This was inspired by the last chapter! Of Mel's fear of changing, of letting herself become indifferent or cruel. And the kind of sad inevitability that if she does not, as seen in the end, she'll only destroy herself quicker out of guilt and self-hatred. Not to mention that she's already (at least to me) begun the process of changing. Not by her own design for the most part (as of now). She's kind of being forced into the role of "Queen", not only by the chancellor but the force as well (with the nightmarish visions and how it leads her in certain moments-hence the butterfly. It might as well materialize and hold a gun to her head and say "fix things or else look at what will happen".) and so she has to play the game.

I've drawn and redrawn this so many times I think I'll just go with this before I hit a complete art slump. The arm's position is kind of obscured but she's holding his right arm to her heart, where the light's the brightest, while the other one is holding her waist.

Some more doodles of Melanie. Mel in an outfit inspired by Ahsoka, as well as Misato from Evangelion. I also played on Mel's private vs public reality, because I love how her actions are often misinterpreted. She could genuinly be considering the meaning of life and Five, with a knowing look, will just think 'ah, that look, she must be thinking about the General.' Though I also think she has potential to appear intimidating to others, especially when she's sleep deprived, tired of everything, and with her habit of zoning out. I know I've been told I have a resting bitch face for similar reasons. Of course others would have *other* reactions (btw just to say, rereading that bit with Sugi always gets me because she was really ready to risk it all).

Art based on Melanie's dreams/visions. I think that despite her repeated failures at first, something can be said about Melanie at least trying to help-contrarily to the utter betrayal that would have occured if she had not been there. Haha, I wonder if she'll interact more with the younglings, and how it'll go? I also incorporated some elements of the new dream, but you can tell there's not as much symbolism/story baked into it. I've also inserted quotes from her dream sequences to kind of reflect her current mentality: a burgeoning hope that is starting to emerge from her once previous overwhelming fear-but she's still filled with hesitation and confused as to her purpose (and her dreams). I think once she does figure it out, she'll be able to take a more proactive stance instead of the reactive corner she's been forced into. But then again this is all speculation.

Another random doodle of Melanie and her emotional support Tedkin Cloudwalker, to get her through the nightmares. Unfortunatly, Melanie has developped a bad habit of trying to fix broken things, and she couldn't help but take it home because it reminded her of 'someone'. Even more unfortunate, I fear Tedkins has way more game than Anakin ever will.

Obi-wan, Fives and Echo: Sure, Melanie, sure ...

Anakin in the future: Ah yes. Me. My girlfriend. And her ratty cheap stuffed doll imitation of me. No, I'm not jealous. I've never heard of the word.

More quick doodles. Melanie and Ahsoka having fun and joking around dressed as Anakin and Obi-wan (the clothes were obviously stolen, or maybe just left behind). Melanie's laughed her ass off after she realized that she's technically in cosplay. Meanwhile Ahsoka is 100% making fun of Obi-wan in the picture. And I imagine them just having a ton of fun in the robes playing pretend. Todo sounded like Toto, and I immediatly made parallels with the Wizard of Oz: a young american girl being whisked away to a magical land and she desperatly wants to go home (although I didn't have space here, Palpatine is 100% the evil wizard and I was also going to draw Yoda as a little fairy witch). Anakin's obviously the tin man (seemingly) without a heart, incased in metal, and in the story he also slices 100 wolves into pieces, so he's also a terrifying character.

Here's some more art, entirely inspired by art of Star Wars fashion that I saw on pinterest. Originally, the looks were supposed to be really extra and alien, but Melanie isn't royalty or anything (at most she'd dress up for events) and she strikes me as the type to value comfort and ease, so I kept her looks quite simple.

I was working on 1 piece of art, but then I got side-tracked and began doodling Melanie in outfits inspired by Leia's looks and then Florence Pughs'. I finished those before the main piece. I'm not used to drawing semi-realistically or digitally but I tried.
