           I was through a woodland of a new land I conquered. There was snow on the ground, and the trees were barren, making it easy for me to see my surroundings. Not like that was going to help me, I went into the woods unarmed, unprotected, and alone.

           The locals told me all they knew about Dacia’s heir. They were a fire mage and a necromancer and they sounded skilled. Because of this, I left any defense I could have behind, so as not to threaten them. Hell, I didn’t even bring a horse because I was afraid the horse would frighten the mage. Hopefully, if there are any thieves in these woods, they well as afraid of the mage’s power as the villagers I spoke to were. Then again the mage shouldn’t be able to use his magic in the snow. Let’s just hope that the bandits don’t know that.

            After a half an hour or so of walking, a boy came into the clearing. The boy was seven years old with long curly brown hair, wrapped in furs. This must be Dacia’s heir; He looks like the locals. Ha, this is the necromancer they’re all afraid of? He’s just a child. “Hey, you must Dacia’s Heir,” I said, holding out my hand to the child. “I’m Bulgaria. I’m going to take care of you now.”

              When I got closer to him, this small child let out the loudest scream I’ve ever heard. I panicked and tried to calm the child down. “I- I want to take care of you, not hurt you. By the way, what’s your name?”

“BROTHER!!”

Fuck. “You… you have a brother.” Just when I said that I felt a sharp pain in my left shoulder. The force of whatever hit me, caused me to fall face first into the snow. I spat out snow and got on my knees. I looked over my shoulder, there were the feathers of an arrow sticking out of my shoulder. Whoever shot that has one hell of an arm because I feel the arrowhead in my lung. Oh well, I’m immortal.

           “Move away from my brother.” Demand the archer.

           The brunette ran to his brother and hide behind his leg. I stood up and faced my assailant. The archer was standing only two feet behind me. That’s why the arrow is as deep as it is, he shot at close range. The archer was three years older than the small child. He had long curly, orange hair, which covered his right eye. The visible eye is brown like his brother’s. How can this preteen be Dacia’s heir? He doesn’t even look like the locals; he looks like a Celt.

           The archer glared at me. “Now get off my turf.” He put his bow over his shoulder and made a gestured in my direction. A tree beside me busted into flame, falling to ashes within seconds.

           “What, how?! It’s winter! You can’t use your magic!” This is why I come in the winter. Fire Mages need a heat source to generate their flames. “There’s no heat source!”

           The archer smirked. “Really,” he laughed. “You realize you are a walking heat source, right? Also just because there’s snow on the ground, doesn’t mean the earth isn’t warm. Also, I will use myself as a source if I need to.”

           I scolded myself for being so naïve. I’m not a Mage so I wasn’t taught the rules of magic by the council only that it wasn't for me. I told the ‘rules’ by people who had just as much of an understanding of magic as I did, and I was stupid enough to believe them. I went to face a Mage, the strongest group in my race, believing it would be a piece of cake.

           Okay, how am I going to get him to come with me? I looked him over again. They looked thin for their age. That gives me an idea “I’m not here to fight you, I’ve come to take you home.”

           “I am home.” He said. He picked up some of the tree ashes and throw it in my face. “I told you to get off my turf. You didn’t hear very well, do you? Leave or I'll turn you into ash.”

           Think fast Bulgaria. “Wait! You're your brother's caretaker, correct. I’m offering you on the chance to give him a better life than this. In these woods, you're living worse than serfs. Under my rule, you and your brother will be treated like nobles.  You, Mr. Archer, can study to become the strongest mage in all Christendom.”

Good job, you're not a complete idiot after all.

“My name is Valentin.” The archer’s voice broke me from my internal argument. I stared at him like an idiot, which resulted in that little voice in my head to sculled me. Why do I have to share my brain with my worst critic? He smiled at his brother, who he had picked while I was distracted. “For Radu’s sake, I’ll expect your offer. However, deceive me at any time and I’ll shove a torch up your ass, understand?”

            Radu must be his brother name. “I won’t deceive you I promise. I’m Bulgaria, by the way.”

Interesting AU. However, I have a question. How does magic work in this AU? Do the spirits of the magic trio, plus Belarus, Egypt and Japan, like their hosts enough to give them access to those abilities or does it come from the original soul?

The Nations are Parasites?: A Hetalia AU

Ever since I got into the fandom about five years ago, I’ve constantly thought about what exactly the nations are. I’ve come up with a couple different AUs on how to definitively answer that question, several of which (like this one), I’ve taken quite a lot of creative liberties with.

Basically, the “countries” are actually genderless spirits of a nation that actively seek out and attach themselves to human hosts, which are citizens of the nation that spirit represents. Once a host is selected and the spirit is attached, the body is home to two different personalities: the one of the original host (i.e. Francis, Kiku, Gilbert), and the one of the spirit (France, Japan, Prussia). These personalities communicate to each other inside their head and can often switch position as the ‘dominate’ personality for that body. Ling/Greed from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Oscar/Ozpin/Ozma from RWBY are great examples of how this AU would play out. I have several headcanons for how this AU would work, which I’ll list below (beware, there are a lot of them!):
