keen to spend more time with her. âi am going to hold you to that.â he remarked with an amused smirk. âwhy are you dodging them?â he inquired with an intuitive glance.

âi do hope that you are enjoying yourself,â the bookshop owner stated as she came close to owenâs side with a small grin on her face. she had heard the bids placed upon her basket and was surprised at the names listed. âitâs a shame that we are only just now crossing paths.â
he had been unsuccessful at retrieving the winning bid, much to his dismay. however, he was happy to spend time with her, and thus would savour such company. âi am doing my best, though i am disheartened to not have won your basket.â he pouted , in a teasing manner. âi imagine your day is preoccupied with suitors?â

ask meme: [ embrace ] â sender jumps into receiverâs arms   for - @ofprimrose
The evening had been sublime, his attention drawn to a mixture of ladies of the ton, but his company with her had been his main attention. They had danced, and spent time conversing and getting to know each other. He was appreciative of the company, to be able to indulge and get to know her on a more intimate level. They danced, his hands moving to spin her slightly before she jumped into his arms. Gentle arms cradle her, a laugh leaving his lips as he gently lowered her to the ground, hands moving to hold her waist gently. â Easy -- I intend to sweep you off your feet , but in the right way. â

she was simply just happy to be with him again, she had never wanted to leave, but her marriage called for it. â surely, owen, you have more to tell than that ? â she goaded softly, â well, i suppose the children overpowered their governess and woke me this morning. â she begins, and if anything, she much adored being woken to the sounds of her little darlings. â we broke our fast and then the children had their lessons and i headed to the boutique, iâm afraid itâs much a bore from then on out. â
he felt at bliss with her, feeling at ease in her company. it was like old times, and he was truly thankful she was home with him.  â i am truly sorry that my life is not as thrilling as yours. â he teased , a smirk on his lips as he gently squeezed her hand. â are your children settling in alright? â he did not know what it was like to have a child , but he imagined it was both lovely but challenging.Â

he was afraid , he  needed  encouragement,  an  oust  of  confidence  to  allow  him  to  do  what  her  sought  to  do. she  was  the  one  that  got  away  ,  many  years  ago  ,  and  he  had  blamed  himself  ever  since. the  day  his  best  friend  had  asked  his  advice,  he  had  pushed  them  together,  when  truthfully,  he  wished  to  say  his  heart  remained  with  her  all  along. for  a  long  time,  he  had  sacrificed  his  own  happiness  for  others  ,  and  this  was  a  lead  to  his  own  self  betrayal  and  sabotage. he  had  never  found  love  since  then  ,  not  that  he  had  truly  been  looking  for  such  things. his  eye  had  remained  with  her,  and  he  had  distanced  himself  to  protect  his  heart. hearing  of  her  marriage,  of  her  bearing  children,  it  had  been  too  much  to  bare,  and  thus  he  had  gone  quiet  on  her. he  knew  this  was  not  fair,  but  he  had  to  do  it  for  his  own  sanity. things  were  different  now  ,  her  return  had  only  spurred  more  doubts  in  his  mind. he  wanted  to  believe  they  had  a  fresh  start,  one  of  which  he  could  see  their  friendship  blossom. but  in  truth,  he  did  not  wish  for  friendship  ,  he  wishes  he  could  say  what  he  had  wanted  to  say  for  many  years,  but  it  were  not  that  simple.
he  had  found  himself  outside  of  her  home,  silent  and  pacing,  deciding  on  his  next  move. he  wanted  to  invite  her  on  a  date,  court  her  ,  the  things  he  should  have  done  long  ago. however,  he  did  not  wish  to  taint  the  friendship  they  held  if  her  feelings  did  not  remain  with  him. âminutes  of  deliberation,  and  owen  found  some  courage  ,  wiping  his  sweaty  palms  down  his  trousers  before  knocking  on  the  door. an  exhale  ,  gasp  of  sorts  ,  left  his  lips  as  he  prepared  for  her  to  appear  in  front  of  him. as  she  did,  he  exhaled,  this  time  in  awe  of  her. as  always,  she  remained  perfect  in  his  eyes,  as  a  work  of  art  appeared  ,  he  admired  her.
â  will  you  please  join  me  on  a  walk?  i  have  something  i  wish  to  discuss  with  you. â

her hand in his and he was speechless, for only a moment, but for longer than intended. She knew how to cause doubts in his mind, the past of which was stolen from him. â I ate, had a meeting , and then spent some time in the gardens â He smirked, tilting his head.  â Tell me of your day , for it will be far more exciting than mine â

ânow that good sir would ruin the surprise would it not?â she shot back, her grin widening even further if that were truly possible. dragging him towards the nearby lake she smiled as she stood at itâs edge and took in a deep breath. âwhen i was younger my father would often bring me here, we would skip rocks together when the days seemed stressful,â she explained as she bent down and collected herself a rock, âit is a great way to pass time and it is soothing for the soul.â
He followed her willingly, watching the way in which she moved so elegantly, with such grace that he had to bring himself back. His eyes followed her, an amused smirk on his lips as they stopped by a nearby lake. He found the story sweet, to know this was part of a fond memory for her. âAnd yet - -you wish to bring me here, I do feel honoured.â He smirked, picking up a flat stone, skimming it with his finger, before throwing it across the lake, watching it skim the water three times before falling to the bottom. âI do find nature empowering, it gives me a moment to collect my thoughts.â

He followed her willingly, an amused grin on his lips as he did. âAnd where exactly are you taking me?â He spoke with an amused tone, truly intrigued to see where she was leading him.

âI will hold you to that.â He replied, an amused smirk on his lips. He welcomed the escape of normality, and to divulge in her company made it all the more tempting. âWhy not right now?â He posed, with brows raised.

she was unafraid to take his hand in hers, no second thoughts simply an action from their childhood. â terrible reasons, iâve been gone and oh how iâve missed you, owen ! â she grinned. â tell me, what is it youâve been up to ? â
He did not startle at her embrace, it felt natural to them both. âI have missed you also -- and I agree, there is much to catch up on.â He smiled down at her. âI wish I had more to tell, sadly my life is uneventful.â

being subtle had never been her strong suit, she had always held a flirtatious side to her and it was something that truly never went away. âwhy in fact i did do some indulging, i enjoyed myself a few tasty pastries and had some tea. it was quite divine if you ask me,â she shot back, her smile and eyes wide with happiness. âoh boo, business can be quite boring. we need to get you out and about more.â
âThat sounds very nice , in fact , i am rather jealous.â He teased with an amused expression. He would love to get away from it all, away from eye view and to be able to gain some peace. âYou are certainly right, my life has become rather repetitive. Though, I do like to think you bring some adventure.â He smiled with a smirk raising to his lips.

He noted her distance, but did not wish to pry or intrude. He knew she had a lot on, and her life was far more complicated than his own. âI expected as much , however , i feel you have your reasons.â He smiled, tilting his head. âI know, it has certainly been too long.â
