Happy Ace Awareness Week!

Asexual means a person doesn't feel sexual feelings or attraction to others, but this is a spectrum and can vary widely from person to person. Note that attraction does not equal romance, and asexual is not the same as aromantic. Some people are sex repulsed, some are not. Some people are sex positive, some are not.

Demisexuality falls under the asexual umbrella, and means a person doesn't feel attraction until developing a strong connection with a person. Many of the characters I write are demisexual, but not all. Phantom and Rook, and Matsdotter and Adrastus, have a demisexual main.

There are many different shades of Ace, and many different types of stories you can read. What are you waiting for?

man i don't know how to say this but gazans here are risking their lives to make posts asking for help. they are asking for you to contribute a small amount of money to buy food or medicines or get shelter.

whether we like it or not, we are complicit in this genocide. either because of our silence, or because our tax money if being used to bomb them. i thought that people would be more eager to help gazans, trying to 'reverse' the damage somehow.

Ce livre n'était pas pour moi mais je le trouve très satisfaisant pour des enfants - le public cible quand même ! Ce n'est pas que les enfants méritent moins de qualité mais simplement qu'en tant qu'adulte et lecteur.ice aguerri.e j'ai des attentes plus strictes pour mes lectures.

Ce qui m'a gêné est l'écriture, la plume n'est pas très intéressante, un peu plate. L'histoire est simple et sympathique. Le vrai plus est l'univers original, peuplé de créatures terribles (dans les deux sens du terme) venues de différentes mythologies décrites en détail. Il y a quand même une scène terrifiante qui m'a bien marqué (celle qui décrit la sorcière omg quelle horreur !) et l'univers est resté un peu avec moi comme un souvenir plaisant. Mais voilà, le livre fait son job sans en faire plus, sans véhiculer de message bien ficelé comme certains romans jeunesse merveilleux. En toute honnêteté si, il y a un message, le voici : il faut écouter les règles des adultes même si tu ne vas sans doute les comprendre qu'en apprenant de tes erreurs.

Je recommande si tu aimes les livres simples et les mondes remplis de fées et de créatures magiques.

You might know this tiny frog.

This is Mini mum (photo by Andolalao Rakotoarison), a species I had the pleasure to name—together with a team of amazing colleagues—back in 2019.

That was the start of a fascination with the process and consequences of miniaturisation for vertebrates. How the hell does this tiny frog manage to fit all of its vital organs—more or less all the same senses and organs that we have—into a package the size of a tic-tac‽ Why and how has it evolved to be so small? And why don't we get frogs that are much smaller?

Well, I just secured 1.5 MILLION Euros (!!!) in the form of a European Research Commission Starting Grant, to answer these and other related questions in the genomes of Mini frogs and other miniaturised vertebrates.

Because it turns out, there are *lots* of miniaturised vertebrates, and they push the boundaries of how small we think it is possible for a vertebrate to be! Here is a little graphic of some of them, scaled to a BIC ballpoint pen.
