Hosea and Dutch have massively different goals when it comes to being leaders of this gang and it mirrors the way they interact with the gang.

Dutch wants to be worshipped, he wants to be needed and he wants to be looked up to. For him it isn't as much about helping people as it is about gaining a group who will listen to his every word and satify his desires. For him being a leader is self-forfilling, he is doing it for himself.

Hosea wants to help people. He used to be a violent man but learned with time and loss that people were worth more, even those whom he had put a bullet in. He is at the end of his life and he wants to make sure the people he loves are safe and will remain safe after he is in the ground. For him being a leader is about helping those he can and those he loves.

Dutch raises himself above the others in the gang, he has a better room, better clothing, he doesn't need to indulge in chores, his girl doesn't need to work. He is distancing himself from the others, putting himself on this podium where he is above them. While Abigail is worrying if her child will starve, he is worrying about philosophy.

You won't see him being casually social in camp, when he is talking to people there is often a purpose more than just chatter. Sometimes it is to make himself sound smart by talking philosophy or other times it is to step up as this messiah and lead them. Often times he can be seen alone, either someplace where he can see the others or they can see him.

Hosea is down on the ground, literally. He sleeps in a tent outside next to the others, he is running small jobs and small gig. He provides the gang with food and the does his part of the chores. He includes himself into the gang instead of rising above him which he could have the right to should he want.

He is also a more socialable person. Sure, he will step up to the role of a leader should it be needed, whether it is for advice or disipin, but you can also find him sitting by the camp fire talking about his past, both the ups and down, or you can play dominos with him, passing time.

You can also find him in the middle of camp normally, sitting by the dinner table, on a chair by the tent or just taking a stroll.

On a smaller note I noticed that the people who sided with Dutch were never people in need of the father figure Hosea presented to a lot of the others. They had had a family biologically and didn't a new one, they seeked employment and a "god", not a father.

i love how when it comes to rebelcaptain and them being a thing in the beginning diego was like “i’ll let the audience decide that” then some time passed and he went “jyn and cassian would grow old together and sell fridges” and now he’s just unhinged “OBVIAMENTE!!!! there was totally something between them and it will last forever they’re 100% canon”
