The plastic connector and the metal key ring is just as added bonus. Its mainly a preference.
Traditional tamagotchis come with the ball and chain which is why I opted to match. But, if it's attached to something that moves A LOT, I recommend switching to the plastic bit with the key ring to make it lot harder for it to be yanked off if it somehow gets snagged on something.
There is also some ways to optimise your load out for a little extra shaking!
