CoPilot in MS Word
I opened Word yesterday to discover that it now contains CoPilot. It follows you as you type and if you have a personal Microsoft 365 account, you can't turn it off. You will be given 60 AI credits per month and you can't opt out of it.
The only way to banish it is to revert to an earlier version of Office. There is lot of conflicting information and overly complex guides out there, so I thought I'd share the simplest way I found.
How to revert back to an old version of Office that does not have CoPilot
This is fairly simple, thankfully, presuming everything is in the default locations. If not you'll need to adjust the below for where you have things saved.
Click the Windows Button and S to bring up the search box, then type cmd. It will bring up the command prompt as an option. Run it as an administrator.
Paste this into the box at the cursor: cd "\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun"
Hit Enter
Then paste this into the box at the cursor: officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17726.20160
Hit enter and wait while it downloads and installs.
VERY IMPORTANT. Once it's done, open Word, go to File, Account (bottom left), and you'll see a box on the right that says Microsoft 365 updates. Click the box and change the drop down to Disable Updates.
This will roll you back to build 17726.20160, from July 2024, which does not have CoPilot, and prevent it from being installed.
If you want a different build, you can see them all listed here. You will need to change the 17726.20160 at step 4 to whatever build number you want.
This is not a perfect fix, because while it removes CoPilot, it also stops you receiving security updates and bug fixes.
Switching from Office to LibreOffice
At this point, I'm giving up on Microsoft Office/Word. After trying a few different options, I've switched to LibreOffice.
You can download it here for free: https://www.libreoffice.org/
If you like the look of Word, these tutorials show you how to get that look:
www.howtogeek.com/788591/how-to-make-libreoffice-look-like-microsoft-office/
www.debugpoint.com/libreoffice-like-microsoft-office/
If you've been using Word for awhile, chances are you have a significant custom dictionary. You can add it to LibreOffice following these steps.
First, get your dictionary from Microsoft
Go to Manage your Microsoft 365 account: account.microsoft.com.
One you're logged in, scroll down to Privacy, click it and go to the Privacy dashboard.
Scroll down to Spelling and Text. Click into it and scroll past all the words to download your custom dictionary. It will save it as a CSV file.
Open the file you just downloaded and copy the words.
Open Notepad and paste in the words. Save it as a text file and give it a meaningful name (I went with FromWord).
Next, add it to LibreOffice
Open LibreOffice.
Go to Tools in the menu bar, then Options. It will open a new window.
Find Languages and Locales in the left menu, click it, then click on Writing aids.
You'll see User-defined dictionaries. Click New to the right of the box and give it a meaningful name (mine is FromWord).
Hit Apply, then Okay, then exit LibreOffice.
Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4\user\wordbook and you will see the new dictionary you created. (If you can't see the AppData folder, you will need to show hidden files by ticking the box in the View menu.)
Open it in Notepad by right clicking and choosing 'open with', then pick Notepad from the options.
Open the text file you created at step 5 in 'get your dictionary from Microsoft', copy the words and paste them into your new custom dictionary UNDER the dotted line.
Save and close.
Reopen LibreOffice. Go to Tools, Options, Languages and Locales, Writing aids and make sure the box next to the new dictionary is ticked.
If you use LIbreOffice on multiple machines, you'll need to do this for each machine.
Please note: this worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, check you've followed each step correctly, and try restarting your computer. If it still doesn't work, I can't provide tech support (sorry).

Yes I grabbed shitty Content farm orens from dozens of thumbnails. I want you all to know that I used so many that Waifu2x and Remove. bg straight up refused to process anything for me by the end
I used this to illustrate just how dire the content farm situation is for Sprunki

hey you 🫵 do you want to grow appreciation for japanese media that you wouldn't know otherwise and grow a more diverse taste to all the weird art that exists in the world?
i have a few recommendations for you!
i've been dying to recommend some youtube channels that i really love but never have the chance to bring up, but i think they have interesting things to say about japanese media!
Hazel makes video essays about anime and other media, i'm currently very entertained by her videos about obscure OVAs and old playstation 2 games. very fun stuff!
youtube
Amelie Doree (though i'm not sure if she goes by that or Noelle which is what she uses on her patreon) makes videos essays on (mainly eroge) japanese visual novels, from very famous and genre-defining ones, to extremely niche and often completely untranslated and undiscussed in the west ones! her videos are incredibly interesting and have given me a whole new appreciation for the visual novel genre of which i wasn't familiar with before
a good video of hers to start is "Why a Forgotten Visual Novel is the Best Trans Story I've Read' it talks about sexual topics but i think its clean enough to leave its good first impression regardless of how you feel about the medium
youtube
RickiHirsch (i believe she goes by Ricki) makes videos about a variety of subjects but often including also japanese games, anime and manga. one of my favorite and first video of hers i saw was "Queer Horror: Understanding Gender as Body Horror"
youtube
and lastly, i want to prove my point by recommending a modern anime i myself have watched completely on my own that i really enjoyed and think others would like!
have a totally legal link to My Senpai is An Otokonoko
this anime is from 2024 and i stumbled on it completely by accident. i was scared off a bit by the title (otokonoko being the common japanese term to describe a crossdressing man) but i was kinda pleasantly surprised by the softness and sincerity in which this show aproaches its topics.
its a romance/slice of life/drama show and its melodramatic and sugary sweet but a genuinely wholesome experience. the main character is extremely transfem coded (if you can even call it that? its in the text) and the show doesn't mock or demonize her for it and fully focuses on her perspective and feelings the whole time (and doesnt in any way deny a trans reading), and also its the first romance story probably ever where i've seen a character realize they're actually aromantic as a conclusion to their arc. its cute its sweet and if you watch the first episode and think thats for you then all 12 episodes will go by flying and you will cry. because i did

do it for her ^^^

One thing I will say that is really annoying about doing this researching videos and make it cute dictionary of terms and definitions that sound like I'm having a stroke to every other person who goes outside and explaining Chungospeak is exhausting

Note
I, as a grown, gay person of color do not like Hashbrown Motel because I'm someone who goes outside and is not 14 years old and wants an alternative South Park.
One of my favorite YouTubers used to be friends with someone who worked on the show, my main source for some information has dealt with a lot of Hashbrown stuff in real life which has been a very nice input that most other people can't get.
When it comes to why Hashbrown is bad, please do your own research, I'm not google.
Is Hazbin bad
You can go look this up for yourself, I'm not opening the can of worms because I don't want to line in it.

how much do you know about sexypedia (tumblr sexyman wiki) + its discord servers?
The sexypedia is something I need to do some research on for a bit now but to my knowledge it's been deleted? I need to find an archive or talk to the person who originally created it but I had no idea about the Discord

What youtubers do you watch?
Whang, Scumbagovich, Izzyzzz, Jenny Nicholson, Quinton Reviews, Mahimeghan, Geno Samuel*, Mung, FurbieDani, Athena P, Brutalmoose and many, many others.
*= I don't support the stocking of Geno's usual subject matter but when I first started involving myself with researching fandom history she kept coming up so I realized I'd have to learn about her situation because she's kind of a reoccurring character and for some other situations I desperately needed to find an unbiased source.

Thoughts on lolcows?
A lot of people who are neurodivergent support other mentally ill people until its the chance to hop on making someone a "lolcow" the moment they don't get a social cue or act outside the "normal fucked up" range its fine to treat them like a circus animal and make them infinitely worse and profit off their suffering.
Their crimes, ranging from being a bit annoying like that one Pinkie Pie cosplayer who just happened to be fat, children being children (Iki Koi Todoroki) to people who need genuine help and can never adjust to society because of their digital footprint like the dozens people constantly cover to the more famous ones who are encouraged to get worse.
In my script I avoid dropping a bunch of names in rapid succession, but lolcow culture, tumblr callout culture and the weird drama culture of turning everything into a joke or joking about a serious issue like Dan Schneider just lessens the actual seriousness of the situation.
Last year a very dangerous predator in the UK was made very popular and the situation where someone was editing photos of children like deep fried memes was turned into such a huge joke the victims felt like they couldn't say anything.
If you have constant eyes on you hoping begging and praying for you to fuck up you're going to fuck up by the lowest of standards that someone is going to lose their shit. The constant surveillance and stalking along with ruining someone's life isn't worth a cheap laugh.
